Dr. Quest, President of the Faculty Council, called the meeting to order at 12:04 PM
II. REVIEW AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES Dale Quest, Ph.D. - Faculty Council President
Having met quorum, the Faculty Council members unanimously agreed to approve the meeting minutes from June 15, 2015 with no changes.
III. OLD BUSINESS A. Academic Council Seat E-Vote

Dr. Quest reported the following: New Academic Council Representative:
- Dr. Quest introduced and congratulated Dr. Jesus Peinado, Assistant Professor for the Department of

Pediatrics as the newly elected representative for the Academic Council. Dr. Peinado joins Dr. Quest, Dr. Figueroa-Casas, Dr. Watts, and Dr. Maiyegun on the Academic Council. The next meeting is scheduled for July 20, 2015.
IV. NEW BUSINESS A. Faculty Council President-Elect

Dr. Quest Reported the Following:
Faculty Council President-Elect Elections - Dr. Quest reminded the Faculty Council that voting will take place by E-vote for President-Elect. A handout
was provided to the representatives that contained the personal statements of the three candidates: o Laxman Gangwani, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Biomedical Sciences o Heidi Lyn, M.D., Assistant Professor, OB/GYN o Jennifer Molokwu, M.D., M.P.H., Assistant Professor, Family and Community Medicine
- Representatives have until July 31st to cast their vote by email. The new President-Elect will be inducted into office at the August Faculty Council meeting.
V. DEAN’S REPORT Richard A. Lange, M.D. President, TTUHSC El Paso, Dean, PLFSOM
Dr. Lange reported the following: Current Searches: There are several ongoing searches that Dr. Lange wanted to make sure everyone was aware of. They are interviewing the final two candidates for the Institutional Compliance Officer. Both candidates are excellent. They are also in the process of a search for a CFO. Frank Stout up until now has been both the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and the Chief Operating Officer (COO). Dr. Lange has now separated those two positions. Frank Stout remains the Chief Operating Officer. There is also a search for the Department Chair for the Department of Emergency Medicine. The Department of Psychiatry has a new chair that is now on campus, Dr. Vivek Singh. There will be some receptions for him over the next few weeks for faculty to meet him. Dr. Ho’s Retirement: Dr. Hoi Ho will be retiring as of September 1, 2015. Dr. Ho and his wife plan to return to Vietnam after retiring. Dr. Lange has requested that Dr. Ho stay onboard on a part time basis to help with the current Tenure and/or Promotion cycle and to continue to chair CFAPTA through the end of the year. Dr. Lange plans to appoint an interim Dean of Faculty Affairs and Development, and then later recruit externally. Dr. Ho’s many jobs will be assigned to faculty on campus for now. Hospital Updates: UMC was placed on preliminary denial of accreditation due to a citation received in their sanitation department. They are moving swiftly to correct the issue. El Paso Children’s Hospital still remains in bankruptcy, and will have its hearing in October 2015. They are

DEAN’s REPORT continued… Richard A. Lange, M.D. President, TTUHSC El Paso, Dean, PLFSOM
developing a plan to repay all their debt. The West Side Hospital is currently in under construction. The plan is to have it open by 2017. The medical office building will be open by about December 2016. Dr. Lange will go into more details about faculty recruiting, GME, and hospital plans at the General Faculty Meeting.

A. General Faculty Meeting - There will be a General Faculty meeting, tomorrow, Tuesday, July 21, 2015 from 12:00-1:00 P.M. in the
AEC 2nd Floor Misenhimer Auditorium. All faculty are strongly encouraged to attend.

CEPC Update: Major actions since last report
• Development and approval of new PLFSOM institutional learning objectives (implemented for AY2015-16). See:

• Development of reporting and evaluation systems for clerkship site comparability data – Contributed to a successful report to the LCME in
April (demonstrating fulfillment of LCME standard ED-8 regarding site comparability)
CEPC Update: Major actions since last report
• Review and approval of revised MS1-2 and MS3-4 curriculum calendars and course credit structure – Shortens the MS1-2 curriculum calendar without
substantial loss of course content, allowing an earlier start to the clerkship phase, increased opportunities for remediation, scholarship and/or away electives prior to submitting applications for residency
• Review and approval of major curricular revisions involving: – Creation of a “Pre-Clerkship Prep Course” at the end of the
MS2 year, to include ACLS, ‘Tankside Grand Rounds’, the end of year OSCE and preparation for Step 1
– Creation of two MS3 clerkship “Intersessions” – Creation of a required MS4 “Boot Camp”

CEPC Update: Upcoming challenges
• Representatives drawn from the CEPC will be participating in a PLFSOM UME Task Force and strategic planning retreat
• 5-7 year timeline with vision and plan for: – Maintaining and enhancing student outcomes
– Meeting LCME standards, maintenance of accreditation
– Building capacity to increase entering class size to 150
– Evolving as a future-oriented educational program (anticipating innovations in medical education and health care)

CEPC Update: Upcoming challenges
• The LCME is coming!
– AY2015-16: PLFSOM ‘index year’ (data collection – its more complicated than you’d think)
– Self-study: formal and broad institutional engagement in this process beginning early this winter
– LCME survey team visit: earliest possible scheduling is August 2017, most likely scheduling is later in the Fall of 2017
