To facilitate easy access for all passengers to all trains, in accord with Operators wishes & upcoming European legislation, constructors now have to build low-floor trains so the floors are at platform height. All the equipment previously found under the floor now has to be put on the roof. This poses problems of available space and weight distribution.

Faiveley Transport engineers have perfected an ultra compact “All-in-One” system integrated to the pantograph, regrouping 4 functions (Overhead line voltage sensing - DC roof line switching and earthing - DC roof line over voltage protection - Energy Meter DEMETRA) thus freeing considerable space on the roof.

More than liberating now essential space on the roof, this light-weight, high performance system also opens the door to more economies: simplified installation, easier access for maintenance, less weight and optimised energy use…

After 20 years good service, it was time for renovation: change the seats, decoration and also bring all the equipment up to date – for the passenger (passenger information systems) and also the operator (door & platform surveillance, emergency intercom, CCTV for driver only operation). Modernised with a new lease of life; but the train had not originally been designed for any of this! One particular problem was the passage of new cables between the cars, especially at the automatic couplers which were not designed for fast, digital signals such as Ethernet 100M.

A fully IP (Video, Voice & Data) system along with JETSWITCH, a smart Ethernet switch & internet router, solved the problem, building a high speed backbone network on the train. The 2 Power Line Communication ports connect to the couplers, no new cables needed!

So, the train is now equipped with the full capacity and performance to be found on modern trains: maximum performance with minimum intervention.

ConTroLMetro car builders personalise versions of a generic platform for clients (seating, colours etc.) This also applies to equipment not normally visible to the public, such as event recorders. Economic pressures demand attention to every detail. But not every client has the same needs or requirements. The ideal for builders would be a scalable event recorder to satisfy the client’s requirements.

Faiveley Transport’s new TOM includes a specific modular range, perfectly adaptable to all the clients needs: IEEE1482.1 crashworthiness memory - Ethernet, MVB, Profibus interfaces - SIL4 Driver vigilance. Compact and reliable with extra capacity for future needs, why complicate if simplified solutions are available?
