Happy Friday!! I would like to start my principal letter with a big thank you to all of our Fabyan
staff and parents that have been so dedicated with our school activities. The collaboration between school
and home is vital in building a strong foundation. Through classroom helpers, PTO functions, field trip
chaperones, and school based activities—parents are always welcomed at Fabyan.
Another important parent – teacher collaborative function that will be taking place on November 23rd and
24th is our parent-teacher conferences. These dates have been strictly set aside to continue our communication
toward your child’s progress. We are grateful that we are given these two days to provide feedback and
establish a strong parent/teacher relationship. Dorothy Rich, author, states “In this complex world, it takes
more than a good school to educate children. And it takes more than a good home. It takes these two major
educational institutions working together.” Studies have indicated that children whose parents and/or other
significant adults share in their formal education tend to do better in school. Some benefits that have been
identified that measure parental involvement in education include:
Long term academic achievement
Positive attitudes and behavior
More successful programs
Don’t forget that in addition to the classroom teacher, our music, art and PE faculty are also available for
conferences. Please note that if you are unable to attend a conference in person, you will be able to schedule
a telephone conference during those dates with the classroom teacher. Any questions, contact our Fabyan
office for answers!!!
Thank you for your commitment with education as we work together in continuing our positive school
community.
Have fun at our Fabyan FUN Fair tonight!!

News from the Health Office:
Reminder to all 5th grade Parents : Mark your calendars to attend the district’s parent preview of
the maturation presentation by Robert Crown on December 1st at Williamsburg Elementary from
7:00 pm -8:00 pm. Your students will receive a presentation by Robert Crown on January 21st.
I have received several questions about students and medications during school hours so here is a
review of the procedure for all prescription and over the counter medications :
1. The parent/guardian and Illinois health care provider will complete the School Medication Authorization Form
before the administration of any non-prescription or prescription medication at school.
2. The School Medication Authorization Form must be completed annually (annually meaning with the beginning
of each new school year) or whenever there is a change in medication and /or dosage.
3. All medications will be provided to the nurse in an original container or vial, as provided by the pharmacist,
with the prescription/dosage affixed. Upon request, the pharmacist will supply you with two properly labeled
containers, one for home use and one for use at school. Non-prescription (over-the-counter) medications must be
provided in the original container labeled with the student’s name.
4. No student may possess or consume any prescription or non-prescription medication during school hours or
school-related activities until a completed and signed School Medication Authorization Form is on file.
5. The parent/guardian is responsible for bringing medication to the school and for taking unused medication from
the school when no longer required. Medication will only be received by and/or returned to the parent/guardian
by the nurse or building administrator.
6. Upon drop off, medication is required to be counted by the nurse and/or building administrator in the presence
of the parent/guardian. The parent/guardian will be asked to sign off on the amount being supplied to the school.
7. Medication will be administered by the school nurse or under the direction of the building administrator (unless
self administration authorization is received as per Public Act 096-1460 or Public Act 096-1485).
8. NO herbal, vitamin, or mineral supplements shall be possessed or administered during school hours
I have also received several questions about returning to school after an illness. Below is the link to the
district’s policy. A student must be fever free for 24 hours (< 100 F) without the use of medication or
without diarrhea or vomiting for 24 hours before returning to school.

SISTER SCHOOL Please consider “Spreading the Warmth” with Our Sister School. With the
cold weather approaching all of us are preparing to make sure our kids are
warm and safe this winter with the right gear. However, for many families
winter items are difficult to afford. This is sadly the case for some students at
our sister school, E.M. Rollins Elementary.
Our committee has decided we would like to help these families in need; therefore, we will be holding a
drive to collect items to bring to these children. We will be collecting new winter hats, gloves, mittens,
scarves, and socks for both boys and girls. Items donated can be brought to the school office or sent via
your child’s backpack by November 24th. There will also be a bin set out during parent/teacher confer-
ences should it be more convenient for you to bring it then. If you have any questions you can contact
Melissa Hostasa at [email protected]. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
BOOK FAIR The book fair was a great success! We made profits of over $2,500. All back
orders and preorders have been delivered; if anyone is still missing an or-
dered book, please email Amy Romero at [email protected]. Thank you!
