NQF: Level 7 Duration: 6 Months Mode of Delivery: Contact/DistanceThe purpose of the short course is to strengthen the quality of standards in schools and education departments by implementing two SAQA Unit standerds namely Conduct outcomes-based assessment as well as Design and develop Outcomes Based assessment.

Conduct Moderation Within Outcome Base Assessment

NQF: Level 6 Duration: 6 Months Mode of Delivery: Contact/DistanceThe content and quality of the training material have been compiled in such a manner that assessors, who have completed this course, can apply the newly acquired knowledge and skills directly to the verification of Assessment which includes continuous, internal and external moderation.

Elementary Course in Environmental Education

NQF: Level 6 Duration: 6 Monthes Mode of Delivery: Contact/DistanceThe purpose of this module is to train teachers in the academic discourse as well as the English second language teaching methodology required for teaching and learning subject content through medium of a second language. By showing teachers how to integrate second language acquisition methodology in their subject methodology, the teacher will be able to integrate language teaching in their subject classes thereby optimising learning through medium of a second language

The objective of this short learning programme is to equip and empower teachers and subject advisors with additional content knowledge, historical skills and teaching and learning strategies for history education. The aim is to effectively and more creatively imple-ment the requirements of the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) for History within Social Sciences.

Learner Support: Inclusive Education - A Policy Persepective

NQF: Level 6 Duration: 6 Months Mode of Delivery: Contact/DistanceThis course provides an overview of the policy on inclusive education, with specific reference to an inclusive support structure, the role of the parents and the community in supporting learners experiencing barriers to learning and development, inclusive classroom prac-tices and procedures, curriculum support, and the screening, identification and assessment procedures.

Short Course on Geography Map work

NQF: Level 5 Durations: 3 Days Mode of Delivery: Contact/DistanceThe learning program is designed to pay attention to subject knowledge, map reading, aerial photography and interpretation skills, as well as teaching methods that can be used to teach map work skills and interpretation in the geography class.

Short Course on Geography Information Systems: Map work and Aerial Photography

NQF: Level 5 Duration: 3 Days Mode of Delivery: Contact/DistanceThe purpose of this short course in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is to support and build capacity for teachers to teach GIS. This application has been included in the Further Education and Training phase (Grade 10 to 12) of the geography curriculum and forms part of a separate examination paper in mapwork interpretation of the Grade 12 examination.

Applied Learner Support

NQF: Level 8 Duration: 12 Months Mode of Delivery: Contact/DistanceThis short course will equip the student with a broad knowledge and understanding of the diverse learning needs (barriers to learn-ing) in a variety of contexts (school, classroom, home, community) which may require learning support and the application thereof in terms of learning, emotions, social and contextual support. The students will be equipped with knowledge and skills to analyse and critically evaluate the various learning support approaches and techniques regarding learners’ diverse needs in a variety of contexts.

Short Course on Life Orientation in Sexual Reproductive Health

NQF: Level 5 Duration: 2 Days Mode of Delivery: Contact DistanceShort course on level 5 is developed to enhance the knowledge of teachers and to improve their skills in the support of learners who experience problems concerning sexual reproductive health in schools and communities.Short course on writing history essays and the interpretation of historical sources

NQF: Level 6 Duration: 1 Day Mode of Delivery: Contact/DistanceThis learning programme is design for practising history teachers in the Further Education and Training (FET) Phase. The outcome of this course will equip and empower them with practical skills on how to write a good history essay and to interpret different pri-mary and secondary historical sources. Essay writing and the interpretation of sources form an integral part of the FET examination instructions and therefore this learning programme will support teachers to implement the requirements set by the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) on essay writing and the interpretation of sources.

Facilitating Environmental Programmes

NQF: Level 6 Duration: 5 Days Mode of Delivery: Contact/DistanceThis course will enable participants to plan and prepare for effective facilitation of their environmental learning programmes. It will help them to select appropriate facilitation methods, design their facilitation process and plan how to evaluate their facilitation practice. This program will enhance the professional development of participants and enrich the educational quality of their environmental work by helping them in attempting to understand the foundational nature of environmental education and how to facilitate envi-ronmental learning programmes using appropriate methods and techniques within their workplace context. These will address local environmental issues.

School Leadership and Management

NQF: Level 6 Duration: 5 Days Mode of Delivery: Blended (online, contact, distance)The purpose of this short learning programme is to empower/enable the students within this programme to develop the skills, knowl-edge, and values needed to manage and lead schools effectively and to contribute to improving the delivery of education across the school system taking into account the diversity of school types and contexts.

A practice-based short course in art for Foundation Phase Life Skills in-service teachers

NQF: Level 5 Duration: 8 Weeks Mode of Delivery: Contact/DistanceThe purpose of this module is to give in-service Foundation Phase teachers the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills with regards to the importance of art and art activities in the Foundation Phase (Gr R – 3), pertaining to support and enhance literacy as well as numeracy skills. This module further aims to equip the in-service Life Skills teacher professionally with specialized disciplinary knowl-edge, skills and values (in the discipline of art) that are required to effectively fulfill the role as Foundation Phase educator, focusing on the holistic development of the young child, as well as contributing towards better literacy and numeracy skills. It is practice-based with the emphasis on equipping the teacher with the necessary skills to plan and execute meaningful, creative and enjoyable art activi-ties in the Foundation Phase classroom.

It is a practice based course that would provide hands on skills in the different units it addresses.

Nature of Environmental Education NQF: Level 6 Duration: 5 Days Mode of Delivery: Contact/DistanceThis course will enable participants to design, develop and manage environmental education programmes. It will also enable them to understand the relevance of policies and conventions to environmental education and how to propose appropriate educational responses to different workplace contexts. This course will enable more educationally-sound, workplace responsive environmental

programmes.

Developing Action Projects NQF: Level 6 Duration: 5 Days Mode of Delivery: Contact/DistanceThis programme will enable learners to analyse a range of environmental issues and investigate options for improved environmental management and sustainable living. The course will explore how to plan and set up an environmental action project. It will thus build knowledge and skills in many generic project management competencies, as well as make an impact at community level.

Environmental Issues and Responses

NQF: Level 6 Duration: 5 Days Mode of Delivery: Contact/Distance This programme will enable learners to analyse a range of environmental issues and investigate options for improved environmental management and sustainable living. This programme enables them to propose appropriate educational responses for different contexts, design an action plan for their education project, implement it and reflect on their plan of action within their own workplace context.

Inclusive Environmental Education Programmes

NQF: Level 6 Duration: 5 Days Mode of Delivery: Contact/DistanceThis programme will enable participants to identify and support learners with special needs within environmental learning pro-grammes. The programme will also enable participants to explore how they can accommodate various barriers to learning within their own workplace context.
