Since its founding in 2005, the FedEx Racing program has made a commitment to community service a priority and team hallmark. Through national initiatives with the March of Dimes, The Salvation Army and the American Red Cross, and cooperation with local human service organizations, FedEx Racing has touched the lives of thousands of individuals and offered much needed support in the form of charitable contributions and the volunteerism of FedEx team members.

2013: Denny Hamlin and the FedEx Racing Team again used the NASCAR platform to raise awareness for charitable organizations in 2013, including special #11 paint schemes for the March of Dimes at Texas in April and for Autism Speaks at Dover in June, in conjunction with the FedEx 400 benefiting Autism Speaks race weekend. In September, the March of Dimes recognized Hamlin with its highest honor, the prestigious “Champion for Babies” Award. Hamlin became just the fourth recipient of the award, joining Pro Football Hall of Famer Joe Namath, golf legend Arnold Palmer and veteran broadcaster Greg Gumbel. Hamlin accepted the

award at the March of Dimes Volunteer Leadership Conference and Gala in Washington, D.C.

Joining with the US Chamber of Commerce and the American Red Cross, FedEx, Denny Hamlin and Joe Gibbs helped spread the message of disaster preparedness during the annual America’s Small Business Summit. Speaking to news media and small business owners, Hamlin and Gibbs provided critical information for small business owners to better respond to emergencies and ensure the safety of employees and customers.

2012: The FedEx Racing Team highlighted immediate relief and ongoing recovery

efforts following major disasters that struck different parts of the country. Prior to the race at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway in May, Hamlin and #11 FedEx crew members visited nearby Tuscaloosa, Ala., on the one-year anniversary of the devastating tornadoes that ripped through the area in 2011. FedEx helped

deliver appliances to the first house rebuilt in the Alberta City neighborhood, and made a $10,000 donation to the local chapter of The Salvation Army.

In the fall, ‘Superstorm’ Sandy caused extensive damage along the east coast, including major flooding and power outages in New York City and surrounding areas. In addition to the tireless efforts of FedEx team members, who volunteered their time to get much-needed supplies into the area, Hamlin and the #11 crew flew into Newark, N.J., prior to NASCAR’s season-finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway, to pitch in. The team helped unload a truck full of supplies donated by FedEx to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey, volunteered at the facility and delivered a truck full of frozen turkeys to a food shelter in the area one week before Thanksgiving.

Also during the NASCAR season, FedEx helped raise awareness for the March of Dimes with a special #11 FedEx Office/March of Dimes paint scheme at Texas in April, and for Autism Speaks through its title sponsorship of the FedEx 400 benefitting Autism Speaks at Dover (Del.) International Speedway in June.

2011: Disaster preparedness was again the program’s focus in 2011, as the “Race to Prepare” initiative reached local communities near San Francisco, Louisville, Kansas City and Dallas. FedEx made $10,000 donations to each of the local chapters of the American Red Cross in those markets, and to date, more than 1,000 children have participated in the program. At Texas Motor Speedway in April, Hamlin ran a specially-designed #11 FedEx/March of Dimes Toyota to raise awareness for the organization. The design for

the car was created by Dallas-area twins and healthy survivors of the March of Dimes program, who traveled to Joe Gibbs Racing in Huntersville, N.C., and with the help of Denny Hamlin, designed the appearance of the car from a blank white canvas.

2009/2010: With disaster relief and preparedness as the program’s focus, Hamlin and the #11 team joined FedEx to present new Disaster Response Units (DRU) to the Salvation Army chapters in Washington, D.C. and Boston, and then worked with the American Red Cross for “Race to Prepare” workshops with school-aged children in Indianapolis, Richmond, Philadelphia, Chicago and Atlanta. The events focused attention on the simple steps families can take to prepare themselves for disasters of all types, while featuring fun racing-themed activities.

2010 also marked another year working with the March of Dimes. In addition to racing a special #11 March of Dimes Toyota at Phoenix International Raceway in April, FedEx and Hamlin worked to raise awareness for the March of Dimes by encouraging financial support of the March for Babies walks.

