During this second trimester, the Environmental Ambassadors have been focused on the idea of REUSING to help the environment. The Environmental Ambassadors have been trying to encourage their friends to use reusable items. On Tuesday, February 25th, our school will be participating in another Waste Free Lunch Day. We ask families that would like to participate to see the information below, and prepare a "waste free" lunch for your child that day. Thank you for your participation.

A Waste-Free Lunch (REUSABLE) sandwiches and other main dishes, fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, and

treats in a reusable lunch container cloth napkins

stainless-steel forks and spoons reusable drink

containers reusable lunchboxes With this type of lunch, lunch food items can be bought in larger quantities. The packaging can be left at home for reuse or recycling. Waste-free lunches are not only a wise environmental choice, but they are less expensive as well. wastefreelunches.org

Rocky’s Reading Challenge

hopes to increase literacy

across the area by showing

students that reading can be

both fun and rewarding.

Complete the challenge and

students can be eligible for two (2) Blue Rocks tickets for

a game TBD this spring. Look for bookmarks in this

week’s Friday Folder. Bookmarks must be returned by

March 16th.

The Ministry of Caring

For February we will be collecting

hats, scarves and gloves. Please

send in new items only. There will

be a bin in the gym lobby through the month of

February. Thank you once again for your

continued support of this wonderful

organization.

It is time to turn in your Box Tops! A collection box is located across the hall from the Nurse's office. All Box Tops should be in a Ziploc bag or envelope with the number of Box Tops clearly marked on the front. Please be sure all Box Tops have been turned in by Wednesday, February 26 to be counted towards the winter submission. Thank you for supporting SMM's Box Tops for Education Program! Any questions, please contact Nikki Hudak at [email protected].

Parenting with Love and Logic and Dealing with Anger Last fall I held a free parenting class based on the work of Jim Fay and the Love and Logic Institute. I encourage parents to consider taking the online parenting course through the Love and Logic website link https://www.loveandlogic.com/collections/classes-

and-conferences/products/love-and-logic-parenting-online. This class will teach you how to use natural consequences as a means for teaching your children the difficult life lessons NOW, while the stakes are still low, well before they are behind the wheel of a car or in college. In addition, Love and Logic is concentrated around decreasing the power struggle between parents and children. Also, please see the attached article from Prevent Child Abuse Delaware that encourages parents to model calm behavior when angry. http://pcadelaware.org/news/2020/2/4/how-to-

stop-yelling-at-your-kids-and-what-to-do-instead I apologize if "Cluck like a Chicken" seems like a stretch to you, but read the whole article! As I say to our students: Feeling angry is okay (a normal, and natural feeling), but what you do with your anger may not be okay. In the meantime, I encourage you to promote self-care and take some time for yourself this weekend!
