INTRODUCTION

Since more than 15 years, FERTIL became a specialist in substrate additives developing progressively a complete range.

FERTIL’s expertise in substrate additives comes from:

• its technical experience on these products,

• its marketing, relayed by a sales force that ensures the reputation of these products,

• its know-how in terms of homologation and regulation,

• its important storage capacity in a single point of most products. And its ability to serve as an interface between industry and

the world of horticulture.

Substrate manufacturers are becoming increasingly significant partners to distribute FERTIL’s range. They have a clear

legitimacy by the guarantees they have in terms of quality of incorporation.

FERTIL cares about the need for substrate manufacturers to freely lead their own purchasing policy and their trade policy. Of

course, we leave them the choice between communicating our brands or not.

This document brings together the technical, regulatory and commercial information on the whole range of products which may

be of interest for substrate manufacturers.

TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS

FERTIL presents two wetting agents. The doses are comparable but the properties and costs are different. Time is a key criterion

if it is not known how long the soil will be stored before use (retail range) or for use in hanging baskets, for which the wetting

agent may have gone by the time where it becomes more useful.

• AQUAMIX is so far unequalled in all comparative tests we've made. It is a formulated product, the only one which is

homologated.

• FERTIL n°6 has the same composition as a wetting agent marketed in many countries. It is a simpler product, with a good

duration of action.

We are at your disposal for testing on your raw materials, to evaluate their current or potential degree of hydrophobicity. We

can also test your soil added wetting agents to verify their proper distribution. Control of embedded amounts after manufacturing

is possible if you can get us untreated original soil.

Granular products are more expensive to use but have the advantage of being able to be used in all situations.

HOMOLOGATION

The French legislation allows the use and the indication on the packaging of "regularly put on the market" wetting agents for

media marketed in France. It seems to us that "regularly" is to be taken in the sense of "legally". Except if this interpretation is

disputed by users of products or reversed by the Administration, the non-homologated products are to be used as

“technological additives”, or for production of substrates sent to countries besides France.

On the regulatory side, FERTIL considers having notified its customers and let them the full responsibility for the use of non-

homologated products.

SECURITY

Homologated product.

Duration of action of the product up to 5 years depending on the use (UV are the main cause of degradation).

EFFICIENCY

Water holding capacity is up to 200 times its dry weight. Water available to the roots and not subject to loss by evaporation and

drainage.

TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS

It is highly recommended to use FERTISORB M in combination with a wetting agent.

FERTISORB M is a calibrated product : 0,3 to 1 mm.

INSTRUCTIONS OF USE

Adjust the amount of FERTISORB M to the type of soil. As an example, the following doses are commonly used:

• 2 to 3 kg / m3 for porous substrates based of barks, wood fibers or coir residue.

• 1 to 2 kg / m3 for substrates based of peat or compost.

• specific concentrations in the case of substrates for hanging baskets.

WARNING !

The competing product, previously very close to FERTISORB M seems more variable.

Pay special attention to hygiene products, NOT HOMOLOGATED for horticulture. Their price is attractive (about 30% less) but

they are made to capture the water without releasing. Agronomic performances will therefore be negative.

aquamix For easy wetting and rewetting of composts and plants

AQUAMIX is the ultimate product from the FERTIL range

of wetting agents, especially designed for peat and bark

based composts. This non-ionic wetter combines the

performance of usual wetting agents and brings many

extras.

AQUAMIX can be used at the recommended rate through

incorporating into the media or in the watering system:

• Reduce the soil/media impermeability

• Easy and simple to mix, even under cold conditions

• Better efficiency of chemicals and fertilisers

• No dry spots or water in excess in the pots

PRINCIPLE

AQUAMIX improves the water distribution growing media

and plants. Using AQUAMIX helps the water to move out

from saturated areas and makes the wetting of the

hydrophobic spots. The water flows better, is not in

excess and the roots will get water more easily.

How to use AQUAMIX

nutricote Controlled release fertiliser

NUTRICOTE is a very accurate fertiliser with a well

controlled release in a wide range including some new

formulations (blend, high potash, micro).

FIELDS OF APPLICATION

NUTRICOTE can be incorporated into composts or in the

soil when starting cultivation. It supplies the plant with all

of its nutrition throughout the growing period. It can be

also used as top dressing. Depending on the types, the

fertilizing action is effective from 2 months to 3 years.

PRINCIPLE

The release time depends on the density of micro perforations

in the fine resin coating. In other fertilisers, it is the thickness of

the coating that determines the release rate. The special

coating of NUTRICOTE gives the following advantages :

• Elastic membrane, resistant to splitting

• Release curve is linear in time

GRANULE SIZE

The granules have a diameter between 3 and 4 mm

(except NUTRICOTE MICRO, see after). This makes it

suitable for use in small containers, giving an even

distribution of the granules in the pots.

CHOICE OF THE TYPE

The « T » followed by a figure expresses the « type ». The « type »

fits a standard released pattern. For a specific « type », temperature

only will have an effect on the longevity of the fertiliser release.

temperature for the area need to be known. Roughly

speaking, we can consider the following durations :

Special formulation for small containers and plug trays.

The special granules give a very good and even

distribution.

In most slow release fertilisers, the most soluble salts,

including nitrogen, will be released faster than others.

In a 1-1-1 formulation, more nitrogen in proportion to

potash is available at the start of growing with more

potash available at the end of cropping, which suits most

crops well.

The 10-10-18 formulation is dedicated to growers who need a

constant nitrogen / potash ratio throughout the growing

period. This is achieved by mixing together a high nitrogen

and a high potash formulation with similar release curves.

1 – NUTRICOTE should be applied according to soil or

growing media conditions and the specific requirements

of the crop being grown. It is recommended that a soil

analysis is done prior to incorporation of NUTRICOTE.

FERTIL is not responsible for the damages caused by

misuse of the product.

2 – The release of NUTRICOTE starts when the product is

in contact with moisture. Do not incorporate NUTRICOTE

in the growing media earlier than two weeks before use

except if it is dry.
