DECEMBER FEATURED ARTISTS:

Cindy Howson & Pam Woodhouse

“I want to thank everyone who displayed at the Palace Theater

during my 4+ years of encouraging and coordinating the Art

hangings. I truly enjoyed "having ladder will travel". Sadly

the Palace has decided to use the wall space to advertise their

up and coming shows, as well as photos of past entertainers.

It has been our pleasure, as well as theirs, to have participated

all these years in beautiful art displays.

Thank you for being part of my joy!” ♥ Billie Faye B.

LETTER FROM YOUR PRESIDENT: Dear Members,

I know we are all looking forward to the Holidays and, for

some of us, warmer climates. I hope you have a very Merry

Christmas, a Happy Hanukkah & a Happy New Year. Keep

up the great work with the Art Guild next year. Linda Carr, President

VP - MEMBER SERVICES: Nina H.& Susan S. ► 2019 MEMBER SVC END OF YEAR THOUGHTS Actually I want to reflect on the last two years as VP and

Coordinator for Member Services. My first thoughts that have

been the highlights of this time has been meeting all the new

members getting to know them through our orientation process.

Seeing so many “newbies” join our organization and then

become involved in the committees of choice has been such an

encouragement to me. To be a part of the growth and forward

thinking we have become is outstanding.

My goal has been to improve on anything in this committee that

will assist our new members to learn, teach and inspire in their

membership and community relationship with The Art Guild.

It has also been my pleasure to work with a board of members

that took my suggestions seriously and always gave good advice

in the organizations ability to accomplish my goals. Finishing

our beautiful kitchen has been a joy to me. Working with the

board and John Michael has been beyond my expectations.

Now the last but not at all the least, is my love and appreciation

for all the Volunteers that have stepped up and made receptions

and Fun Friday memorable! Michalanne Sloan deserves gold

stars for our “Fun Fridays”, she has my undying devotion.

Then along came Susan Smathers at a time that my life was

difficult. She stepped right in and began as the Co-coordinator

for Member Services doing orientations helping to keep our new

members happy. Thank you is hardly sufficient but my heartfelt

appreciation is for her.

Now it is time for me to step back and regroup my life and my

goals as a member. I will be in and out serving wherever I can.

Wishing each of you Happiness in the New Year

♥ Love to all, Nina Hardison ( Ninabelle)

OUTREACH COORDINATORS:Cindy,Pam,Bil lie ► 2019 CHILDREN’S OUTREACH: Cindy H. ♦ We were able to get the Cumberland Mountain Boys School

classes up and running in 2019. We started classes in February

and continued through May 2019. We have started the 2019 –

2020 school year with the boys with scheduled days now

♦ Our Home Schooled children grew by leaps and bounds. We

had 28 students enrolled with an average of 22 students each

month.

♦ We had a new outreach this year. Thanks to Beverly Olin we

had a HIGH SCHOOL DAY AT THE ARTGUILD. We had 16

selected high school students participate in 3 classes. Drawing,

Jewelry and Alcohol Ink. We hope to have this option again in

2020.

♦ Summer Outreach was a great success with 15 -18 children at

each class. We had a better handle on the signup with a two

week advance program. Teachers could plan better this way.

♦ We were proud to award Bridget Graessle, a senior at CCHS,

a $1000 scholarship to Tennessee Tech. Bridget will be a great

student in the field of Art.

♦ Community Enrichment Committee of the FFG Community

Church donated to our Children’s outreach and VEC sent Grant

money for the Children’s Outreach. Thank you John Anderson

and Susan Midelton.

2020 CHILDREN’S OUTREACH: Rosemary Wawro ♦ Children’s Outreach is looking for people willing to teach a

course to our Cumberland Mountain School Boys. They meet on

the 4th

Tuesday from 12:30-2:00 p.m. during the school year at

the PCAC. Only one of last year’s boys returned with classmates

at our October class. The other six boys were new, so if you

taught last year, the same lesson may be repeated. We are

expecting the group to expand to 11-12 students beginning in

January. Encar Jovellar taught the boys basic stained glass in

their last lesson. Topics that may interest the boys include: leather craft,

woodworking, string art, rustic wall art, dragon art, sports décor,

printmaking (we have brayers), and denim pocket art as well as

basic drawing skills, acrylics, watercolor, and colored pencil art.

