CHURCH An Evangelical Presbyterian Congregation

Over the past few months we have made some exciting up-dates and changes to keep the people of Faith Community Church more connected, no matter where they are. The first one you may have no-ticed; we now have Wi-Fi in all of the buildings around campus.

We still have our secure staff network, but we have added the Faith Leader network so that our small group leaders, Bible study and Sunday school teachers can show videos or pull up notes in their classes and the Faith Guest network so that everyone can access their Bible and study tool apps anywhere on our campus.

Another update we have made is to our website, www.faithrus.org. Our completely rebuilt site is the place to go for information on com-ing events, our different ministries, or even to listen to a sermon that you might have missed, or want to hear again.

One of the most significant changes that we have made is in the ways we can accept financial contributions. In addition to the ways you have been able to give in the past, you will now be able to give online through our website, smart phone app, or even through text messaging. No matter where you are, you will be able to continue your giving and support of Faith Church.

We’ve shared with you before, how the original plans for Faith Café were to have dinners for about six weeks in the summer and six weeks in the fall. We quickly learned that the needs of our guests don’t take the sum-mer off. In fact, because many programs including the schools are seasonal, our guests depend on Faith Café all the more.

Summer is also a time when many of our volunteers head back up north to their summer homes. If you would enjoy coming to find out what Faith Café is all about, we can put you to work.

Faith Café continues to provide 80-100 meals each and every Thursday night, all summer long. The cost of each meal is still less than $3 per guest, despite serving a main course with sides plus soup, salad and dessert.

None of this would be possible without the continued loyal support of our Faith Family. We are so thankful each week that you continue to financially help this ministry.

Blessed to be a Blessing! Faith Café

The following member of our

Faith Family has been nominated

to serve as a Church Officer.

ELDER

Debbie is a graduate of the Uni-versity of Illinois. She moved to Florida in 1976 and began working as a paralegal for law firms and corporations in Tampa and St. Pe-tersburg until 2007 at which time she left the legal field and began working as the administrator of Faith Church. She served as the administrator until August, 2014. During the years of 1983 through 2014, Debbie worked part time for area YMCA's in various programs. In August, 2014 she began devot-ing all of her time to working for the Greater St. Petersburg YMCA, primarily at the Bardmoor Branch, focusing on group exercise and diabetes prevention. Debbie has served Faith Church as a Deacon and as an Elder and Clerk of Ses-sion. She has been a member of the Worship, Fellowship and Prop-erties ministries and currently vol-unteers as a money counter. Her husband Bill is a commercial real estate attorney. Am I really willing to serve? Recently, I have been asking myself this question a lot. I know that I am willing to do the things that I like and want to do around the church, but how willing am I to actually serve? As I have pondered this question, the Biblical character that kept popping into my mind was Philip. Philip was one of the first deacons in the New Testa-ment church. I don’t think he ever filled out a “spiritual giftedness assessment,” or ever even really contemplated where his talents and skills would be most beneficial to the church. He was a guy who was willing to do a job that the disciples did not want or have time to do. Because he was willing to serve, God did amazing things through him. What would it look like if we were willing to do the tasks that others did not want to do? What could happen if we were willing to step aside and let someone else have the spotlight? When the one we serve is more important than the way we are serving, big things can happen!

Philip was introduced in Acts 6. He got two whole words in the account, also Philip, that’s it. There was no grand intro-duction and no fanfare; just two words. Philip saw a need in his church and he stepped up with six other guys to help.

The disciples prayed over them and turned them loose on the problem. Two chapters later he shows up again. This time he is 100 miles away and surrounded by a group of people that most church people of the day would not go anywhere near. Philip, a guy who just volunteered to pass out food, started preach-ing. God even gave him the ability to do signs and wonders, and giant crowds of people be-gan to put their faith in Jesus. Even the town sorcerer turned from his ways and accepted Christ as his Savior. Just then, Peter and John showed up, and Philip was willing to take a step back. Even though he was the one who had put in the time and energy to introduce all of these people to Jesus, Philip was willing to let the apostles come in and take over. Then something crazy happened; an angel showed up and told him to leave the crowds of people and to focus on just one spe-cific person, and of course, Philip was willing. Philip led a representative of the Queen of Ethiopia to Christ while riding in his chariot, and the Gospel was spread to Africa. Then Philip vanished, literally. He doesn’t show up again in Acts until chapter 21, and this time he doesn’t appear as a great missionary or miracle worker, but as a father who has devoted his life to raising Godly chil-dren.

