Fabric Hanger Covers Day Dreams 2012 These easy to make covers work up quickly so you can make an entire gift set for you or a friend in no time at all. Made to fit a standard plastic hanger they have an open bottom. The opening allows for hanging of clothes underneath and for easy removal of the cover to wash when needed. Why not make this a green project and use old apparel you were going to donate to the thrift store for these practical gifts? Materials: Scrap fabric or 1/4 yard of remnant 44”-45” Thread to match One hanger for each cover *All seams are 1/4’” unless otherwise noted. Step 1: Cut & Mark After pattern is printed, cut out carefully on heavy lines. Place pattern on fold of fabric. Cut 2 for each cover used. Mark pattern notches and stay stitching lines where indi- cated. Step 2: Top Opening Stay stitch along lines at top of covers. Clip curves in 3 places, one each near ends and one in the center close to stay stitchingbut not past. Press curve inward to wrong side of fabric. Top stitch close to finished edge. Step 3: Side Seams Matching notches and edges, place wrong sides together of covers. Sew 1/4” seams from top down, carefully sewing curve of cover. Clip curves of cover close to stitching for ease. Press. Step 4: Hem Press 1/8” in bottom of cover all the way around (hem). Turn up another 1/8” and press, pin in place. Stitch hem in place. Press cover . Slide cover over hanger by placing hook into top opening and smoothing fabric over hanger curves. Finished! Please contact me with questions : [email protected]. I’m happy to assist you ! I prefer finished seams, so I either zig-zag stitch a seam when finished or use my over- lock on the seams. If wish, you can use a small bit of light wt interfacing for the cover opening at the top. I found it’s not really necessary but some may prefer to use this as a stabilizer. This pattern adjusts nicely to smaller hangers and is perfect for wire hangers. Be creative and make patch- work covers!
