EYE OF THE TIGER SIGN

EYE OF THE TIGER SIGN

■ PKAN (Pantothenate kinase-associated neurodegeneration) Hallervorden-Spatz syndrome

■ The "eye" corresponds to the low signal globus pallidus with the central focus of high signal. The low signal is secondary to the iron deposition.

BULL’S EYE SIGN

BULL’S EYE SIGN

Intussusception Alternating hypoechoic &

hyperechoic concentric rings gives the 'Bull's eye' or target appearance on ultrasound examination.

Submucosa forms hypoechoic ring and mucosa and muscularis propria form echoic rings

RA’S EYE SIGN

RA’S EYE SIGN

■ Sprengel Shoulder ■ On MRI in the sagittal plane,

the appearance of the omovertebral band, in association with the peripheral fat tissue, has been termed the 'Ra's eye' sign

SNAKE EYE SIGN

Page 10: Eye signs in radiology

SNAKE EYE SIGN

■ Snake eyes appearance has been described in disorders like compressive myelopathy, ALS, cervical spondylotic amyotrophy, Hirayama disease, and ossification of posterior longitudinal ligament

■ On axials, the gray matter is seen to be oedematous and hyperintense, giving the 'snake eyes' sign.

SNAKE EYE’S SIGN The facial nerve on coronal CT

Posterior to the genu of the facial nerve, the tympanic and labyrinthine segments are seen as two 'dots' which look like eyes of a snake

FROG EYE SIGN

Page 13: Eye signs in radiology

FROG EYE SIGN

■ Anencephaly on ultrasound■ On coronal ultrasound, the

absence of the calvaria coupled with prominent orbits gives the fetus the 'frog eye' sign

HARLEQUIN EYE SIGN

Page 15: Eye signs in radiology

HARLEQUIN EYE SIGN

■ The harlequin eye deformity may be seen in unilateral or bilateral coronal suture synostosis, and refers to the elevation of the superolateral corner of the orbit.

BLACK EYEBROW SIGN

Page 17: Eye signs in radiology

BLACK EYEBROW SIGN

■ This 'black eye brow' sign signifies an orbital floor or medial wall fracture

■ On plain facial radiograph, lucent intra-orbital air gives the appearance of a black eye brow.

WINKING OWL SIGN

Page 19: Eye signs in radiology

WINKING OWL SIGN■ The absent pedicle represents

the 'winking eye'. ■ The right pedicle is the open

eye and the spinous process represents the beak of an owl

■ Destroyed pedicle- spinal metastases, tuberculosis and other infections, primary bone lesions like lymphoma

■ Congenital absence/hypoplasia of a pedicle

■ Neurofibromatosis■ Radiation therapy
