A Note from the DirectorDear Friends,

Student success is the goal, the motivating force for everything we do at the Rock Island-Milan Education Foundation (RIMEF). Our mission is to “enhance academic opportunities for student success.”

At the RIMEF, we define enhancing as providing the financial support necessary to give our students opportunities their schools and teachers could not otherwise afford. To enhance, we need YOU!

We rely on our donors and our community to make what we do possible – only with gifts like yours can we make a difference. Through the generosity of our donors in 2019, the RIMEF distributed over $300,000 in grants, awards, scholarships, and other assistance to the students, teachers, and schools of the Rock Island-Milan School District. With your help, classrooms in every school throughout the RIMSD were enhanced, programs were enriched, and the chances for a senior to further their education was helped. For all this, we thank you!

We strongly believe “there is no greater return than an investment in a child’s education.” We hope you agree and will consider our RIMSD students as 6,263 reasons to continue that investment.

GeneralDonations to our General Fund support the work of the Rock Island-Milan Education Foundation and help us make an impact throughout the Rock Island-Milan School District. All donations listed within this Annual Report were received from October 1, 2018 – September 30, 2019.

PRIME GrantsPRIME (Promoting Rock Island Milan Education) Grants provide opportunities for teachers, departments and schools to explore and purchase innovative programs or materials for their classrooms. PRIME Grants are supported, in part, by our Major Saver fundraiser, our yearly allocations for giving, and donations given directly to the PRIME Grant Fund.

Austin Academic Achievement AwardsFor 39 years the Austin Academic Achievement Awards has celebrated the academic excellence of our Rock Island High School students. At the Austin Academic Achievement Awards and Scholarship Night “Top Ten” students are recognized and the top 2 seniors in 8 academic areas are rewarded with scholarships. Generous donations from the contributors listed in this report were made for the May 16, 2019 ceremony.

Honorarium/Memorial ContributionsContributions to the Education Foundation are sometimes given to honor or memorialize a family member, friend, community leader, or alumnus/alumna. These contributions may be directed to a scholarship, a program, or to our general fund. These gifts are a wonderful way to remember or honor someone’s life while supporting our students and schools.

Scholarship Contributions The Education Foundation has 36 named scholarships providing up to 55 individual awards ranging from $500 - $5,000. From October 1, 2018 – September 30, 2019, the individuals listed made donations to establish or sustain the scholarships we award to our deserving Rock Island High School Seniors.

AccomplishmentsThanks to gifts from our individual donors, businesses, community partners, and alumni locally and throughout the country, the Rock Island-Milan Education Foundation provided over $300,000 to the Rock Island-Milan School District in 2019. With your impactful gifts, the Education Foundation:

• Awarded 65 scholarships and Austin Academic Achievement Awards totaling $88,200 and recognized 74 “Top Ten” freshmen, sophomores, juniors, & seniors at the Austin Academic Achievement Awards & Scholarship Night in May.

• Continued financial support of Entrepreneurship Class at Rock Island High School and awarded a $5,000 prize to the Best Business team at the INCubator.edu Final Pitch - $10,000 total

• Hosted the 2nd year of “Reynolds Returning Rock” program

• Presented 69 PRIME Grants in the amount of $123,744 for the 2019/2020 school year and $19,873 in January, 2019 as 2018/2019 PRIME II - $143,618 total

• Provided $14,456 in HAVlife funds allowing students ages 10-15 to participate in extra-curricular activities which they otherwise could not afford

• Gave $1,000 in assistance to students for Rock Island-Milan based activities

• Welcomed 50 new teachers, principals, and counselors with $3,250 in gift cards to help establish classrooms/offices

• Provided additional $32,247 in ”other” classroom assistance

Making a DifferenceSince 1986, the Rock Island-Milan Education Foundation and our dedicated Board of Directors have worked to “enhance academic opportunities for student success” in the Rock Island-Milan School District (RIMSD). Whether enhancing STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, & Math) opportunities for 3rd graders, giving scholarships to help graduating seniors further their education, or welcoming new teachers with funds to equip their classrooms, the Education Foundation strives to fulfill our mission to ensure the district’s students, teachers, and schools have resources to go beyond the basics with engaging and enriching academic materials and programs.

Our mission can only be fulfilled with your help. Your support generates the opportunities for educational innovation throughout the schools of the RIMSD. By providing the funds to create an enhanced academic environment, you are helping our students reach their full potential. 2019 has been a great year! With your continued generosity, the Education Foundation will be able to grow our programs and secure success for the over 6,000 students of the Rock Island-Milan School District.