2008: FedEx supported community service agencies in Boston, Washington D.C., Indianapolis and Los Angeles to assist with their mission of providing food to those in need. Denny Hamlin and the #11 FedEx Racing team delivered new Toyota

Prius hybrid vehicles to the agencies on behalf of FedEx, enabling them to more efficiently serve their community while supporting a continued commitment to new technologies. Each visit also brought large groups of FedEx team members who volunteered their time to assist the groups.

Also in 2008, FedEx Racing teamed up with the March of Dimes to support the annual March for Babies. After a kick-off event in Dallas, Hamlin raced a special #11 March of Dimes paint scheme in Phoenix. The event raised awareness and funds for the organization.2007: The FedEx commitment to children’s health initiatives came to life in the form of the FedEx “Wear Your

Heart on Your Helmet” program. Over the course of the season, FedEx worked with children’s hospitals in seven NASCAR race markets, and also with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, to find patients interested in designing the race helmet Denny Hamlin would wear in 11 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races.

The creativity of the children led to great designs that renowned helmet designer Jason Beam then transferred onto the helmets Hamlin wore on the race track. Following the season, all 11 race-worn helmets were put up for auction and cumulatively raised more than $20,000 to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis.

By season’s end, Hamlin and the FedEx team had visited children’s hospitals in Los Angeles, Richmond, Dallas, Boston, Chicago and Kansas City while meeting with Make-A-Wish program participants at several races throughout the season. FedEx generously presented each participating hospital with a donation of $25,000, and presented the Make-A-Wish Foundation with a donation of $50,000.

2006: Denny Hamlin and the FedEx Racing team made special deliveries to five children’s hospitals, where Hamlin was presented with specially designed helmets to wear in Cup Series races in the hospital’s home market. In addition to donations on behalf of FedEx for $25,000, the events featured activities for the patients and staff.

Denny Hamlin enters his ninth full season behind the wheel of the #11 FedEx Toyota in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series in 2014, following a disappointing 2013 campaign that saw the Virginia native miss four races due to a back injury and miss qualifying for the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship for the first time in his career.

The season did end on a positive note, as Hamlin was victorious in the finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway, extending his number of consecutive seasons with at least one victory to eight, the fourth-longest active streak in NASCAR. The 23rd victory of his career put him in a tie with Kevin Harvick and Ricky Rudd for 29th on NASCAR’s all-time wins list. Hamlin also recorded a series-high five poles in 2013.

Hamlin suffered a fractured vertebra in a last-lap crash at Auto Club (Calif.) Speedway on March 24 and missed the following four races, snapping his streak of 264 straight races in the #11 machine. He returned to action at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway in May, driving the first 24 laps before giving way to substitute driver Brian Vickers. Top-five finishes at Darlington (S.C) and Charlotte in Hamlin’s first two full races back gave the team optimism for a potential Chase ‘wild card’ berth, but a long stretch of misfortune through the summer months dashed those hopes.

Hamlin tallied four top-five finishes and eight-top 10 results in 32 starts in 2013, leading 363 laps and finishing 23rd in the final Sprint Cup Series point standings.

Hamlin enjoyed a rebound year in 2012, tying the series-high with five victo-ries in his first campaign with new crew chief Darian Grubb. The duo got off to a fast start, winning at Phoenix in just their second race together. Hamlin secured his second victory at Kansas in April, the 199th NASCAR win for car #11, making it the winningest number in series history after passing the famed #43.

Back-to-back wins at Bristol (Tenn.) and Atlanta at the end of the regular season gave Hamlin and the FedEx team the top seed heading into the 10-race Chase playoff. Hamlin scored one win (New Hampshire) and two runner-up finishes in the Chase to end the season sixth in the final point standings.

Hamlin recorded three poles in 2012 -- including at historic Indianapolis Motor Speedway -- and his final win of the season at New Hampshire was the 100th Cup Series victory for Joe Gibbs Racing.

