Letter from the PublisherHey everyone! November is upon us and the

weather is starting to turn cold. Now would be a good time for everyone to get the stuff done on your bike that needs to be done while there is still some good riding weather left. Well, that is, instead of taking care of instead of waiting for the week before bike week. But some things never change, it’s just a thought.

The last two major rally’s, Sturgis and Daytona Biketoberfest, both reported record attendance. That’s a good sign and it shows things are starting to take a turn for the better in the motorcycle industry. Let’s just keep our fingers crossed.

We are working on Atlantic City Bike Week, the dates will be May 19th to 23rd. We are also working on getting the approval for Seaside Bike Week for the last weekend in September. We’ll have more information on both events next issue.

TRICK OR TREATWell for sure 2010 is more of a treat than trick. If you’ve been keeping up with us you know that despite a negative forecast for the industry things have been going well. Rally attendance is up and so are vendor sales. The only real effect on the biz is that a whole lot of fast money guys are now selling forecloses, ya know the next “big craz” The point is simply that many wanna get rich quick guys have been weeded out and the core enthusiasts continue to Live to Ride and Ride to Live (A little corny but true). That speaks volumes about our culture.

This month was a challenge to write something new so here is a personally story. For the past ten months the Strip Club Choppers freightliner has been touring around the country with out incident. On the way to Biketoberfest in Daytona some rest was needed so our tour manager

Paul Fabiano drove the truck, yes Paulie is back where he belongs after sorting out some pressing family issues and we are glad to have him.

Not handling the 48 foot rig for a while Paul miscalculated the clearance when pulling into our vending space and opppps. The top corner of the truck was ripped open and of course it was the day we had to set up. Needless to say Paul was extremely upset by the incident and immediately offered to resign from the company. There was no chance that we were going to let that happen! After only 24 hours, several phone calls and a little ingenuity the rig was all fixed up, as you might have noticed, or not noticed if you came by during Biketoberfest.

Not necessarily a riveting story, although rivets were involved at one point. So now your asking what the hell does the beginning of this freaking article and the story about the truck have to do with each other? Well now that you ask here it is: The brother hood between bikers goes much deeper than a few dollars, when push comes to shove we all pull together to help one another, it’s a common bond. The fast-talking “let’s get rich and build a chopper” guys never understood this hence the absence of the once Disneyworld like atmosphere that infiltrated our counter culture lifestyle a few years ago.

The moral of this little tale: Stick to your passion and if your passion is the American motorcycle culture know that your fellow diehard bikers will always have your back.

HORSEPOWER RALLYAT THE SHOWBOAT RESORT & CASINOEarly last month the Show Boat Resort and Casino in Atlantic City hosted The First Annual Horsepower Rally. This event was held in the parking lot directly in front of the Showboat Casino and had something for ev-eryone... Hot Rod cars to hot bikes, great bands and beautiful women.

The weather was as close to perfect as it could have been that day and they had a great turnout for their first rally. Everyone strolled around checking out the custom cars and bikes, watching the bands up on the main stage and shopping the vendors. They also had a few companies like Jim Beam, Crystal Head Vodka, Sailor Jerry Rum, and Chronic Cellars Wine giving out samples to anyone who was interested in giving them try.

When it was all said and done, the day seemed to go way too fast so we headed upstairs to the foundation room for dinner and drinks. We want to thank Show Boat for having us and showing us a great time. Hope to see you all next year when the Horsepower Rally returns to Atlantic City.

SEASIDE BIKE WEEKSeaside Bike Week was held the third week in September and was run in conjunction with the New Jersey State HOG Rally which also made it’s first appearance in Seaside. Also, to com-pliment both events, Seaside held their annual Q by the Sea BBQ Festival.

The weather that weekend was perfect for riding with sum-mer over, folks heading back to work, and kids being back in school. We got off to a slow start on Thursday, then into early Friday bikes started too roll into town. A few of the bars in town booked bands like the Razorbacks, Boot Hill Express and a few other biker favorites to keep everyone entertained. Hemingways had a Motorcycle Art Expo and the Marine Corp tribute bike on display.

