1. Introduction :

The Vidyapeetha was established at Tirupati(A.P.) in 1961 bythe Govt. of India on the recommendations of the Central SanskritCommission as an autonomous body under the name of “ KendriyaSanskrit Vidyapeetha, Tirupati society”. Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, the thenVice President of India laid the foundation stone of the Vidyapeetha onthe 4th January 1962. The basic objectives of setting up of the Vidyapeethais to impart and improve the Sanskrit pedagogy, to accelerate the paceof higher Sanskrit learning and to combine the traditional Sanskriteducation with modern scientific research.

Later, Kendriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha, Tirupati came under theadministrative control of Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan as an autonomousbody under the Ministry of Education in April 1971. In the year 1987,the Vidyapeetha was declared as a Deemed University by theGovernment of India, considering its progress in the past 25 years. Itwas formally inaugurated by the President of India Sri R. Venkataramanon 26th of August 1989. This Vidyapeetha was given the status of“Center of Potential in the subject of Traditional Shastras” duringthis year, for its development towards the traditional ancient sacredlanguage of Sanskrit.

The students from different parts of India are studying variousSastras as well as modern subjects like Computer Science, Maths, Historyetc. in this university. The medium of instruction imparted for the traditionalsubjects are in Sanskrit only which is a unique feature.

2. Vidyapeetha — Centre of Excellence in the Subject ofTraditional Sastras

The University Grants Commission has recognised the Vidyapeethaas a Centre of Potential for Excellence in the Subject of TraditionalSastras recognising the excellent achievements, strength and acclaimearned by the Vidyapeetha in the field of Teaching and Research in thetraditional sastras.

Under this scheme, following activities are decided to be undertakenby the Vidyapeetha.

3. Vidyapeetha : Accredited with A+ grade by NAAC

On the recommendations of the Peer Team, which visited theVidyapeetha from 19th – 21st August, 2003, the National Assessmentand Accreditation Council (NAAC) has accredited the Vidyapeethawith A+ grade. According to the criteria fixed by NAAC for variouscomponents the Vidyapeetha has secured 91.80 credits out of 100.

4. General Information

(a) Residential facility :

Vidyapeetha constructed three buildings viz., Vedachala,Seshachala and Garudachala on the campus to accommodate non-local students. These three buildings can accommodate about 300students. A mess attached to this Hostel is managed by Student Co-operative Management, to provide boarding facilities to the studentsstaying in the Hostel. The vidyapeetha has separate hostel for ladiesnamed Sri Padmavati Mahila Chhatravas, for non-local girl students.

(b) Medical facility :1. All the students of the Vidyapeetha including full-time research

scholars are entitled to utilise the Free Medical Service facilityprovided by the University.

2. Medical services are offered to all students only during theacademic session. The doctor authorised by the Vidyapeetha willtreat the sick students. However, medicine prescribed must bepurchased by the students at their own cost.

3. University does not take any responsibility if a student consults aphysician other than the one who is authorised.

4. A student suffering from any chronic illness cannot be treatedunder this facility and he will be referred to local governmenthospital for treatment.

5. The service offered is only medical counselling and no other liabilityis devolved on the part of the University.

6. Any student found misusing the services so offered shall not beallowed to avail the medical facility further.

(c) Library :The University Library named after the first Chancellor,

Mahamahopadhyaya Sri Pattabhirama Sastri has a rich and valuablecollections of about 70,000 books on various Sastras/subjects andcollection of more than 5000 manuscripts besides having an inflowof more than 160 Research journals and periodicals. The libraryalso got the modern facility of INFLIBNET.

(d) Computer Centre :The University has a well equipped computer centre established

with the financial assistance of UGC. The efforts are being made todevelop hypertext of Vedas, to prepare software for the criticaledition of manuscripts, to preserve rare texts and to expose thestaff, students and the traditional scholars to the computers foroptimum utilisation.

(e) Medium of Instruction & Examination :Sanskrit will be taught in Sanskrit medium only and medium of

exmination will also be Sanskrit. For modern subjects medium ofinstruction and examination will be English and respective languagefor languages.

(f) Examinations : Examinations are conducted at the end of eachSemester and normally Ist Semester exams will be in November-2006and II Semester exams in May -2007 and for Non SemesterExaminations will be in the month of May, 2007.Attendance: 75% of attendance is compulsory for all courses and thestudents below 50% percent attendance will not be allowed to writethe examinations.