Take a look around our church and ask yourself, “Am I willing to serve?” If you see a need that needs to be met, and you can do something about it, do it! I love that Philip never ques-tioned if he was the right person to serve in any way, he just did it! He didn’t think he was too good to be on kitchen duty; he didn’t think he was too inexperienced to preach to thousands of people; he didn’t think that he didn’t have enough training to exegete a difficult pas-sage of the Old Testament. He saw a need and was willing to serve in any way he could.

How does someone go from mak-ing sure that a group of widows have enough to eat, to performing miracles, casting out evil spirits, and healing the sick and lame? How does someone who was cho-sen to pass out bread become one of the greatest witnesses for Christ the world has ever seen? That is Philip’s story, and it could be ours too. Our story might not turn out exactly like Philip’s; we probably will not be chasing down many chariots on foot, or winning any infamous sorcerers to Christ, but when we are willing to serve in whatever ways are needed in the church, God can do some incredi-ble things! Philip’s story is amaz-ing, but it did not start out as some-thing amazing. It started out with a guy who was willing to serve God anyway he could. Are you willing to serve?

"Joy in the Journey"

Hebrews 12:2 talks about Christ's joy as He approached the cross. Joy before crucifix-ion? How can that be? Specifi-cally, the Scripture states: “For the joy set before Him He en-dured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” You see, Christ looked beyond His current struggles to the ultimate joy of being with his Father in Heaven.

When I started in worship min-istry over 30 years ago, there was much joy before me, cul-minating in me having the honor and privilege of being your Contemporary Worship Leader for the last few years. Nearly my entire worship min-istry experience has been sup-porting Pastor Dave both in his church in Maryland as well as here at Faith. Pastor Dave even referred to me as his “George Beverly Shea” (Billy Graham's lifelong worship leader)!

As some of you know, my fam-ily and I have gone through some very difficult struggles over the past two years, includ-ing losing two parents and

fighting through some seri-ous personal health issues. Those struggles, while very trying on our family, have also strengthened us as a family and shown us how God's presence never leaves us, even in the darkest of times. Your acts of love shown to me and my family during these difficult times were literally the hands of God, providing comfort and encouragement that we will never forget.

As a result of these struggles and seeing God's work amidst them, I now have a new joy set before me, and that is spending more time with my family. My life has gotten very busy with a myr-iad of things over the last year, and I realized that I was missing out on the joy of my family. So, after much prayer, I was led to step down as your Contemporary Worship Leader in order to get my life back in balance and free up the time I needed to reinvest in my family. I can tell you that I am already experiencing that joy and my family has welcomed it.

Faith Press June 2016

I will always cherish my time as both a participant and Leader in worship; it was a true joy indeed! I am reminded of the lyrics of one of my favorite songs by Michael Card, Joy in the Journey:

There is a joy in the journey,

There's a light we can love on the way.

There is a wonder and wildness to life,

And freedom for those who obey.

All those who seek it shall find it,

A pardon for all who believe.

Hope for the hopeless

and sight for the blind

To all who've been born of the Spirit

And who share incarnation with Him;

Who belong to eternity, stranded in time,

And weary of struggling with sin.

Forget not the hope that's before you,

And never stop counting the cost.

Remember the hopelessness

when you were lost?

So there has been joy in the journey thus far; thank you for being part of that joy! I look forward to the joy to come!