This year the vendors were set up by the American Legion on Bay Avenue to the left as you enter town. It was kinda out of the way and for next year we have decided to move things more towards the middle of town, closer to the boardwalk. Also, to make it even more of an event, adding jump bikes, stunt rid-ers, and we’re working on some other things to keep everyone entertained all day. If all goes well the next few weeks we will have the all permits and the dates for next year’s event. That should be plenty of time to get more local businesses involved and plan some different activities and entertainment. So see you all next year!

Story of the bike build, who, how, when, where, why, and things that will make a good story . . . (SOMETHING INTERESTING) Early in 2010 Doug Keim from Creative Cycles, Inc in Wall, New Jersey was contacted by David Zuckerburg from RIDES / XXL Magazines regarding several bikes they wanted to build in conjunction with Harley-Davidson Motor Co.. After lots of talk and face to face meetings the deal was done. Doug then spent time focusing on ‘what the bike’ needed to be to please all those involved. Time was then spent on the phone with the person that the bike was to be built for. That person is none other than Mr. Pharrell Williams of music industry fame as well as being the founder of Billionaire Boys Club / Ice Cream Brand Clothing. Doug asked question after question, attempting to find out what Pharrell liked and what he didn’t like. After careful consideration to all of the fact finding, he then spent a ton of time searching the H-D accessory catalog along with and several aftermarket parts catalogs to come up with ‘just the right’ group of parts and accessories for this build. As you can see, the result of all this effort is a Harley-Davidson “Cross-Bones” like no other. The concept behind the bike was to come up with a modern high tech Harley that still reflects on the early days of Harley-Davidson, as well as the early days of our great country and the struggles we faced. It was decided to build a bike that was U.S. Military in color and feel, with a combination of vintage and current styling. In looking over the bike, I think they got it right. So how did Doug, Chris and the Creative Cycles crew get to this point, well it wasn’t just a ‘bolt together’ project. Looking over the bike, the first thing that you notice is those huge 23 inch wheels and tires, and I’m betting that you think they just bolted on. NOPE! From the factory the bike is fitted with 16 inch tires and wheels. To get that 23 inch wheel and Avon Tyre to fit in the factory swing arm, Creative Cycles had to notch the cross tubes in the swing arm, and then come up with a way to reinforce the swing arm in the areas that had been modified, and still make it look like factory H-D. Well the resulting work has proved to be just that. If you hadn’t been told that the swing arm had been modified, you wouldn’t know it. Not only was the swing arm modified, but all of the electronics that normally sit on the top front of the rear fender had to be relocated, as well as a fair amount of the electronics that normally reside in front of the rear tire. So now ask yourself, why is there a Harley-Davidson accessory tool box mounted on the left side of that bike? Umm… could it be that the ECM now lives in there, safe under lock and key. Once all the fabrication work was done and those BIG 23’s where in place, the ride height of the bike now had to be addressed. Again, the stock bike was wearing 16 inch wheels and rubber; it was now wearing 23 inch Avon’s. So it became necessary to lower the bike a bit to get it back down to a more normal ride height. However it was decided to keep it a little bit higher than it was in stock configuration. After all, those early military use motorcycles faced all kinds of terrain, so a small amount of extra ground clearance was intentionally built into this bike. The front of the bike was lowered 1.5 inches and the rear was lowered 2 inches. In addition to lowering the