(g) Vacation :Mid term vacation will be 2 weeks and summer vacation 6 weeks.

5. Courses offered :The University is offering traditional courses in Sahitya,

Vyakarana, Jyotisha, Nyaya, Vedanta, Mimamsa, Veda Bhasya, AgamaDharmasastra, Sankhya Yoga, Puranetihasa etc. with modern subjectsviz. Computer Science, Mathematics, History etc.

The Professional Courses offered in the university are SikshaSastry (B.Ed.) and Siksha Acharya (M.Ed.), monitored by NationalCouncil for Teacher Education (NCTE). Other courses leading toDiploma, P.G.Diploma and Research Degrees are available undervarious faculties.

REGULAR COURSES :The following are the courses offered in the Vidyapeetha :–

I. PRAK SASTRI (Eq. to INTERMEDIATE/+2) Duration : Two years course

Age : 15 to 18 years as on 01-06-2006. No upper age limit for ladies.

Eligibility : Those who have passed/completed Samhita (Rigvedaor Yajurveda) and having some knowledge of Sanskrit are eligible, subjectto the passing of entrance test conducted by the Vidyapeetha in Samhitaof respective Veda and Sanskrit.

Passed in +2 or knowledge of English is not compulsory.

Note : In Sastri/B.A., Sanskrit will be taught in Sanskrit medium onlyand medium of Examination will also be Sanskrit. For other subjectsmedium of instruction and Examination excluding Languages will beEnglish and respective Language for Languages.

III. B.A. Duration, Age, Eligibility are as specified in the Sastri course.

RULES TO SELECT THE SUBJECT :

1. Those who want to join the Acharya course may select any one ofthe above mentioned Sastras.

2. Generally the main subject opted in Sastri/B.A.(O.L.) course canbe taken at Acharya level.

3. If any candidate wants to opt subject other than the main subjectopted in Sastri B.A level, he has to produce a certificate of evidencefrom a traditional scholar that he has studied the subject under himprivately. Candidate can be admitted in any branch without such acertificate also if the admission committee is satisfied with hisperformance in the interview and recommends for admission.

4. Those who passed B.A. or equivalent examination of any universitywith Sanskrit for 200 marks are allowed to opt Sahitya only atAcharya level.

5. Those who passed B.A. or equivalent examination of any universitywith Sanskrit as a subject and Darsana as main subject can optAdvaita/Visistadvaita/Dvaita Vedanta at Acharya level.

6. Those who passed Vedalankara or Vidyalankara are eligible to Sahityaonly.

7. Those who passed B.A. or B.Sc. with Astronomy as main subjectand Sanskrit are eligible to opt Siddhanta Jyothisha only.

8. Those who passed Acharya/M.A. with one subject can opt anysubject in the Acharya course, subject to the approval of theAdmission Committee and Vice-Chancellor.

9. The Admission Committee is empowered to accept or reject theoption of any subject at the time of interview. The decision of theVice- Chancellor on the assignment of subject to the candidates onthe recommendation of the admission Committee shall be final.

V. POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN YOGA VIJNANA

Total number of seats : 40 seats.Duration of the Course : One year (Full time, Annual Examination)

Number of Papers : Five theory papers followed by two practical papersconsisting of 100 marks each. Total marks will be 700.

Medium of Instruction : Sanskrit/EnglishEligibility : A pass in Degree examination from any recognizedUniversities, studied under 10+2+3 pattern.Scheme of Examination : the University will conduct the examinations atthe end of Academic year, after completion of the course.Selection of candidates: Selection will be made on the basis of number ofapplications received subject to availability of seats. (Purely according tomerit).A medical fitness certificate from Civil Asst. Surgeon should be enclosedalong with application. The decision of the Registrar is final with regardto admission etc.Fee payable for the course: Rs. 600/- including Rs.200/- as caution deposit(refundable) and a sum of Rs. 500/- towards refreshments, payable atone time at the time of admission.

VI. POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN RESEARCH METHODOLOGY AND

MANUSCRIPTOLOGY

Duration : OneYear Regular Course [ Annual Examination ]

Eligibility : Acharya or M.A.(Sanskrit) degree or equivalent degree/oriental title recognized by the Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth, Tirupatiwith a minimum of 55% marks, whereas the minimum will be 50% forScheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates.Selection : Selection will be made on the basis of number of applicationsreceived subject to availability of seats [Other conditions same as specifiedin M.Phil. (Sanskrit) vide page no. 17].

