The first thing to say is that the Great Hall is back up and running – complete with studio space, control room, new heating and lighting equipment. It doesn’t mean we have finished, rather that we have completed the latest stage in a 40 year adventure to make the most of these buildings. We are hugely proud of what we have achieved. All credit to the entire staff team for making it happen on time and within budget. We have also managed to refurbish the main toilets. And already there are plans to sound proof the Tindle studio, open up the coach house at the museum and develop our partnership with the University.

This is all said in the context of the huge challenges being placed on public investment from local and central government. We need to find different ways of operating, improve our usefulness, extend our reach and change the perceived value of the work we do. Which is why it is important that we constantly invest in the buildings, improve our services and remain confident in the value of what we do. If you have an idea or want to share a thought please get in touch.

This symbol highlights events that are part of the Arts & Elders programme. Some of these activities are hosted in partnership with other local organisations, and are programmed to better welcome elders and those with dementia into our building. The FSO welcomes soloists Francesca Barritt and Morwenna Del Mar who will perform Brahms Double Concerto for Violin and Cello in A Minor. The concert will open with Cherubini’s Medea Overture. Beethoven’s Symphony No.3 ‘Eroica’ will bring the FSO’s first concert of 2016 to a close.

Weave Your Own Chicken WORKSHOP


Spend a fun day learning the art of willow sculpture with local basket maker, Judith Needham, and take home a life-sized chicken to enhance your garden this spring. Ducks, geese and quail are also possible – or experiment with abstract sculpture if you prefer. For ages 14+.

Leathercrafts – Suede Day WORKSHOP


In this leathercraft workshop discover the properties of suede and learn to create some small accessories such as a coin pouch, glasses case or phone sleeve. Bring an apron please. All materials provided.

Introduction to Relief Printing Workshop WORKSHOP


This workshop will explore relief printing with a press onto paper. You will look at some example work, showing you how to prepare your image, cutting the lino or wood, applying ink and most importantly getting printing! Each technique will be clearly explained and demonstrated followed by plenty of time to experiment.

Young Portrait Artist Award Submission Deadline EXHIBITION

Fairport Convention Wintour 2016 MUSIC

Learn how to appliqué fabrics using the sewing machine and by hand. Make 3D flowers to create this pretty blossom cushion design. Leathercraft – Embossing for the Beginner WORKSHOP

Back in 1976 two members of Farnham Lions, who were also members of CAMRA, had the great idea of running a one-off beer festival. With the equally enthusiastic support of the Farnham Maltings the three organisations delivered the first ‘Beerex’ in 1977 and have done so every year since.

Today it is still organised by the same three groups along with over 250 volunteers and lays claim to being the longest running beer festival at the same venue. To date over £750,000 has been raised and distributed by the Farnham Lions to very many good causes and individuals in need of support.

Farnham Maltings was run as a brewery for 229 years and we continue to mark this history throughout the building in rooms such as the Barley Room and the Long Kiln Gallery. It is an honour to host Farnham’s Beerex on this momentous anniversary which continues to celebrate the rich heritage of hop growing and beer production which is key to the history of the town and this building.

This year’s festival takes place on Thu 21 to Sat 23 April and tickets will be on general sale at the Maltings from 8.30am on Sun 28 February. Gift vouchers for Thursday session on sale now from farnhammaltings.com

Farnham Remembers: Two Minutes of Silence EXHIBITION

In 2016 the Museum will be commemorating the centenary of the first two minutes silence, held in Castle Street in May 1916. Over the Top Youth Theatre is a fun drama group for 8–13yrs. The group meets on Monday evenings at Broadwater Park Community Centre in Godalming. Hiring space

This unique building has a variety of different spaces for hire with capacities ranging from 15–500. We can offer ideal accommodation for parties, conferences, workshops and performances. Visual Story

Available on our website and at the box office, we have a Visual Story which aims to support children, young people and adults with autism, communication difficulties, and other learning disabilities. It can be used to help them better access and understand their experience in the building.

Disabled access

The Great Hall, Cellar Bar, Barley Room, Tindle Studio, Tannery and Café Bar are fully accessible to wheelchair users via the lift and the Great Hall can accommodate up to five wheelchairs. There is a fully accessible toilet and four dedicated parking spaces. Assistance Dogs (UK) are welcome. If you require assistance to enter and leave the building please bring an able-bodied companion, who will be entitled to a complimentary ticket (subject to availability). If you require an induction loop system, or have any other requirements, please inform the box office at the time of booking so we can make your visit more enjoyable.

Farnham Maltings works with south east based artists and companies to help make the best work possible. In support of craft and fine artists we manage a range of studio spaces and offer training and networking opportunities. Producing and commissioning

We work with a number of companies and individual artists in the production of their work, sometimes as a collaboration or in co-production.

Touring

We tour our own work and that of our associate companies, support a network of rural venues across Surrey and are continuing to build relationships with small scale theatres and art centres.