bike, the headlight was also repositioned to now mount on the bottom of the front shock, instead of the top, which also lends itself to a cleaner more flowing appearance. Moving around the bike; you will notice small things like the handlebars. The handlebars are H-D accessory ‘Beach Bars’ that have been shortened up 4 inches. Doug and Chris felt the bars needed to be a bit shorter to lend better to the vintage look. The bars have been finished off with a set of Creative Cycles knurled ‘The Grip’ hand grips with a set of one off end caps. To help feed air to the deep breathing H- D Big Twin, a billet RSD air cleaner was installed. Doug had Chip over at APW paint the screen in the face of the air cleaner to match the light green found elsewhere on the bike. The exhaust was a whole ‘nother matter. Doug wanted something that was high performance in appearance. So to the ‘fab bench’ Doug went, to build the pipes you now see on the bike. They feature 1 ¾ inch headpipes, that step up to 2 inch then to 2 ¼ inches. They feature internal anti-reversion devices and 6” baffles. The package was then treated to a high temp wrapping to keep the gases expanded, thus moving them at a greater velocity to further improve performance. To make all this work an Accel SLM auto tune fuel injection tuner was used, and as we can attest to, this bike is a runner. Another item on the bike worth mentioning is the hand crafted rear fender which started life as a flat piece of steel. It is hung using to very slick set of ‘floating’ links which allow the rear fender to be repositioned. This allows the gap to be adjusted between the tire and the fender whenever chain tensioning is necessary. Other items worth mentioning are the stainless steel side panels, the hand made rear signal lamp mounts, the gorgeous side mounted tail lamp and license plate, the tucked in front turn signals, the awesome hand made seat pan, seat mounts and seat cover, of which is actually a Billionaire Boys Club Clothing Camo pattern. This is all topped off with a fantastic ‘weathered’ paint scheme applied by Chip from Aggressive Paint Works in Freehold, NJ. Chip and Doug got together and talked over the ideas Pharrell had for the ‘look’ of the paint. They took all their individual ideas and put them all together. The result was an Olive Green which was taken from the strapping found on a BBC Camo back pack. As mentioned previously, the seat cover is actually a BBC Camo jacket that was pulled apart to make a seat cover. The different shades of green found in the seat cover can be found in other areas of the bike as offsetting and contrasting colors. All in all… this is one bad “Cross-Bones”.

VINTAGE BIKES... SCREW ALL THAT NEW CHOPPER CRAP!! YOU KNOW, the craze now is everybody has to have a chopper, or the next new thing, a bobber. I am sorry, and I hate to have to say this, but more than half of the guys that are buying this new old school stuff wouldn’t know a chopper or a bobber if it ran them over. What I really mean is, no sense of being polite, sorry….THEY DON’T KNOW SHIT. Half of these clowns weren’t around when that was happening, they don’t have a clue. The late 60`s and seventies, it was still going on, but it started before that, and became out of style when the full custom thing came around, and there is the TV thing also. Don’t get me started on that whole thing. Been doing this bike thing since the mid sixties, and have seen the whole bike world change, and all for the good I have to say. But give it a f##$%&’ rest already!!!!! Okay, okay, sorry about that, got a little ahead of myself. So, anywho, we have another cool project we are starting on. A 54 or so BSA a-10, in a hard tail frame, and a lot of cool ideas happening on this thing. The owner has thought it out. He has been trying to get this bike built for a year or two and basically got nowhere. Some work was started, never fi nished, not done well at all, and the usual. So the bike comes in and, as soon as I saw it, I knew it had tremendous potential. The ideas this guy has puts this bike right out of the sixties, if it all comes together properly. The basic idea is tru old school with old stuff. Foot clutch, jockey shift, short rear fender, and no fender up front.

The rest, well to put it mildly, needs some regrouping of sorts. So this is going to be a job that will take time and use all that stuff tucked away in the back of my noggin to put it all tighter and come out looking like it should. See, you can’t buy this kind of bike, unless someone builds it and sells it, you know what I mean. This guy put time and effort into this idea he had. He didn’t go to a dealer and plunk down a chunk of money and fi nance the rest, as is the popular thing to do anymore. So after talking to TANK for a while, got the drift as to what he wants, we went to work. Gotta make all the clutch and brake controls for this, and keep his fl oorboards. Gotta make the rear fender straight in the frame, battery box, and all the usual things that make it work. I am just getting started on this project, and the season is upon us, but it will get done this summer. I just thought this is cool and you guys would like to see something different in the making. Grilled Veggie’s Submitted by: Mattie Jones, NY

Ingredients:3 tbsp. olive oil2 garlic cloves, crushed1 1/2 tsp. chopped fresh thyme or 1 tsp. dried, crumbled1 1/2 tsp. chopped fresh sage or 1 tsp. dried rubbed sage1 1/2 tsp. chopped fresh rosemary or 1 tsp. dried, crumbled2 sm. eggplants, halved lengthwise2 sm. zucchini, halved lengthwise2 sm. yellow crookneck squash, halved lengthwise4 (1/2 inch thick) slices red onion Directions: Combine first 5 ingredients in small bowl. Place vegetables in baking pan and brush with oil mixture. Let marinate 2 hours, refrigerated - overnight is better. Prepare barbecue (medium high heat). Season vegetables with salt and pepper. Grill until just tender when pierced with tip of sharp knife, turning occasionally, about 8 minutes. Transfer vegetables to platter and serve warm or at room temperature.