VII. M.A. IN SANSKRIT - SABDABODHA SYSTEMS & LANGUAGE

TECHNOLOGY

* An Interdisciplinary Course of Unique Type Under Credit based Se-mester System of Education.* A blend of Computer Science, Modern Linguistics and SabdabodhaSystems like Vyakarana, Nyaya and Mimamsa.

* An Avenue for a new area of research in Sanskrit.* An opportunity for good placements.

Course Duration : 4 semesters (2 years) No of Seats : 10

Admission Criteria : Admissions will be given basing on merit andperformance in the interview.

Medium of Instruction : Sanskrit, English and Hindi.

Eligibility Criteria :

1. Shastri/ B.A./ any other equivalent degree ( Preferably in Nyaya,Vyakarana, Mimamsa or Darsana.) with Computer Science/Computer Applications or sufficient Computer background.

2. B.A./B.Sc./BCA/ anyother equivalent degree with Sanskrit andComputer Science or Mathematics background.

Supporting bridge courses will be offered to the admitted studentsbefore starting the actual course to strengthen their knowledgein Computer Science, Sanskrit and Mathematics so that thestudents will be brought under a uniform plane.

Support : Selected students will be provided with the Scholarship givenon par with other Master Course in the Vidyapeetha.

Eligibility : Acharya/any Masters Degree with Sanskrit preferably inNyaya, Vyakarana and Mimamsa.

Course Duration : 2 semesters (one year)Fee : Rs. 600+Rs.200 Lib. caution deposit - refundable.)

VIII. M.Phil. (Sanskrit) / M.Phil. (Education)

Duration : One Year Regular Course (Annual Examination)

Eligibility : Acharya or M.A.(Sanskrit) degree or equivalent degree/oriental title recognized by the Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth, Tirupatiwith a minimum of 55% marks, whereas the minimum will be 50% forScheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates. Proficiency in Sanskritis a must.

For M.Phil. (Education) M.Ed. with atleast 55% of marks.

No. of Seats : 20+5=25 only.

Selection : Selection will be made on the basis of number of applicationsreceived subject to availability of seats. Applicant’s writing skills inSanskrit will be assessed by way of a brief write-up before half an hourto the interview. Marks in qualifying examination and performance inwriteup as well as interview shall be the criteria for selection. Separatemerit list will be prepared for different sastras.)

IX. VIDYAVARIDHI (Ph.D.)

The Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth, Tirupati will award the degreeof Vidyavaridhi to the students admitted as per rules of the Vidyapeetha,after completion of their research work duly evaluated by the examinersappointed by the Vidyapeetha for this purpose.

The Sanskrit version of the degree will bear the name Vidyavaridhiand the corresponding English version of the degree will be DOCTOROF PHILOSOPHY.

Eligibility : Acharya or M.A.(Sanskrit) degree or equivalent degree/

oriental title recognized by the Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth, Tirupatiwith a minimum of 55% marks, whereas the minimum will be 50% forScheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates.

Candidates who have passed the Acharya I year and appeared/appearing for II year are also eligible to appear for Vidyavaridhi entrancetest. They will be admitted to the Vidyavaridhi course on passing of theentrance test and the two years Acharya course as per the existing rules.(The hall-ticket of Acharya II year examination and Xerox copy of the Iyear mark statement should be enclosed along with their application).

Candidates who are appearing in M.Phil. (Skt.) P.G.Diploma inResearch Methodology & Manuscriptology/ any other Post-M.A.(Skt.)course of one year duration will also be given exemption from the entrancetest provided the candidate applies through this prospectus and submitsprovisional certificate etc by 15th August 2006.

An aptitude test for entrance to Vidyavaridhi, on the abridgedpattern of UGC NET will be conducted and the candidates declared tohave passed the test/ exempted from the test under rules, shall approachthe Vidyapeetha for a guide or an outside scholar approved by theVidyapeetha as a Research Guide and submit his formal approval inwriting to guide them and get it forwarded in the proforma to the Registrar.

