Falcon Campus, room 100

2. Financial Aid Besides military Tuition Assistance (TA), you may be eligible for additional financial aid to

defray some of the costs that are not covered by TA, such as textbooks. Getting help is easier

than you think. The key is to get your paperwork in early. All it takes to apply for financial aid,

including grants, loans, scholarships and student staff programs, is a single application form. The

earlier you get your application in, the better your chances to be considered for all available

sources of financial assistance. Get started today by connecting to our Financial Aid website. For

more information, contact a Financial Aid Advisor at 719.502.3000 or 1.866.411.7722.

3. Placement Testing This is the one test everybody aces. It's a quick evaluation of your basic skills in reading, English

and math that helps your advisor, and you, know where your college education should start. If

you have ACT or SAT scores, or if you have taken college classes before, you may not need a

placement test. But to be on the safe side, contact the Military Programs advisor at 719.502.4100,

1.888.645.7764. We offer placement testing at the military education centers as well as on

campus, for hours of operation, please give us a call or check out our site locations pages at

www.ppcc.edu/military.

4. In-State Residency

Active duty service members and their family members who are not Colorado

residents can receive instate tuition rates after providing a copy of their valid military ID

to any of the Enrollment Services Offices or Military and Veterans Programs Offices.

Instate rates will be applied for all semesters until the ID expiration date. Service

members who are TDY or deployed from a Colorado military installation should send an

email to [email protected] for assistance. All Active Duty who submit a copy of

their Military ID prior to the census (drop) date of the term will not be dropped for

non-payment.

Veterans and their family members who are not Colorado residents may qualify for

one year of in-state residency after separation. If you have a Colorado driver’s license,

the State of Colorado has put legislation in place that grants Honorably Discharged

Schedule Preface

veterans and their family members one year of in-state tuition after separation from

service. To obtain an application form, contact us at 719.502.4100, email us at

[email protected], or stop by our offices on Centennial Campus in room C222.

5. Apply for the College Opportunity Fund Active duty service members, veterans, and their family members residing in Colorado must

apply for the College Opportunity Fund (COF). This is a stipend from the State of Colorado that

lowers your tuition rate to the category “Resident with COF.” When completing your college

application, say “YES” to the question asking you to authorize PPCC to apply on your behalf. If

you did not do so, apply online at https://cof.college-assist.org/ . Important—if you are using

Tuition Assistance and fail to apply for COF, TA will only pay the RESIDENT with COF rate.

[TA will pay up to $250 per credit hour if you do not qualify for COF].

6. Advising We can help you figure out your education and career goals, map them to the PPCC academic

plan that fits you best, and help you choose your classes. Contact our military and veteran

advisors to set up an appointment by calling 719.502.4100 or toll-free 1.888.645.7764, or by

email at [email protected] for active duty and their family members or [email protected] for

veterans and their family members. If you have credits you will be transferring to PPCC, or if

you have military experience that you would like evaluated for credit towards your degree, just

download a Transcript Request Form, fill it out, and send it to your prior college(s). Once you

have completed six credit hours at PPCC, you may contact Rich Rayborn, our SOC/Credit for

Prior Learning Evaluator, who will evaluate your military work experience, complete your

Student Agreement and get you on your way to degree completion.

7. Registration and Tuition Assistance Your application is in, you’ve completed your placement test, and you’ve spoken to an advisor –

what’s next? Registration! Here’s where you register for classes, set your schedule, and apply for

Tuition Assistance or veterans benefits.

All students using Veterans Benefits must submit a copy of their class schedule to the Military

and Veterans Programs office, room C222, on the Centennial Campus. This is a mandatory step

for VA funding certification. PPCC’s Certifying Official must receive a copy of your class

schedule prior to you being certified as eligible for benefits. You may fax (719.502.4101) or

email a copy of your schedule ([email protected]). Be sure to include your student number on your

schedule. Students who have submitted copies of their class schedules, along with all other

required paperwork for eligibility, will not be dropped for non-payment.

Additional Information Concerning VA Tuition Payment:

In order to efficiently process your VA paperwork, our VA office will submit your class

schedule with zero tuition and fees. This is to ensure that beneficiaries who qualify for BAH or

monthly payments (depending on chapter) will receive them in a timely manner. Once the drop

period has ended, your schedule will be submitted to the federal VA benefits processing office

complete with tuition and fees and the VA will determine, based on chapter, how tuition and fees

will be paid. Please check with us if you have any questions.
