With football comes hard work, wins, and losses, and Timber Creek football is no exception.
Comingoffthebyeweek,TimberCreekisonthelosingsideofthegridiron. The Falcons, half way through the season, have a record of 4-1 in non-district and 0-1 in district play. Some fans may be left wondering why Timber Creek has the second best overall record in their conference, but are placedfifthinthestandings.FansshouldlooknofurtherthanTimberCreek’sdistrict record.
Timber Creek is in Division 6A Region 1 District 3, with Fossil Ridge, Hal-tom, Keller, Abilene, Weatherford, and Keller Central. Games that the Falcons play against these schools are put in a separate record apart from the overall record. Wins and losses to district teams are pivotal in terms of the season, and playoffchances.

The Falcons will need to bounce back after the tough loss, as they pre-pare to begin the second half of the season, playing all district teams for the lastfivegamesoftheseason.
Timber Creek hopes to start the second half in winning fashion, as they attempt to take down an 0-6 Weatherford. The game starts at 7:30 p.m. at the KellerISD Stadium. Find the latest sports content on TimberCreekTalon.com

TIMBER CREEK FALCON FOOTBALL FRESHMEN GOLD TEAM
Since the beginning of summer, the cross country athletes have been waking up for morning practices, before the sun even rises, just in preparation for their early season. Junior Braden Lange is very familiar with these intense practices, and also just what it takes to fully commit yourself to distance run-ning. Lange and the rest of the Cross Country team competed in the Southlake Invitational, a 5k which takes place annually at the Bob Jones Park in South-lake, Texas.
At this meet, not only did Lange place seventh out of 295 runners in the 6A varsity boys race, but he also ran an impressive time of 15:35, which was his newest personal record. This was the third time running at this meet, so his past experience made the course seem much simpler, in comparison to that of freshman year. Maybe, after all, the third time really is a charm.
“TheSouthlakecourseisprettyflatandtheweatherwasinthemidsixtieswith no wind, so it was the perfect day to [personal record],” Lange said.
Being one of the top runners on the team, Lange knows importance of not only pushing his own physical and mental limits, but also supporting and to acting as a strong backbone for his teammates. When paying attention to the social environment of the cross country team, one take away that could be re-ceived by anyone watching is the great leadership all the runners show to one another. The large family-like support system within the cross country team is somethingthatmanyoftherunnersthriveoffof, includingLange.Althoughtherace times are personal to the runners, the runners continue to stand stronger together, always eager to lead.
“We’realwaysabletotopusheachothertofightthroughtheharderwork-outs, even when we ourselves feel like we need to drop out,” Lange said.
These leadership qualities that the cross country runners embody are essential to everyday practice, but are crucial in those times where a fellow teammate hits a road block. According to Lange, seeing the little improvements inpreviousmistakesisoneofthemainreasonstorun.Intheend,it’sjustall about overcoming those obstacles, which is what running is all about. The Southlake meet proved to be one of those obstacles.
“It’salwaysfrustratingwhenyourworkoutsaren’timprovingatall, butit’simportanttokeeppushingeachweek, andtofixthoselittlemistakes, evenwiththe help of teammates,” Lange said.
However,Langeshowedhecouldgetpastit.Onetoolthatisbeneficialwhen running in a race, he says, is a “race plan.” A “race plan” is just a men-talguidetonoteasyouruntokeepthedesiredpaceandtofinishwithanim-proved time. According to Lange, his race plan is to start out aggressively with the most elite runners, hold on with everything he can, and to speed up in the finalmile.Asaresult, hewasabletoblowhisoldpersonalrecordoutofthewater, which was just under 16 minutes.
Recently, Lange was also ranked the eighth fastest male runner in 6A Texas schools, but with the cross country meets usually only a week apart from each other, Lange has to stay on his A game. Lange hopes to run in college and to continue to drop his 5k time even more this year.
Langesaid,“Thesatisfactionofrunningiswhenyoufinisharaceandyoucanreallytellhowmuchtimeyou’vetakenofffromtheweekbefore,andhowmuchyou’veaccomplished.”

With the team 3-1 in their district, Timber Creek Tennis looks to have a strong restoftheirseason.Makingplayoffsforthefirsttimeintheschool’shistory,itisalsothefirstyearthattheteamhaseverwonthreeperfectdualmatches.ForCoachRoger Thomas, the team shows exceptional skill, not only supporting one another on thecourt, butoffaswell.
“We have a young team (only 5 seniors), with great team spirit,” said Thomas. “We are paired with district 4-6A and have already played Lamar, Martin, and Paschal, three potential opponents. Although we lost those three matches, they were very close, and we were missing some top players. I know that the kids will compete well against any opponent. All of [them] have risen to the occasion and pulled out the wins.”
Paired with district 4-6A and having already played against Lamar, Martin and Paschal High Schools, the team has learned how to adapt to the competition. Havingvarsitypracticefifthperiodonschoolsdaysduringtheheatofthedaywhileotherschoolstypicallyplayduringfirstperiod, theathleteshavelearnedtoadjusttoalmost anything.
“The kids are used to playing during the hottest time of the day [and practiced since the beginning of August],” Thomas said. “We have seen some players cramp up because they are not used to the afternoon playing conditions. We have [also] played more dual matches than in previous years. Playing a variety of teams has paidoffindistrictplay.Wegointoeverymatchbelievingthatwewillcompeteandwin.”
