Dear Parents/ Carers,
ROCKETING AROUND THE SCHOOL WITH MR PITT
K ELDRED: Last Tuesday I visited KE during a writing lesson. It was a fun lesson because the children were talking about the steps we follow to brush our teeth. They had to cut and sequence the pictures in correct order. Some groups worked with Mrs Dodman to make their sentences longer and more interesting. I was able to work with each group and listen to the children explain to me each step. The children were also very lucky as they all received their very own toothbrush, paste and information brochure about caring for our teeth. It was a wonderful visit in KE and I cannot wait to see their beautiful shiny teeth when I visit next.
4 TAYLOR: Last Thursday I visited 4T during numeracy rotations. The children participated in short, sharp activities related to fractions and decimals. Some of the activities included matching fractions to decimals, dominoes, ordering fractions as well as some more challenging problems created by Miss Kelleyan. I was impressed with the children’s focus during the rotations as well as their knowledge as fractions can be really tricky. It was also fun working with the children during dominoes and watching to see if the activity could be completed before the timer went off. Great work 4T!
FAIRVALE FAIR DAY
Yesterday we celebrated our annual end of year Fairvale Fair Day. It was an enjoyable day for students, their families
and the staff of Fairvale PS. I would like congratulate the students on their outstanding behaviour on the day. These
days are not possible without the support of our community. I would also like to thank Ms Lee our Fair Day Coordinator,
and her team for planning the 2018 Fairvale Fair Day. Monies raised on the day will go towards beautification projects
across the school.
SEMESTER 2 REPORTS
Semester 2 Reports will be going home Thursday 13 December in an envelope. I am currently reading and signing every
report and it is something that I really enjoy doing. Be sure to discuss the report with your child and focus on what the
teacher has written. Those comments are important. Be proud of your child’s achievements! If you have questions about
the report, please make an appointment to speak with your child’s teacher. Inside each report there will be a 2019
resource list—this allows for students to be ready for learning from day one next year.
END OF YEAR CELEBRATIONS
We still have some more exciting events still to come this year. See information below.
Have a great fortnight!

Language, Literacy and Learning
Our Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2
teachers have been involved in Language,
Literacy and Learning training all year with
some teachers from Fairfield West Public
School. They have attended professional
learning sessions every fortnight and have
learnt how to explicitly teach and extend
students in reading and writing. Last week
the teachers were presented with a
certificate for successfully completing their
first year of training. Well done!
Playgroup
Playgroup has celebrated the end of the
year with a magic show and a jumping
castle. Last Monday the playgroup
students and families participated in a
magic show. They were entertained by
magic tricks and stories. In week 8 the
students celebrated the end of the year
with a jumping castle and party food. It was
great to see so many familiar faces from
our Kindergarten orientation. Playgroup will
be continuing in 2019 and we would love to
see more families join in the fun.
Garden
Our students have been working hard to
create a cultural art piece for their bush
tucker garden. The students have been
working with Brenden from the Botanical
Gardens and our amazing teachers to
create a wonderful new garden area. We
hope the garden area will be ready for our
students to explore in 2019. The new
garden will be located behind 5/6L and
5/6T’s classroom. It will include a new path
area and native plants.

PSSA RESULTS
CHOOSING SCHOOL SHOES Are expensive school shoes the best option for happy feet?
Let's face it. School shoes have never been at the cutting
edge of fashion. In fact if you look at what your parents
were wearing, the humble school shoe really hasn't evolved
much at all. Tips for choosing shoes: http://
www.schoolatoz.nsw.edu.au/wellbeing/health/choosing-
the-right-school-shoes
GRAND FINAL
All children representing the school
at PSSA must wear a SCHOOL HAT.
PSSA 2018—in review
We’ve had another successful year at PSSA.
Congratulations to our Season 3 Premiers—the Boys
Softball team and our Runners Up—the Girls
Softball.
I would also like to congratulate everyone who has
been on a PSSA team in 2018. I hope you have
enjoyed the experience and continue to have the
opportunity to play team sports again.
A big thank you to the coaches during 2018.
Without coaches we wouldn't have PSSA and our
coaches go above and beyond at Fairvale PS.
I would also like to thank Mr Kinniburgh for his
wonderful contribution he continues to display as
PSSA Coordinator. He represents our school at PSSA
meetings and has many administrative duties across
the Zone. Thank you also to the office staff for
liaising with Mr K with buses, permission notes and
money collection.
A great job all round!

KINDERGARTEN ENROLMENTS
If your child turns 5 before 31st July, 2019, it is important that you enrol your child at the office now.
Please pass this message to friends and neighbours whose child will be eligible to begin school in 2019.
2019 ORGANISATION
I have commenced organisation for 2019. To assist me with
this, I am asking for families to return the note that was sent
home regarding changes for 2019. If you are leaving the
school or taking extended leave, you must return the note.
More information regarding school plans will be shared at
our final P&C meeting for 2018 on Thursday 6 December,
commencing at 9.15am.
Santa is coming to Town. We are preparing OSHClub for his
arrival! We have spent the last couple of weeks, decorating the
hall with Christmas Cheer, creating our very own Fire Place,
Decorated our Christmas Tree and made some yummy Reindeer
cookies. We have even been learning about the different
celebrations of the Holidays Around the World, because we have
such a wide span of cultures here at Fairvale!
We had so much fun last week creating our very own Fluffy Slime!
We are obsessed, OF COURSE!!! We followed all the instructions,
to help each other, then we mixed it all together to create our
awesome purple fluffy slime. We then split it up, sharing with
each other and showing our awesome creations!
