Beginning the Conversation Talking about end of life issues is a subject most people want to avoid. Though we plan in great detail for so many life events, weddings, childbirth, college and retirement, rarely do we want to talk with family and friends about how we want to be cared for at the end of life. Often we wait until a crisis hits to make these decisions when decision making is the most difficult. Today, rather than looking at death as an inevitable part of life, the current culture still has a death defying attitude. But there are worse things than dying and that is dying badly. Through group discussion and sharing personal experiences this workshop will cover our views on death and dying and how those views have been influenced over the years by family, friends and current culture. We will discuss views on decision making, beginning the conversation of your final wishes with family and friends, advance directives, living wills, durable power of attorney for health care, do not resuscitate orders, organ donation, POLST (Physician Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment), creating a circle of care, hospice and palliative care. Resources will be provided. 2 Sessions.10/11/16 Tuesdays 6:00pm-8:00pm with trained hospice volunteers Sue Davis and Linda Smith at ACE Room 6Registration Fee: $10
