There will be another church work day on Saturday, May 30th
to hopefully finish up the projects that remain from our first
work day. Bring any tools or equipment you may have: hedge
trimmers, clippers, pressure washers, etc. for outside; cleaning
supplies for the inside. We will begin at 8:30 am. We need
men, women and youth to help and any amount of time will
be a blessing! Saturday, May 30, 2015 at 8:30 a.m.

In 2001, Kyle Idleman wrote a book, Not a Fan. The blurb on the back of the book says this:
“Are you a fan or a follower? The dictionary defines a fan as ‘an enthusiastic admirer.’ Fans
want to be close enough to Jesus to get all the benefits, but not so close that it requires sacri-
fice. Fans may be fine with repeating a prayer, attending church on the weekend, and slapping a
Jesus fish on their bumpers. But is that really the extent of the relationship Jesus wants? Jesus
was never interested in having admirers. It’s not fans he is looking for.”
Here are some questions he asks in his book.
Decision or Commitment? Does Jesus want a decision or a commitment? In Mark 8:34, Jesus said, “If anyone would
come after Me, let him deny himself.” Phillips’ translations puts it this way, “Let him give up
all rights to himself.” It is not giving up something for Lent. It’s giving up someone: yourself. Have
you made a decision for Christ? Or, have you made a committed to Him?
One Of Many Or Your One & Only?
Jesus goes on to say, “If anyone would come after Me . . . let him take up his cross.” To
“take up your cross” does not mean: to put up with the trivial frustrations of life. The image
invoked is an instrument of death. It is as if Jesus is asking, “Am I there only when it is conven-
ient? Or, are you willing to go through hell for My Name?” Is He One of many things in your life?
Or, is He your One & Only?
Following Jesus or Following Rules?
Jesus finishes by saying, “follow Me.” Denying yourself and taking up your cross are past –tense,
one-time commitments. “Follow Me” is a present-tense imperative verb. Jesus is saying, “Keep
on following Me.” The Pharisees followed rules. They criticized often. They alienated others.
They performed deeds to be seen of man. But how do they look like on the inside? Are you fol-
lowing rules? Or, are you following Jesus?
Conclusion
Which is it? Are you a fan of Jesus? Or, are you a follower of Jesus?
Matthew 7:13-14,
Pastor Chip

God’s Kids
As the end of the year approaches, we will be facing yet again
changes and brand new circumstances. But as we have learned in
our classrooms and chapel this school year, no matter how new or
fearful things are, God is always with us.
Graduation for God’s Kids will be on Friday, May 15th, 2015 at
7:00 p.m. We are so thankful for our children and families who
have been with us this year. Several have been here two years.
Thanks and God Bless!
“I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go.”

Children’s Ministry
On Sunday Mornings, the Children's Ministry has been studying, 'Leadership'. We have studied Othniel and
Ehud, unfamiliar leaders of the Old Testament whom God 'raised up and equipped' to deliver the Israelites
from oppression. We are learning that effective leaders lead by example, often knowingly step into precari-
ous situations, and care about whom they are leading......telling people what to do is often ineffective; we
must show them!
Wednesday Night Children's Worship begins at 6:30 in the FLC. The children worship God through praise
songs and prayer; learn about Him in small group Bible Study; then fellowship in the gym. If your
child(ren) has/have not attended yet, he/she may join us any Wednesday night. We will end our year with a
'game night' on May 27th at 6:30 in the FLC. The fifth and sixth graders are invited to join with the youth,
in the Youth House, for Worship on any Wednesday night at 6:30; this is optional.
The fifth and sixth graders have been given their mission project instructions from Doc. The children will
be required to earn money, then the class will use the money earned to donate to a Samaritan's Purse pro-
ject. Upon completion of his/her project, the child must write a brief summary of what he/she did and give
the summary to Doc. THE MONEY AND SUMMARY IS DUE NOW.
Kid's Choir will meet for the last time this spring on May 3, at 6:00 p.m. in the FLC for an 'end of the year'
party:) Kid's Choir plans to resume late summer/early fall. Thank you for allowing you child to participate
in Kids Choir. A Children's Sunday night Bible Study and Fellowship will meet on May 17, at 6:00p.m. in
the FLC; then it will begin weekly on June 7th. There may be a few 'Mission' studies mixed in, courtesy of
Jack and Lyn Kinnison.
CENTRIKID KIDSCAMP SIGN-UP IS NOW.....The deadline for a guaranteed spot has past; however, you
may still add your child(ren) if Centrikid has space; just see me. The date for camp is June 29-July 3, 2015.
The total cost per child is $340.00.... The child must have finished 3rd grade to attend (camp rule, not
mine). THANK YOU to everyone who purchased a Boston butt to benefit the children attending Kids
Camp.
Our ongoing mission project is 'change for Alabama Baptist Children's Homes'. A 'Lighthouse' bank for the
children(or adults) to put their extra change into is in the FLC; money collected in this bank will benefit
the Alabama Baptist Children's Homes. Our Lighthouse has been donated to another church for the
month of March, but it will return in very soon:)
Family worship will be Sunday, May 24 (holiday weekend); and Sunday May 31, 2015.
"Rejoice always, pray continuously, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ
Jesus." 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18.
If you have any question, concern, or suggestion, please call/test 205-919-8444; or email
Thank you for sharing your children with us!
Blessings,

Dear Church Family
Thank you for your love expressed in so many ways - prayers, cards, food, flowers - in the death of my
mother, Mary Penuel. “I’m so glad I’m a part of the Family of God” - it truly is a great blessing.