We are also open to any other ideas you may have which are not

listed above.

The classes are 90 minutes long, but we have large pizza boxes

in which the boys can store their unfinished projects if you need

two classes to finish. The boys arrive at the PCAC with one teacher and one staff

member, and some Outreach Committee members will also be

present to help. Thank you for considering helping to interest these young men

in Art.

2019 SENIOR ADULT OUTREACH: Pam W. ♦ What an amazing year we had at the Fair Park Senior Center

in 2019. We offered 7 different classes and had a total of 88

participants. Thanks to all of our teachers, Vera Bogle, Sharon

Gruenhagen, Cindy Howson, Debbie Kersh, Jeani Miller and

Barbara Pelak. Your class evaluations were excellent, and the

participants, empowered.

All seniors (55 and older) in Cumberland County are invited to

enjoy this unique program. Classes are held monthly

(approximately) at the Fair Park Senior Center located at 1433

Livingston Road. Call 931-484-7416 to reserve your spot. Each

class meets from 1-3 PM. The charge is only $ 5.00 and that

includes class instruction, all materials and an afternoon of

laughter. ♦ It has been my pleasure serving as the coordinator, these past

two years.

2020 SENIOR ADULT OUTREACH: Patty Hargrove Please welcome Patty Hargrove, who will be leading the

committee. Patty is looking for some new instructors and new

class offerings in 2020. Please contact her and discuss your

instructional ideas.

2020 COMMUNITY OUTREACH: Billie Faye B. ♦ January starts preparations for “ART IN THE PARK”! ♦ Due to the separation from the Palace, graduating senior art

will be shown at the Art Circle Library in March & April. Then

in May, will be shown at the Guild as in previous years.

May your Christmas and New Year

be happy and healthy!

PCAC: Al H.

Welcome Paul Howson, new head of the PCAC for 2020.

PCAC -- 2019 IMPROVEMENTS & HIGHLIGHTS ♦ Additional and improved LED lighting for our Gallery.

♦ Conversion of all overhead Studio lighting to LED.

♦ New carpets now are at the Entry and Host Desk; all other

carpets were cleaned.

♦ A major infestation of an invasive foreign plant was weeded

from the Sculpture Trail in a timely and intensive 3-day project.

♦ A Sculpture Trail addition is approved and under construction

Coordinator Myra Tatarowicz and Jean Liberty are working on

this special project. Sketch of the sculpture is located on the

studio bulletin board. ♦ Jewelry display cabinets were changed, one moved to the

Entry area; we moved the Host Desk.

♦ On the Grounds, Howard Robb has finished a much needed

grass renovation project. Rocks added each side of the Entry.

♦ Our Kitchen cabinet and counter expansion are complete. The

stove was eliminated and the utility sink was moved from the

Kitchen into the Storage room.

♦ “ARTiE” added to the Studio, that beautiful big screen with

two cameras; training is ongoing -- watch for classes!

♦ There have been numerous computer upgrades/additions for

The Guild.

♦ We made a major cleanup of the basement. Bulletin Boards

were changed. Screens were added to hide A/C floor filters. Major appreciation goes to you who were responsible for these

improvements, with special acknowledgement to Howard Robb

and John Michael! Thank you from aaalllll of us! - Al H.

WELCOME “ARTiE”: John H. Welcome to “ARTiE”,

Your Classroom Assistant ARTiE, short for ART

In Electronics, is an electronic whiteboard that provides many

tools to enhance teaching, learning, and presentations at the Art

Guild. What can ARTiE do for you right now?

Offer a 65" viewing screen and great viewing without

distortion up to about 130 degrees!

Reproduce colors and images crisply and true!

Access two system cameras, one or both at a time, to be

sure you get just the right detail at the right time.

Extreme close-ups? No problem. Bigger than life

blowups? No problem.

Stand or sit to teach while your students see everything

you are demonstrating in the correct orientation, and

you can be looking at your class!

What else can ARTiE do?

Once you are comfortable with ARTiE's basics, we will teach

you how to use the whiteboard capabilities as a drawing tool,

save onscreen markups, use your own PowerPoint presentations,

watch videos from the internet or a DVD, record a video, hold

distance learning sessions, and so much more. The class is interactive and students are encouraged to take

ARTiE for a test drive. This means that we will need to limit

the class size to no more than 6-students.