In 2011, the #11 team’s lone win came at Michigan International Speedway in June, when a two-tire stop put Hamlin in front of the pack for a late-race restart, and he was able to hold off Matt Kenseth en route to victory lane. The victory enabled Hamlin to secure a ‘wild card’ berth in the Chase, and he finished ninth in the final standings.

Hamlin set the Cup Series alight in 2010, winning a series-high eight races and putting the FedEx Racing team among the elite in the garage. Winning frequently, and on a wide variety of tracks, Hamlin held the points lead heading into the Chase before ultimately finishing second by the slimmest of margins. Season highlights included a late-race charge at Martinsville (Va.) that elevated the #11 team to a serious contender after a slow start to the season, two signature wins on the high

banks of Texas Motor Speedway that helped stamp the team’s authority on the series, and emotional wins at both Pocono (Pa.) and Richmond. The season was not without its fair share of drama off the track as well - as Hamlin fought through a serious knee injury and subsequent surgery during the 36-race schedule.

The 2009 Sprint Cup Series season proved to be a coming of age campaign for Hamlin and the #11 team. A leadership role within Joe Gibbs Racing and a desire to turn continued success into a championship saw Hamlin make a late-season charge to lock up a spot in NASCAR’s post-season, but Chase wins at Martinsville and Homestead (Fla.) were ultimately negated by on-track problems in Fontana (Calif.), Charlotte and Talladega. Hamlin finished the season fifth in the point standings, setting then-career best marks for wins, top-five finishes and total laps led. His impressive victories on various circuits proved Hamlin and his team were well positioned to be the primary challengers to reigning champion Jimmie Johnson moving forward.

The 2008 Sprint Cup season was, by any definition, a season of change. As Joe Gibbs Racing made the move to a new manufacturer in Toyota, the Cup Series made the full-time move to the Car of Tomorrow, and Hamlin welcomed Kyle Busch as a teammate, the #11 FedEx team was hoping that change would also come in the form of a series championship effort. Despite making the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup in both 2006 and 2007, the onus was on the team to translate regular season success into a charge down the stretch.

The spring race at Richmond International Raceway highlighted both the satisfaction of fully dominating an event and the speed with which that dom-inance can be undone. Hamlin started the 400-lap event from the pole and led an impressive 381 laps before a cut tire forced him to pit road with only 19 laps to go. A win on a cold, rainy day in Martinsville earned Hamlin his sole Cup triumph of the season and a long-coveted Grandfather clock trophy. As Hamlin marched to his third-consecutive Chase, the team was hoping to avoid the letdown that marked the 2007 edition, but alas, it was not to be.

After a mechanical failure in Dover and a tremendous hit following a cut tire at Talladega, Hamlin was all but eliminated from championship contention and finished the year in eighth place.

The 2007 season built on a wildly successful 2006 rookie campaign and helped solidify Hamlin and the #11 team’s status as a perennial championship contender. Hamlin quickly allayed fears that he would fall victim to the dreaded “sophomore slump” by kicking off the season with a string of solid results that catapulted him into the top-five in points.

Hamlin’s lone 2007 win came at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in July when a late-race two-tire change gave him the track position he needed and the opportunity to hold off Jeff Gordon en route to victory lane. On several occasions in 2007, dominating performances by Hamlin and the team were nullified by pit road mishaps, mechanical problems or penalties, yet the #11 team still maintained championship aspirations and a place near the top of the standings. Hamlin posted 12 top-five finishes and 18 top-10 results throughout the year, but ultimately settled for 12th place in the final standings.

In 2006, Hamlin burst onto the scene with a win in the prestigious Budweiser Shootout exhibition race at Daytona Interna-tional Speedway, and carried that early momentum into one of the most successful rookie campaigns in NASCAR history.

On his way to becoming the first – and still only – rookie to earn a spot in the Chase for the championship, Hamlin posted his first career Cup Series victory in dominating style at Pocono Raceway. He captured three pole awards, finished third in the final point standings and earned 2006 “Rookie of the Year” honors.

