One of my favorite things about the Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce is its way of finding fun and innovative ways of sharing information with our community and supporting local organizations at the same time. One of the most successful ideas it has started back in November of 2018 was the first “Chamber Chatter.” Chamber Chatter is a short video that is posted to Facebook and YouTube, and shared via Constant Contact, that started out as a fun way to share upcoming events to encourage participation and increase attendance. It has turned into a “spotlight” for local organizations to present their information to the community.

The staff began by presenting a quick overview of the upcoming events of the week, which included multiple events and networking opportunities. That opening was following by a conversation or interview of that week’s host.

Since the first live video, this program has grown into a popular addition to the marketing program at the Chamber and is eagerly awaited on Facebook every Tuesday around 10 a.m. It has taken it on the road (literally) and gone live from a car on the way between ribbon cuttings and meetings, or it is live at a newly-opened local business, like The Robin’s Nest and Engine 5 Bakehouse, to welcome them to the Chamber and to introduce them to the community. Last fall, a segment was recorded at the Snow Pond Center for the Arts, showing off the changes that are happening there and giving viewers a glimpse of its beautiful campus on the shores of Messalonskee Lake. More recently, the video featuring Steve Farnham of McCormack’s Building Supply after its

devastating fire was impressive in how it shared topical information in a thoughtful and supportive way.

This program has matured and evolved, with new hosts and guests, and is now being recorded by Chad Smith of Crossroads TV, who provides a sophisticated and professional presentation, with the integration of still and video

images to support the subject of the videos.

Since day one, Aroma Joe’s has supported Chamber Chatter, as it has sponsored the program and the gift certificates awarded as prizes to lucky viewers who share, comment or like on Facebook. It continues to sponsor Chamber Chatter and are now joined in their support by Maine Technology Group and Crossroads TV. Area businesses are generous in their support of the Chamber, and for good reason. Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce is a champion for their members, and it shows in their innovation and dedication.

Fred’s Coffee provides a wide variety of coffee and water services for restaurants, offices, and convenience stores. It offers a variety of coffee in several brands, numerous varieties, and popular formats. All offerings are fully supported with equipment and service. Fred’s also distributes, supplies, and maintains point-of-use water coolers for businesses.

Fred’s Coffee began as a vending company in 1951 with a single peanut machine. It started adding soda, snacks, candy, and coffee vending services as its business grew. In the 1980s, it expanded the coffee service to include restaurants, convenience stores, and workplace coffee programs. It is now the exclusive distributor of New England Coffee for the state of Maine and also distribute Seacoast, Downeast, and Maine’s Best coffees as well.

After the growth of the coffee distribution operation, the point-of-use water cooler business took effect. Fred’s began leasing water coolers to businesses for their work stations, waiting rooms, and break areas. They are unique in their point-of-use set-up, which is free of water bottles that require constant replacement. These units are healthy, economical, and environmentally responsible.

In 1992, it also established a beverage business to include a juice service for restaurants. With the addition of this offering, it continued to build its relationship as a full-service beverage provider.

Fred’s ever-growing customer base has expanded to the entire state of Maine, as well as parts of New Hampshire. From a one-man show to a multi-employee, modern-day company, the business continues to thrive. It

continuously maintains the original, family-run, personal philosophy of doing business with an emphasis on quality and service.

February 6, 2020

Waterville Reignited — Renewing downtown Waterville’s economic vitality, with Colby’s Director of Commercial Real Estate, Paul Ureneck .

Ureneck’s background is in commercial real estate, having worked for The Boulos Co, northern New England’s largest commercial real estate development, brokerage and management firm, for 30 years as their Senior Vice President of Project Management.

Ureneck has a track record in managing and transforming +/- 4 million square feet of complex manufacturing, office, medical, retail, and office real estate develop-ment projects. Ureneck is a creative and collaborative leader with the ability to bring together diverse professional and community groups, often with conflicting goals, to build consensus and improve working relationships. He excels at solving construction problems by recognizing and acknowledging the importance of all team members, and is skilled in permitting, financing and design, making him the optimal choice for major project planning and implementation. Ureneck’s work integrating Colby’s vision into the footprint established in downtown Waterville, as well as the additional projects, expansions and continuing growth in the city’s core, will be the focus of his enlightening presentation.
