Momentum is a powerful force. It swings from one team to another during an athletic contest, and it also plays a key role in the life of an organization. At San Jose Christian School, recent investments in our

staff and our students are building a noticeable momentum throughout our school community, and now is not the time to let up! We want to

continue to make improvements; continue to attract, develop, and retain high quality teachers; and continue to provide support for families who

cannot afford the full cost of attendance.

Your gift to the annual financial drive maintains our momentum. It

prevents cuts to our programs. It means that our teachers will keep growing and delivering life-changing Christian education to our

students. Your gift turns a spark into a warm and nourishing fire. It fans the flame.

Teacher ImprovementFan the Flame gifts support our teacher improvement program. This year, the SJCS faculty are focusing on two specific areas of their craft:

Faith Integration: In addition to distinctive class content, teachers at SJCS are challenging themselves to consider how their actual pedagogy should

bear witness to Christ. Are there Christian ways to arrange our rooms, lead discussions, test for understanding, and encourage each other through triumph and failure? The answers to such questions touch something deep in the souls of those called to work with our children, and we want to bless their efforts.

Technology Integration: In our quest to provide relevant, 21st Century education for our students, the teachers at SJCS are working hard to employ the technology we have on campus to its fullest potential. That means learning to approach learning in a fundamentally different way—a

way that engages students in the kind of thinking, research, and creativity demanded by the world they live in. Integrating technology is not just about buying new equipment; it is about people. Training, support, and accountability for our staff will spark new enthusiasm from faculty and students alike.

To make these initiatives possible, SJCS has made significant monetary investments in:

•Training for mentor teachers.•A campus substitute who provides release time for peer observation

and evaluation.•Continuing education for all of our staff that encourages their

professional growth.

The resulting culture of improvement attracts high-quality teachers to

our school, builds their skills while they are here, and keeps them employed at SJCS for years to come. You can help our teachers grow. You can fan this flame!

Tuition Assistance

Not all families can afford the full cost of tuition at SJCS. We believe the work

of Christian education falls on us as a community of

believers, so our school commits to providing monetary assistance that

bridges the gap for parents of verified need. Your gift ensures that their children can continue to grow in knowledge, in skills, and in faith.

There is no greater treasure, and we must fan this flame!

School Improvement

A excellent school must maintain its strength by keeping up its facilities, adding improvements where needed, and seeking out the

kind of curriculum that will meet the needs of our students and faculty. Fan the Flame gifts afford us the opportunity to be bold about our

vision and follow the path of improvement without having to pass on all of those costs to our families in the form of tuition increases. The administration and trustees are excited to pursue God’s leading, and a

bright future is in sight. We need to fan this flame!

Why Give?

1) To declare that our blessings, our money, and our talents are not our own but come from the Lord.

2) To recognize Christ’s Lordship over our possessions.

3) To bless the recipients of our gifts and transform ourselves in a tangible act of worship and sacrifice.

4) To put God first in our lives. Setting aside our monetary first fruits brings us that perspective.

5) To fill ourselves with the kind of lasting joy that can only be found in

Christ.

How Can You Give? There are many ways to contribute to Fan the Flame, and the SJCS

Drive coordinators would be happy to answer any of your questions.

• Cash - Write a check for an amount that is significant to you or donate on the school website.

• Pledges - Make your gift payable by June 2013, either as a lump sum or in installments.

• Stock - Donated stock is immediately sold with the proceeds going directly to the Drive. This can be a great option for recipients of stock bonuses or for those looking to sell stock at a loss for tax

purposes.• Life Insurance - These gifts can greatly reduce the donor’s taxable

estate while providing immense support for SJCS.• Mandatory IRA Distributions - Parents or Grandparents can keep

their mandatory distributions tax free by donating them to SJCS.

• Real Estate or Other Assets - Land, homes, cars, boats, or other assets

can be a great way to boost the success of the Drive.• Matching Gifts - Let us know if your employer offers matching gifts,

and we will follow up for you.

“Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you

will not have room enough for it.” - Malachi 3:10