Unless exempted under the rules, all applicants are requiredto qualify in the Vidyavaridhi Entrance Test to be eligible forinterview for the selection of topic. Candidates who have passedNET/SLET accredited by UGC, qualified on or before June, 2002 /M.Phil./Ph.D. in the related Shastra and subjects/ P.G.Diploma inResearch Methodology and Manuscriptology/ like to join the courseunder faculty improvement programme of UGC are exempted fromappearing in the entrance test conducted by the Vidyapeetha andthey may apply directly for the course.

Vidyavaridhi Entrance Test : On 02-07-2006

The syllabus of UGC NET Examination will be broadly followedfor Part A and Part B of Vidyavaridhi Entrance Test.

PART - A ( 50 Objective questions) 50×1=50 marks

The following subjects are specified with a maximum of 4 markseach and each question asked in the paper will carry one mark.

Part - B (Descriptive) 5×10=50

This part will consist of Question no. I & II.

(a) Question No. I will be COMPULSORY for all and will consist ofquestions on A) History of Vedic Literature B) History of ClassicalSanskrit Literature C) Vedangas and D) Darsanas. In all, there willbe FOUR questions, one from each of the above branches.Students arerequired to answer ONE question at their discretion from any branch.

(b) Question No. II will be SPECIALISED in a particular Sastra. Therewill be FIVE questions in each of the following branches and the studentis required to answer FOUR only from a particular Sastra, studied atthe post-graduation level. 10×4=40

1. The fee for the entrance test for Vidyavaridhi Course is Rs. 200/-only. The amount may be paid by Demand draft in favour of the

Registrar, Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth, Tirupati. The D.D. shouldbe enclosed along with the prescribed application from.

2. The entrance test will be conducted at Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth,Tirupati only.

3. Fees once paid will not be refunded.

Types of Research Scholars: (i) Regular and (b) Part-Time

1. Regular students will pursue the course working fulltime in theVidyapeetha, under the guides on all working days of the Vidyapeethafor a minimum period of three years (or two years as mentionedbelow at Sl.No. 4) securing 75% total attendance.

2. The candidates admitted as regular scholars shall have to continue asregular scholars till the completion of one year or till the end of Pre-Vidyavaridhi Test (PVVT) whichever is earlier. No change will beallowed before the completion of such period.

3. The part-time research scholars will persue the course for a minimumperiod of three years (or two years as mentioned below at Sl.No. 4)with a stipulation to complete 90 days of attendance.

4. The minimum period will be two years in case of holders of P.G.Diplomain Research Methodology and Manuscriptology /M.Phil. in Sanskrit/Vidyavaridhi (Ph.D.) in the related subject or area. In such cases theprivate Research Scholars shall have to work for 60 days under the guide.

5. Any qualified employee of the Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha, Tirupatior a teacher in any recognised school or college having three yearsof experience certified by the competent authority will be eligible toregister as Part time Research Scholar and will have to pursue theresearch under his guide. Such candidates have to attend 30 daysCompulsory Personal Contact Programme in the First Year of thecourse and undergo instructions on the Pre-Vidyavaridhi courses. Hehas to complete remaining 60 days of attendance in the next twoyears under his guide. Then only he will be considered eligible tosubmit thesis.

6. Regular as well as private Researh Scholars shall have to present 2Research papers on the proposed final thesis during the last 90 daysof the Vidyavaridhi Period to make themselves eligible to submit thethesis.

7. After the expiry of three years, if required a candidate will beconsidered for an extension for one year subject to the approval ofthe Vidyapeetha Research Committee. Maximum permissibleextension will be for two years only from the date of registration.

8. In case, the candidate is unable to submit his thesis within five years,he will have to apply for re-registration.

9. After the completion of 10 months but within 15 months from thedate of registration, the scholar is required to appear in the Pre-Vidyavaridhi (PVVT) Test consisting of three papers, 100 marks each.

10.If any regular or private candidate joins in any regular full time degreecourse either in the Vidyapeetha or outside the registration standscancelled forthwith. No break period shall be allowed during theVidyavaridhi (Ph.D.) course to join in any regular course oremployment or service.

