WHAT WE’RE ALL ABOUTTwenty-one years ago, God called a group of Christ-followers to rise up and plant Bay Life Church. They built Bay Life on a foundation of authentic community, relevant worship, and most importantly, God’s grace.

Since then, God has blessed our efforts to share the Gospel of Jesus and disciple believers... Countless lives have been transformed, by God’s grace, through this church.

Simply put, Bay Life is a church that loves God and loves people. No matter your story, past, background, or where you are on your spiritual journey, we’re glad you’re here!

OUR MISSIONTo surrender to God as He makes disciples through us here and around the world.

OUR VALUESLove God, Love People.

We love God through worship, Word, prayer, and service. We love people through authenticity, community, unity, and intentionality.

WE’RE ALL ABOUT JESUSAt Bay Life, we’re all about Jesus — we believe that He is God, and we invite you to learn about how you can find forgiveness and new life in Him. We believe the only way to get to know Jesus is to understand what the Bible says about…

GodGod is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God.

Genesis 1:1, 26-27; Genesis 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Corinthians 13:14

ManMan is made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. He is the supreme object of God’s creation. Although man has tremendous potential for good, he is marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called “sin.” This attitude separates man from God.

Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6; Romans 3:23;Isaiah 59:1-2

EternityMan was created to exist forever. After death, one will either exist eternally united with God in Heaven, or exist eternally separated from God in Hell. The gift of eternal life is freely offered to every individual. Heaven and Hell are places of eternal existence.

John 3:16; John 2:25; John 5:11-13; Romans 6:23;Revelation 20:15; Matthew 18:8; Matthew 25:44

Jesus ChristJesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on the cross. He rose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven’s glory and will return again to Earth to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Matthew 1:22-23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5; John 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14-15; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Romans 1:3-4; Acts 1:9-11; Timothy 6:14-15; Titus 2:13

Page 5: Fall 2014 Guidebook

SalvationSalvation is a gift from God to man. Man can never make up for his sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can man be saved from sin’s penalty. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith.

Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 14:6; John 1:12; Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26; Romans 5:1

Eternal SecurityBecause God gives man eternal life through Jesus Christ, the believer can securely believe that salvation is for eternity. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by self-effort of the Christian. It is the grace and keeping power of God that gives this security.

John 10:28; Hebrews 7:25; Hebrews 10:10; 1 Peter 1:3-5

The Holy SpiritThe Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and Son of God. He is present in the world to make men and women aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. The Christian seeks daily to live under His control. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding spiritual truth, and guidance in providing ministry to other Christians and the world. The evidence that one is “filled with the Holy Spirit” is the fruit of the Spirit seen in godly character, not in the manifestation of any particular spiritual gift.

Regarding sign gifts, we believe all spiritual gifts are in use today. However, for the sake of unity, we ask that the gift of tongues not be used during corporate worship services.

2 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13; John 14:16-17; Acts 1:8;1 Corinthians 2:12; 1 Corinthians 3:16; Ephesians 1:13;Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 5:18

The BibleThe Bible is God’s Word to all people. It is written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. The Bible is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is truth without any mixture of error.

2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21; 2 Timothy 1:13; Psalm 119:10, 160; Psalm 12:6; Proverbs 30:5

MinistryThe Pastor and staff are given the responsibility to lead the church and to equip the membership for ministry. Each member has the responsibility to discover and employ his or her spiritual gifts in the life of the church. Every Christian needs to discover and be faithful in his or her ministry for Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 12:7; Ephesians 4:11-13; Hebrews 13:7; 1 Peter 4:10-11

WorshipThe Christian exists to minister to the world, to other Christians and especially to God through praise and worship. We exist for the praise of His glory. Worship is celebrative as well as reflective and inspirational.

Psalm 100; Ephesians 1:12; Psalm 63:3-4; Psalm 150;Psalm 126:2-3

Life StepsSundays Starting September 7 // 11am // Rm. 603

Getting back to the basics of Christianity is one of the best ways a believer can regain spiritual focus, and that’s our aim in Life Steps — to help you refocus on building an intimate relationship with Jesus.

We’ll share some of the most effective Bible study methods we know of, and also discuss the mission and vision of Bay Life Church in-depth. Register at baylife.org/LifeSteps.

Connect To ServeSundays Starting September 7 // 11am // Rm. 604

It’s our goal to get you in a place of ministry that lets you use the gifts God has given you to bless others! We want your heart to be jumping up and down yelling, “I was made for this!” Seriously!

In Connect To Serve — through personality and spiritual gifts assessments, scripture study, prayer, and personal reflection — we’ll help you figure out how you can live your life with true eternal purpose! Register at baylife.org/ConnectToServe.

