Bill… "Looking at the Face of Jesus" is our Lenten theme that challenges us to look for Jesus in our everyday life so that we may prepare for Jesus' resurrection on Easter Sun- day. We have many opportunities for spiritual renewal this Lent including our Lenten Mission which will focus particularly on Looking at Jesus in Scripture, the Sacra- ment of Reconciliation and in the Eucharist. The forty days of Lent begins with the imposition of ashes on Ash Wednesday. The ashes are from the burnt palms from past year's palms. "Repent and believe in the Gos- pel" or "Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return." reminds us of our sinfulness and mortality and the need to repent. The tradition of the 40 days of Lent goes back to the time Christ spent fasting and pray- ing in the desert after His baptism by John the Baptist. The season of Lent is marked by prayer, fasting, almsgiv- ing and devotions, each of which prepares us for the Easter season. We welcome and encourage everyone to use this 40-day period as a season of spiritual renewal. Please see our Lenten flier with our many opportunities for spiritual growth. May God bless you during the Lenten season and help us all to "Look at the Face of Jesus."

A Message from Fr. Bill…

"Looking at the Face of Jesus" is our Lenten theme that

challenges us to look for Jesus in our everyday life so that

we may prepare for Jesus' resurrection on Easter Sun-

day. We have many opportunities for spiritual renewal

this Lent including our Lenten Mission which will focus

particularly on Looking at Jesus in Scripture, the Sacra-

ment of Reconciliation and in the Eucharist.

The forty days of Lent begins with the imposition of ashes

on Ash Wednesday. The ashes are from the burnt palms

from past year's palms. "Repent and believe in the Gos-

pel" or "Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall

return." reminds us of our sinfulness and mortality and

the need to repent. The tradition of the 40 days of

Lent goes back to the time Christ spent fasting and pray-

ing in the desert after His baptism by John the Baptist.

The season of Lent is marked by prayer, fasting, almsgiv-

ing and devotions, each of which prepares us for the

Easter season. We welcome and encourage everyone to

use this 40-day period as a season of spiritual renewal.

Please see our Lenten flier with our many opportunities

for spiritual growth. May God bless you during the Lenten

season and help us all to "Look at the Face of Jesus."
