Bag handles

1.Taking a 1.5cm seam allowance fold the bag handles in half lengthways and stitch together. Press seam open.

2. Trim down seam allowance and turn through to the right side.

3. Centre the seam.

4. Turn over and edge stitch along both sides of each handle.

5. Fold the main bag in half lengthways and notch the centre of both the short edges.

6. Turn fabric to the right side. And finish the edges with a zig zag.

7. Measure and mark with a pin 10cm either side of the centre notch.

8. With right sides together pin and stitch the handles on the outside of 10cm mark. NB handle seam to outside.

9. Repeat for the other side.

Sides and bottom

1.With right sides together fold the bag in half and pin and stitch the side seams together taking a 1.5cm seam allowance.

2. Press seams open.

3. At the base of the bag push out into a triangle. Measure 8.5cm from each side to the seam and 8.5cm from the point.

4. Pin to hold into place, draw a chalk line between the points as a stitching guide.

5. Making sure the seam is flat and open, stitch along the chalk line.

6. Repeat for the other side.

Facing

1. With right sides together pin and stitch the short edges of the facing together, taking a 1.5cm seam allowance.

2. Press seams open and zig zag the seam edges.

3. Taking a 1cm allowance each time turn over one edge twice and top stitch into place.

4. With right sides together and the finished edge towards the bottom, pin facing to the top of the bag. Matching up all the side seams and keeping them flat and open.

Taking a 1.5cm seam allowance stitch into place.

5. Press the facing seam up away from the bag and toward the facing.

6. Under stitch around the facing seam. Stitching very close to the seam through the facing seam allowances only, not through to the right side of the garment.

7. Turn the bag inside out and secure facing to the side seams with a cross stitch.