Hamlin’s ascension to the highest levels of NASCAR came through a combination of skill, perseverance, a little bit of luck and a knack for delivering strong performances when given the opportunity. Each of Hamlin’s “debuts” has come with caveats of additional opportunities (in the form of more races or permanent employment) should he meet or beat expec-

tations, and he has absolutely shone in those instances. In his first NASCAR Truck Series race, Hamlin drove the Gibbs Performance Chevrolet to a 10th-place finish at Indianapolis Raceway Park on Aug. 6, 2004. Three months later, making his debut in the Busch (now Nationwide) Series at Darlington Raceway, he recorded an eight-place finish for JGR.

With Hamlin on his way to a fifth-place finish in the standings during his rookie Busch Series campaign, he was offered the unexpected opportunity to run the #11 FedEx Chevrolet at the end of the 2005 Cup Series season. Hamlin wasted no time in displaying his talent, posting three top-10 finishes in seven starts and winning the pole in Phoenix. His performances over the seven races he ran at the end of 2005 made him an easy choice to fill the seat of the #11 FedEx car for 2006.

In addition to his success at the Cup level, Hamlin has put together an impressive resume in the Nationwide Series. He made his debut in 2004 and spent nearly three full seasons behind the wheel of the #20 Joe Gibbs Racing Chevrolet, before making the transition to Toyotas for JGR, Braun Racing and CJM beginning in 2008. In 141 total starts, Hamlin has racked up 11 wins and 16 poles.

Hamlin now finds himself at the highest level of NASCAR, but he has been winning races since the age of seven when he began his career racing karts in the Junior Sportsman League. From the kart tracks of Virginia to the Sprint Cup Series, Hamlin has proven he can succeed at any level.

In 2000, he was named “Rookie of the Year” at Southside Speedway in Richmond, Va., posting 11 top-five finishes that year. Just three years later, Hamlin celebrated his finest season in Late Models, recording 25 wins, 30 poles and 33 top-five finishes.

In 1997, at age 16, Hamlin hit the track for his first season driving a Mini Stock car. The year was a resounding success as Hamlin became the youngest driver to win the NASCAR Mini Stock track championship at Langley (Va.) Speedway, and was named the 1997 NASCAR Mini Stock “Rookie of the Year.” He still holds the NASCAR Mini Stock record at Langley with a lap time of 18.025 seconds.

Hamlin was dominating in the Junior Restricted League at age 12, earning the titles Amelia Motor Raceway track champion (junior restricted), Virginia Dirt Karting Association State Champion (Junior Champ) and World Karting Association Virginia Dirt Series State Champion (Junior Champ). He finished his Kart career at age 15 with 127 feature wins and five championships in three classes.

Away from the track, Hamlin stays active - whether playing golf, basketball or working out - and spending time with friends. He remains a committed fan of Virginia Tech and the Washington Redskins, and can be found courtside for Charlotte Bobcats home games. Hamlin and longtime girlfriend Jordan Fish welcomed their first child, daughter Taylor, in January 2013.

Denny Hamlin wins his first career pole in only his fifth career start – Phoenix, Nov. 2005

Darian Grubb will begin his third season as crew chief of the #11 FedEx Toyota in 2014. He has helped guide Denny Hamlin and the team to six victories in two years at the helm, including the 2013 season-finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway. A back injury forced Hamlin to miss four races early in the 2013, and Grubb recorded top-10 finishes with a pair of drivers in Hamlin’s absence — Mark Martin and Brian Vickers.

Grubb combined with Hamlin to win a series-high five races in 2012, and finished sixth in the final standings. The duo won in just their second race working together, at Phoenix in March, and entered the Chase as the top seed after four regular season victories — Phoenix, Kansas, Bristol-2 and Atlanta. The fifth victory came in the Chase race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Prior to joining Joe Gibbs Racing, Grubb spent three seasons (2009-2011) as Tony Stewart’s crew chief at Stewart-Haas Racing. The duo won the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship, winning five of 10 races in the Chase playoff to edge the #99 Roush Fenway Racing entry for the title.

