Class Enrollment of Current Students BeginsCurrent juniors, sophomores, and freshmen began the enrollment process for the 2021-2022 school year at the end of January. Students received paperwork for course selection and have access to enrollment tutorials through Google Classroom and at www.kapaun.org. Students also have received instructions for entering their selections online through PowerSchool. It is important for each student to know their PowerSchool login information in order to complete the process. Please make sure the online selections are completed by February 5.
Students can f ind information on KMC’s Academic Pathways on the www.kapaun.org website under the Academics tab. Inspired by the Career Cluster Pathway Program of Study Application (CPPSA) by the Kansas Department of Education, Kapaun Mt. Carmel’s curriculum pathways are intended to help students foster interests in different career areas, and help them proceed through a series of courses throughout their high school career.
Additional information that can aid in students making the enrollment choices that are right for them can also be found under the Academics tab, including graduation requirements and the Program of Studies.
Additional enrollment information can be found at www.kapaun.org under the Academics tab.
Videos have been created that walk students through the enrollment process. They have been shared via students’ Google drives and are avaiilable at www.kapaun.org. There are different videos for each grade.
The Crusader Annual Fund campaign started 2021 strong with $392,000 in donations and pledges. Thank you to all who have participated thus far. This is a great start as we work toward our goal of $450,000.
This month, through the end of the school year, we will recognize current parents who have given to the 2020-21 Crusader Annual Fund through our Leadership List. The recognition is a small way of saying thank you for being a leader in giving.
Our goal is to have 100 percent parent participation. Currently, however, only 40 percent of KMC current parents have donated thus far.
Roughly three out of five families have not donated this year.
However, we need 100 percent participation by all KMC families. If you haven’t contributed yet, I ask that you prayerfully consider doing so. Please do not take for granted this gift of a Catholic education. We ask all families to offer what they can. The “gap” per student is $800 and is the recommended donation per family, but any gift amount is appreciated.
Show your support by making a donation today by returning your Crusader Annual Fund pledge card or by donating online at www.kapaun.org. A spring request letter will be sent home in the mail soon, and if we still haven’t heard from you, a phone-a-thon will follow that, so please respond as soon as you can for the education of your kids. Go Crusaders!
Leadership ListThank you to the following KMC Parents who have donated to the 2020-21 Annual Fund through January 26, 2021:

Join us in PrayerJanuary 22 marked 48 years of legalized abortion on demand in the United States. Crusaders have been marching for life in Washington, DC for over 20 years. Sadly, due to COVID-19, we are unable to march in person, but we are marching in prayer and solidarity from Wichita. Please join us in continuing to pray for an end to abortion.
KSHSAA Athletic News UpdateThere was a recent KSHSAA meeting in which the number of spectators allowed at winter athletic events was addressed. Ultimately, there was a vote to allow four spectators per participant and it passed. However, that vote simply allowed for each league to discuss the possibility of allowing more spectators into games based on the health of their community and the size of their venues. The GWAL is currently discussing this decision and will have determination in the next few days. Regardless, this would not go into effect until January 29. We will communicate any changes as soon as we know them, but for now, the same attendance rules of two parents only can attend. In addition, KSHSAA has received multiple reports of schools not enforcing the COVID-19 guidelines that have been adopted by the state and the league. Therefore, they are allowing schools and individuals to report those schools who are non-compliant in following and enforcing those guidelines. If a school is found to be in violation four times, that school can be held out of post-season play.
We ask, for the sake of our student athletes, that individuals who attend our events follow the guidelines that have been put in place. Many of our families have advocated to KMC, and to the state, to attend these events and to even expand the number of individuals allowed. Allowances have been made with the stipulation that we take a few simple steps that provide for the welfare of others. We are simply asking that you temp-check at the door, use hand sanitizer, social distance in the stands and wear a mask at all times. Without every parent following these protocols, we are in jeopardy of losing post-season play, and ultimately preventing your student athletes from participating.
Athletic Grade Checks February 1Athletic grade checks for second semester will begin on Monday, February 1. Grade checks are done weekly to determine eligibility for every student athlete.
Information regarding academic eligibility for student athletes may be found in the agenda book, or on the www.kapaun.org website under “Athletics and Activities”. Contact Dean of Students, John Heise, at [email protected] with any questions or concerns.
Catholic Schools WeekIn celebration of our Catholic schools, KMC will be participating in Catholic Schools Week with special events and themed dress-up days during the week of February 1. If a student chooses not to participate in the themed dress up days, they may wear their school uniform.
• Monday: Noah’s Ark. Dress up like Noah/family, animals from the ark or the ark itself.
• Tuesday: All Out Catholic. Dress up as your favorite saint, or wear Catholic t-shirt/apparel from parish/feeder school, Catholic organization, etc.
• Wednesday: Remote classes. • Thursday: Country Music vs. Rock Music. Dress up
in appropriate country or rock gear. You may choose to dress up as a specific artist in either genre.•
• Friday: Class Colors. Dress up in assigned class color. Seniors: blue; juniors: white; sophomores: gray; freshmen: neon. Sweatpants are allowed.
More details on the dress code for each day will be shared with students.
Parent Teacher Conferences Save the date for Parent Teacher Conferences on February 25 and 26. There will be in-person and virtual options available. More information will be shared in the coming weeks.

Service HoursEven though we’re in the midst of the COVID pandemic, the need for volunteers has not diminished, nor has our need to give back. Although we have modified our service hours requirements this year, we are still encouraging students to get out and help in the community at large, to the extent that they are comfortable and able.
Additional information can be found on the www.kapaun.org website, under Faith and Service, including a list of pre-approved organizations.
All students have been made aware of these temporary modifications. Parents may email Fr. Curtis Hecker at [email protected] or their student’s religion teacher with any questions.