11. The rules framed by University Grants Commission (UGC) shall applyto all JRFs / SRFs.

PROCEDURE FOR ADMISSION:

a) In consultation with the Guide, the candidates will submit an abstractof his proposed thesis in FIVE copies with the certificates that thetopic proposed is a new one and will be his original contribution toknowledge. It will be a new interpretation of a text, topic or criticaledition of hitherto unpublished work or bringing out a fresh edition byapplying principles of higher criticism to a work/text effecting furtherimprovements on the texts along with elaborate introduction and criticalnotes provided the proposed guide endorses the work for highertextual criticism. The medium of presentation of the thesis shall beSanskrit in Devanagari Script.

b) Normally, a student will be eligible to pursue his research in the field/

Shastra in which he has passed ACHARYA examination or equivalent.In special circumstances, the candidates can be allowed to work inallied subjects such as within Darsanas, Puranas, Vedas, Branches ofVyakarana, Nyaya and Jyothisha with reference to the field of hisspecialization at the Acharya level or its equivalent.

c) In order to promote interdisciplinary research, the ResearchCommittee, if considered necessary may allow a candidate to takeapproved Co-guide from within the Vidyapeetha or other recognizedinstitutes/universities.

GENERAL RULES GOVERNING ADMISSION :1. The candidates seeking admission should send the application in the

prescribed form. The application form should be filled in by theapplicant in his/her own hand and signed. The declaration must besigned by the candidate and by the parent or guardian.

2. The candidates must enclose the following documents along withthe application, failing which the application will be summarily rejected.

a) Duly attested Xerox copies of the following certificates.

i. Provisional/Original pass certificates of the last qualifyingexamination.

ii. Marks obtained in each examination right from Matriculation/SSC/OSLC to the last qualifying examination.

iii. Transfer certificate. vi. Caste certificate

3. Incomplete applications or those received after the due date will berejected. The office of the Vidyapeetha will not be held responsiblefor delay or miscarriage of application forms sent by post.

4. Students will be admitted to the Vidyapeetha in accordance with therules governing eligibility, merit, good conduct etc., as determined bythe Vidyapeetha from time to time and as per the rules existing onthe date of actual admission after interview.

5. The candidates must attend in person and produce the originaldocuments listed below at the time of interview to be conducted ona specified date and time failing which he/she will not be consideredfor admission. If the admission is offered, he/she shall pay the feesimmediately failing, which he/she will forfeit, the seat. The nextcandidate in the merit list will be considered for admission.

8. No student will be permitted to appear for any other universityexamination during the period of study in the Vidyapeetha.

9. The name of the student will be struck off from the rolls or he/shemay be expelled, if he/she participates in political, illegal, antinationalactivities, strikes etc.

10. Students will not be allowed to change the optional subject after onemonth from the date of joining even seats are vacant.

11. The candidates should submit two copies of recent passport sizephotographs duly attested by a Gazetted Officer at the time ofadmission.

12. All the original certificates have to be deposited in the office at thetime of admission, and these certificates will not be returned in themiddle of the course. As such, originals for their future requirementfor applying to scholarships and such other purposes, no request forcopies of such certificates shall be entertained later.

13. The students who have discontinued the studies during the II or IIIyear courses(Prak Sastri/Sastri/BA/Acharya courses) may completetheir course by way of private study and there is no provision fortaking admission in the respective year where they have discontinued.

14. The Vidyapeetha reserves the right to run the course or not to runthe course during the year in view of the applications received for aparticular course.

HOSTEL

There is limited provision for hostel accommodation. No. studentcan claim a seat in Hostel as a matter of right, nor can he/she continue tostay in a particular room all the time. The decision of the Warden/DeputyWarden in the allotment of room is final.

No hostel accommodation, scholarship will be provided forCertificate, Diploma courses, Second Acharya/ Vidyavaridhi students.RESERVATIONS :

Seats are reserved for SC, ST, PHC as per the reservation rules,30% of seats in B.A course are reserved for ladies. A few seats are alsoreserved for the children of the employees of the Vidyapeetha. Any unfilledseats under reserved categories will be treated as unreserved seats.

Scholarshipwill be given only for 10 months in a year and scholarship will be sanctionedat once in the begining of the year only.

All the students who have been admitted to various courses in theVidypaeetha such as Prak-Sastri, Sastri, Acharya, M.Phil. andVidyavaridhi courses should open the Savings Bank Account withAndhra Bank, S.V. Arts College Branch, Tirupati in order to haveany transactions in connection with Vidyapeetha.

2. The admitted students should remit their admission fee/examinationfee pertaining to that course in the Andhra Bank, S.V. Arts CollegeBranch, Tirupati through Challan Form available in the Vidyapeetha.

The decision of the Registrar is final and binding with regard to admission etc.