During his three-year tenure at Stewart-Haas Racing, Grubb and Stewart combined to win 11 races and record 59 top-10 finishes, as well as a victory in the 2009 Sprint All-Star Race. The #14 team made the Chase in each of its three seasons under Grubb’s leadership, finishing sixth in 2009 and seventh in 2010 before winning it all.

Grubb came to Stewart-Haas Racing following a six-year stint at Hendrick Motorsports, where he rose from an engineer on the #48 team to the company’s engineering manager for the #5 and #88 Sprint Cup teams. Grubb also earned experience as a crew chief, serving in an interim role on the #48 team for the first four races of the 2006 season, where he led Jimmie Johnson to victory in the season-opening Daytona 500.

He spent the 2007 season as the crew chief for Casey Mears, leading the driver to his first Sprint Cup Series victory in the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Grubb grew up in Floyd County, Va., and spent the majority of his time in high school working on Late Model stock cars that competed on tracks throughout Virginia and the Carolinas. A 1993 graduate of Floyd County High School, Grubb earned his degree in mechanical engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) in 1998 via a co-op program with Volvo Trucks and General Motors.

Following college, he spent two years at Volvo Trucks as a design engineer, while staying active in the motorsports community. He worked as the crew chief for Jeff Agnew in the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series, helping guide the driver to the championship and “Rookie of the Year” honors in 1998.

Grubb got his first break into the Sprint Cup Series with Petty Enterprises in February 2000. He was part of the engineering team that helped develop the Dodge Intrepid in NASCAR, and served as the shock specialist on the famous #43 Petty car through 2002.

In 2003, Grubb joined Hendrick Motorsports as an engineer on the #48 team under the direction of crew chief Chad Knaus, before he was promoted to lead engineer for the #48 and #24 teams in 2005. He became Hendrick Motorsports’ lead race engineer while simultaneously serving as the lead race day engineer for the #48 team in 2006, where he helped the team to five victories and the first of five-straight Sprint Cup Series titles.

Grubb resides in Mooresville, N.C., with his wife, Yolanda, and their two children, Gavin and Gabriella. In his spare time, Grubb enjoys spending time with his family, boating, following college football and working on cars and computers.

Joe GibbsAs Owner of Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) and former head coach of the Washington Redskins, Joe Gibbs has proven himself in two of the top sports in the United States – the National Football League and NASCAR.

Gibbs, who won three Super Bowl titles during his first stint as Redskins coach from 1981-1992, formed Joe Gibbs Racing in July 1991 with business partner Don Meredith. Under Joe Gibbs’ ownership, JGR has won three series titles (2000, 2002 and 2005), the Daytona 500 with Dale Jarrett, three Brickyard 400 trophies and 100 Sprint Cup Series wins.

In addition to his Cup Championships and Super Bowl victories, Gibbs was named NFL’s “Coach of the Year” in 1982, 1983 and 1991 and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1996. After returning to his beloved Redskins to prominence in his second stint as head coach, he retired from coaching in January 2008.

He and his wife, Pat, reside in Cornelius, N.C.

J. D. GibbsWhen his father, and team owner, Joe Gibbs returned to the head coach position with the Washington Redskins in 2004, all eyes focused on J.D. Gibbs, who, as the new face of the organization, was charged with taking a championship race team and raising it to even greater heights.

J.D. was named president of Joe Gibbs Racing in 2007, and has been instrumental in building the team into one of NASCAR’s most competitive and respected organizations. He helped guide the team to the 2005 Cup Series championship with Tony Stewart, and helped assemble the organization’s third team in the form of the #11 FedEx team.

J.D.’s commitment to his employees and the values of loyalty and hard work has seen Joe Gibbs Racing grow in size as well. JGR now has more than 400 employees at the state of the art race shop in Huntersville, N.C.

He resides in Davidson, N.C. with his wife, Melissa, and four sons.