Because He Lives,

Pioneer Clubs We ended the year with celebration; an ice cream social for the children and their families while present-ing their awards. Then the children “crossed over” into their new clubs for next year while meeting their new leaders. We ended the eve-ning joining hands with our youth and adults with corpo-rate prayer under the Tower honoring the “National Day of Prayer.” See you August

17 for the start of the new Pioneer Club year.

Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.

To Sweet Ole Faith Church! So many caring persons…Thank you for the cards and well-wishes to speed along my care and healing for the rotator cuff surgery. You are special bless-ings!

Harriet (Aughinbaugh)

Dear Youth, I want to thank the youth group that went on the Dominican Republic Mission Trip. They took 100 Gospels of John in Spanish that I provided. From reports of Andrew and others on the team, the fami-lies and children were so excited to get them. Many said that they had already read them and even memorized some! The team wants to take more Gospels of John on the next trip, as many heard the gospel of salvation for the first time. Thank you, youth, and thank you, Andrew Larsen.

Nancy Davis

Dear Faith Church, Thank you for you kindness. The flowers are so beautiful! Nancy (Fannon) delivered them to me be-fore she left for New York. I loven ‘em!

Congratulations to

our wonderful graduates!

This month, as the students are out of school for the summer, we realize students like to sit around the house asking for things to do. So, we have a summer full of activities to get them off of the couch and around their friends in the youth group. Wednesday, June 8 - Make a

Our Sunday morning Bible study has been going through a study on the book of James and will continue to do so through-out the month of June. We have been studying our faith and how it looks when we live accord-ingly. We have called this study through the book of James, A Working Faith.

Our Sunday morning study is a great time to get connected to the student ministry in a less formal setting where we have our Bible study, different games and LOTS of donuts.

Lastly, on Sunday, June 5, we are excited to celebrate our high school graduates in both services with a reception in between services.

Thank you so much for all of the love and generosity that you showed us during the baby shower on April 17! We were over-whelmed by all of the generous gifts and kind words we received.

A special thank you to Lindsey Peek who set up the shower and served as such a wonderful host.

We feel truly blessed to call Faith our church family, and are excited to introduce yet another little Lar-sen boy to you all very soon.

Thank you again!

Our thoughts and prayers are with the following who have lost loved ones recently:

Derek Rohrer and family—his wife, Marilyn Rohrer, died May 13, 2016.

We believe that Jesus died and rose again; and so it will be for those who died in Christ. God will raise them to be with the Lord forever.

Our 2016 Honduras team will journey to Honduras July

11-18. We are planning to outreach to the people of Hon-duras mostly through the New Hope Clinic in San Fran-cisco outreaching to neighboring villages—there are over 50 to choose from. At all times we will be reflecting the love of Christ and sharing His word. Here is how you can participate

SOUL TO SOLE – We will continue to collect child or adult flip flops through June. Every pair will prevent disease entering the body of a child or adult. For a small amount of money you can work wonders for some very beautiful children and adults in the moun-tains of Honduras. SCHOOL KITS: Children’s scissors, pencils, sharp-eners, erasers and crayons. PERSONAL CARE KITS: Toothbrushes, band-aids and washcloths.

We are collecting monetary donations for toothpaste, soap and notebooks. The Honduras Team purchases these items in the capital of Honduras due to airline weight re-strictions and cost of additional luggage.

You can help us in another way by joining us at one or both of our Spirit Nights: the first one is at Culver’s on Park Blvd Tuesday, June 21, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. and the second one is at Chick-fil-A on Park Blvd. in Seminole Wednesday, June 22 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. It is very sim-ple to support this fundraiser. Just come in or go through the drive thru to order your food during the special hours and mention you are here to support the Honduras Team at Faith Church; 10-15% of the sale will go toward the team’s fund-raising efforts.

It takes each of us from the congregation to the community to raise the funds and reach our goal of $19,000. Every penny can make a difference in the lives of the people of Honduras. To date, we have raised $16,710.77. We are $2,289.23 away from reaching our goal. Thank you for your ongoing support! If you have any questions, please contact me 391.0596 or 560.9681.