Ingredients1 lime, juiced1 tablespoon minced garlic1 teaspoon dried oregano1 teaspoon ground cumin2 tablespoons finely chopped canned chipotle peppers in adobo sauceadobo sauce from canned chipotle peppers to taste4 (8 ounce) beef sirloin steakssalt and pepper to taste

Directions: In a small bowl, mix the lime juice, garlic, oregano, and cumin. Stir in chipotle peppers, and season to taste with adobo sauce. Pierce the meat on both sides with a sharp knife, sprinkle with salt and pepper, and place in a glass dish. Pour lime and chipotle sauce over meat, and turn to coat. Cover, and marinate in the refrigerator for 1 to 2 hours. Preheat grill for high heat. Lightly brush grill grate with oil. Place steaks on the grill, and discard marinade. Grill steaks for 6 minutes per side, or to

Ingredients1/2 cup butter2 teaspoons garlic powder4 cloves garlic, minced4 pounds beef top sirloin steaksSalt and pepper to taste Directions: Preheat an outdoor grill for high heat. In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium-low heat with garlic powder and minced garlic. Set aside. Sprinkle both sides of each steak with salt and pepper. Grill steaks 4 to 5 minutes per side, or to desired doneness. When done, transfer to warmed plates. Brush tops liberally with garlic butter, and allow to rest for 2 to 3 minutes before serving.

Grilled Deer Burgers Submitted by: wildwillie, NJ.

Ingredients:1 pound ground venison1 pound fatty ground beef1/4 cup bread crumbs1 whole egg2 tablespoons of finely chopped red onion1 tablespoon of finely chopped green pepper2 teaspoons salt1 teaspoon black pepper1 teaspoon paprika1 teaspoon liquid smoke1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper Directions: Combine all of the ingredients, mixing will. Form into patties and grill over medium high heat for 4 to 6 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature of the venison burgers reaches 160F. Try this. A couple of minutes before removing the burgers from the grill, put slices of smoky provolone cheese on top. Then slap ‘em into the hamburger buns and enjoy! Have plenty of fixings on hand for the burgers...sliced onions, dill pickles, lettuce, ketchup and mustard, jalapeno slices. And some cold ice tea to wash it all down.

The Sweet Lane:Desserts from Melody: Melody’s Raspberry Lemon Pie6 servings Ingredients:1 cup granulated sugar1/4 cup cornstarch1-1/4 cups milk4 Large Egg Yolks1/4 cup unsalted butter1 tsp. grated lemon peel1/3 cup lemon juice8 oz. sour cream1 9-inch deep dish pie shell, baked1 cup fresh raspberries Directions: Combine sugar and cornstarch in saucepan. Add milk, egg yolks, butter and lemon peel. Cook, stirring over medium heat until thickened. Continue cooking about 1 minute more. Remove from heat and stir in lemon juice. Refrigerate until cool. Stir in sour cream. Pour into pastry shell. Cover and chill at least 4 hours. Garnish with raspberries just before serving.

DELMARVA BIKE WEEKWow! What a crazy month! Yet another bike week. I went to Delmarva Bike Week this year with Lauren and Brittany need I say more? The weather

was perfect and we enjoyed every minute of it. One of the reasons I love to go to Delmarva is to see Matt, Tracey and the crew from CTM Custom Cycles and, as always, making new friends.

Delmarva has so much going on and is spread out all over. No matter where you stay, something is bound to be going on. We actually stayed a block away from a new hot spot called Dead Freddie’s. Fastlane Biker of Delmarva had lot’s going on there. They had vendors set up in the lot, great food, bands, contests and activities. We would start our night out at Dead Freddie’s with a little dinner, enjoying the music, watching contests and, of course, drinking. Thanks to Lauren for winning the “Cougar Contest” we had some extra drinkin’ money.

So we spent our days going to see the vendors and friends at Winter Park and then hitting up a couple of other places where they had some action going on. I will say that you’ve got to go next year if you haven’t already been there. Make sure you check out all the cool places. Some of my sugges-tions are Dead Freddies and another local hot spot called Seacrets. Hey, maybe I’ll see ya there next year. I wanted to give a shout out to my boy Lutz... Thanks for everything and thanks for getting us a ride. Always great to see you.