Talking To GodSundays Starting September 7 // 11am // Rm. 606

Parent NightWednesday, October 1 // 7–8:30pm // Worship Center

it is critical for parents to be connected with their students and involved in their lives, so that they can challenge them to grow in their relationship with Christ. STUDENTS baylife.org/MiddleSchool // baylife.org/HighSchool

6TH–8TH GRADESundays // 9:30am // The LoftWednesdays // 6:30–8:30pm // The Loft

We want middle school students to own their faith and realize their relationship with Christ is no longer about what mom and dad believe, but instead it’s about what “I” believe. We motivate our middle schoolers to take personal responsibility for their spiritual health and growth, and to take the Great Commission seriously.

Each Sunday morning and Wednesday night, students experience a combination of worship, games, a challenging message, and small group interaction.

9TH–12TH GRADESundays // 11am // The LoftWednesdays // 6:30–8:30pm // The Loft

Now it’s time for students to live out their faith... It’s time for them to realize that having a personal relationship with Christ doesn’t mean keeping it to themselves.

We want our students out serving Him and serving others. The fact is, what your student does with these few years of high school could set the trajectory for the rest of their life. Let us help you guide your student in the way they should go!

10FAMILY MINISTRIES

Page 14: Fall 2014 Guidebook

IMPACTFridays // 8pm // Student Center

College is when students decide for themselves what’s important enough to devote their time to and what they’ll leave behind. For many, their faith is the first thing to go.

It’s usually not an intentional break, but rather a slow process brought about by the lack of community with other believers. Fellowship was much easier to come by in high school, surrounded by friends you’ve grown up with. But for many college students, when faced with new people and ideas that’re a part of the college experience, their faith in Jesus becomes “just a phase” they went through while they were young.

And that’s why there’s Impact. It’s here, together, that our young adults can figure out how to do this thing called “life” the right way. The satisfying way. God’s way. Our goal is to create and equip a community of believers ages 18-28 years old that’re devoted to fellowship and accountability, and are passionate about knowing and understanding God’s Word.

LIFE GROUPSbaylife.org/LifeGroups

Each week, hundreds of Lifers meet in small communities to learn about God, pray, eat, laugh, and live. We call these Life Groups. They’re at the heart of our church, and are arguably the best way here to form strong, lasting relationships with other followers of Christ.

Central to our Life Groups are three ideas: Care, grow, and serve. And just like a good family, the people in your Life Group will be there to rejoice with you in the good times, and support you through the difficult times.

Our Fall semester of Life Groups begins the week of September 2. Find a group that’s perfect for you at baylife.org/LifeGroups. You can sort them by day, location, and type.

MISSIONS baylife.org/Missions

Before Jesus ascended into Heaven, he said to his disciples, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)

That’s our template. We’re not just focusing on our own neighborhood, we’re looking beyond our borders too.And we’re moving from relief — meeting immediate needs — to restoration. We want to treat the problem, not just the symptoms, being intentional and seeing true life change.

The task can seem overwhelming, so we’ve narrowed our focus. We’re restoring...

• The hungry in our Jerusalem — Brandon, FL• The orphan in our Judea — the state of Florida• The powerless in our Samaria — the migrant community• And we train the leaders, our Ugandan partners — our

Single & ParentingSundays, September 7–December 21 // 11am // Rm. 604

There are unique challenges single parents face... Sometimes it’s all you can do to survive from one day to the next! If you’re a single parent, join us as we walk along the journey of single parenting together.

Untangling RelationshipsThursdays, September 4–December 8 // 7pm // The Loft

This group is designed to help you identify the painful effects of codependency, the compulsion to help everyone and fix everything. Learn Biblical guidance on how to break free of destructive relational patterns.

Register for any of these groups at baylife.org/Breakthrough.

PRAYERAt Bay Life, we believe prayer is powerful and effective! We know that we serve a God who listens when we pray (Psalm 4:1, John 14:13-14), and we’re committing to being a house of prayer (Isaiah 56:7, Matthew 21:13).

Prayer Partners + Prayer RoomIf you need prayer before, during, or after a weekend service, we have designated people ready to pray with you and for you. Just look for the Prayer Room sign at the back of the Worship Center and enter the Prayer Room through the glass-inset door.

[email protected] + baylife.org/PrayerAny time you need prayer, shoot an email to [email protected] or submit a prayer request at baylife.org/Prayer. There, you can also view prayer requests, indicate that you prayed for a specific request, share a request via social media, and send a note to the person who requested prayer.

PASTOR OF THE DAYIf you want to speak with a pastor about a spiritual need, our Pastor Of The Day is available to you 24/7/365. Contact him / her at 813.494.4707.
