London, UKLondon is one of the world’s most exciting cities. City, University of London’s central yet quiet location means our students benefit from all that the city has to offer.

Named the best city worldwide in which to study by QS Best Student Cities 2018, London is described as “a nerve-centre of global academia”. But it’s not just all work and no play. However you like to spend your free time, life at City offers a huge range of opportunities for international students.

Diverse LondonLondon is enormously diverse, with over 2.8 million foreign-born inhabitants from 270 countries speaking over 300 languages. That’s around a third of the total population, more than any other world metropolis. At City we celebrate diversity where all people, cultures, ideas and beliefs are valued. This vibrancy of cultures provides students with never-ending opportunities for inspiration and new experiences.

Historical LondonLondon is a city of amazing experiences old and new. From ancient history and Shakespeare through to modern science and the London Eye, there is something for everyone. London’s history stretches back

thousands of years and is part of the fabric of our university. London is also home to four UNESCO World Heritage sites, including the Tower of London, which dates back to the reign of William the Conqueror.

Cultural LondonLondon is a city of discovery that surprises at every turn. So whether you are fascinated by art, theatre, music, design or dance, you will find yourself at the heart of the action. The University’s central location means that leading galleries, the theatre district in the West End and the music hubs of Camden and Shoreditch are all within easy reach.

Green LondonLondon has over 3,000 parks and open spaces, making it one of the greenest capitals in the world. Try the outdoor sports areas and open air theatre at Regent’s Park, row a boat on the Serpentine Lake in Hyde Park, or enjoy one of the best views of London from Parliament Hill on Hampstead Heath – it’s easy to leave behind the hustle and bustle and enjoy a picnic or afternoon of studying in the fresh air.

Opportunity LondonLondon is a place where everyone can pursue their dreams. London’s open,

dynamic and free-thinking culture gives you the chance to be who you want to be. What’s more, our enviable central location is a major international hub for a wide range of industries – including finance, creative and media – providing access and opportunities for you to expand your professional networks.

Travel in LondonCity is located in Islington with excellent transport links, with rail and underground stations close by and the option of walking to many of London’s attractions. London is also the gateway to the rest of the UK, Europe and the world, providing international students with opportunities to explore and discover further afield.

Free LondonLondon has a reputation for being an expensive city and yet no other city in the world can offer such a range of free activities. Many museums and galleries are free to enter and there are often free activities taking place in London at the weekend, from Notting Hill Carnival to Chinese New Year and Eid celebrations.

Accommodation in the UKAll students can choose to live in one of City’s modern and centrally located halls of residence. Moving to a big city can seem intimidating but it’s much easier if you have arranged somewhere to live that is comfortable and close to other students. City offers a range of accommodation, including contemporary and newly refurbished halls of residence a short walk from the main City buildings, as well as private accommodation. All prospective full-time students can apply for a place in the halls of residence and City guarantees one to all first-year undergraduates who accept a place at City before the accommodation deadline. Whether you want to live in halls or privately rented housing, City's Student Centre’s Accommodation team can help.

Halls of residenceLiving with other students provides a great opportunity to meet new people from different courses and backgrounds. City has self-catered halls of residence located only a short walk from the main City buildings. Each with a team of management staff, halls have private, modern study bedrooms and communal living spaces where you can cook, relax and feel at home. If you do not want a place in halls, the University of London Private Housing Services can provide information to help you find accommodation in the private sector. Ideally you would need to view private housing prior to booking it. July and August are the best times to find private accommodation in London for the following academic year. Costs of private accommodation in central London can be expensive. Keep in mind that your heating, electricity and hot water expenses will probably not be included as part of your rent and you will also have to pay a refundable deposit. It may be less expensive to live further away, but this will mean you will have travel costs. For an idea of what you may have to pay and a private housing guide, visit: www.housing.london. ac.uk/housing-guide

University of London Housing ServicesCity students have full access to Private Housing Advisors, legal housing advice, a contract checking service and various housing events held throughout the year.
