Combine ALL your actuator and control accessories inONE product...
Emerson Process Management's Valve Automation Division has simplifiedthe automation of rotary on valves significantly with an easy to use and intel-ligent solution. The FieldQTM, with IPT technologyTM, can dramatically reduceinstallation costs - eliminating the need to engineer and procure the rack andpinion actuator, solenoid valve, switch boxes, positioners or other accesso-ries separately.
The innovative nature of the product is emphasized by various patents for theway controls are integrated into the product, the contactless position sensingand feedback, and the design of the pneumatic control module. This inte-grated solution, versus a piecemeal approach, saves time and money bysimplifying product selection, installation, start-up, maintenance and up-grades.
The FieldQ also offers unrivalled flexibility. It incorporates newly developedintelligent technology to cope with present and future demands, although aflexible modular design enables the unit to be adapted to meet the end user'sindividual needs. Ideal for both basic and high-end applications the FieldQTMprovides easy handling and reliability.

Features
Patented Integration of Actuation, Control &FeedbackThe installation, commissioning and maintenanceof separate components are no longer required -as control and feedback are offered as integratedmodules, combined with the actuator.
Compact & Modular DesignModular construction also ensures flexibility, fastassembly and quick and easy future upgrades.
Push Button Auto-InitializationAutomatic setting of the position indicationswitches in a matter of a few seconds at the pushof a button.
Expands the Reach of your BusDigital communications are available for AS-inter-face, Profibus® DP, Profibus® PA andFOUNDATIONTM Fieldbus.
Intelligent DiagnosticsProvides alerts on actuator/valvecondition and makes mainte-nance easier to schedule.
Intelligent Position TrackingAccurate and reliable positioninformation is provided continuouslythrough the operating stroke for improved processcontrol.
Dual Stroke AdjustmentProvides precise adjustment of both valve end-positions.
Visual Position IndicationLarge full scale indication at a glance, which canbe turned 90° for in-line and across-line mounting.
Balanced Pinion DesignThis design uses seals with low surface pressure, low wear and ultimately low maintenance in highcycle applications.
Benefits
EasyThis pre-engineered "PLUG AND PLAY" solution, reduces engineering complexity and time by inte-grating control and feedback with the basic actua-tor. The push-button autoinitialization allows easyand fast set-up.
FlexibleThe flexible functions are delivered through modu-lar and scalable design. The splined inserts andthe standardized mounting pads allow directmounting to a wide range of rotary valves andensures backwards compatibility.
ReliableThe FieldQTM actuator is based on proven technol-ogy (installed base of over two million units) anddesigned for superior and safe performance over
time with over 1 million open/close cycles ofperformance.
IntelligentThe microprocessor based mod-ules have built-in function specificelectronics using low-power tech-nology. This integrated technologyenables bus communication and
auto-initialization. On top of thisthe FOUNDATIONTM Fieldbusand Profibus®-PA modulesoffer diagnostic capabilities.
Cost-effectiveInstalled cost savings can be achieved by this pre-engineered, integrated solution. It reduces cost ofengineering (no accessory bracket or couplingrequired) and procurement (single source of sup-ply). The ease of setting up the FieldQTM reducescost of installation and commissioning. Inventorycost savings can be achieved due to the modular, scalable design. Through enhanced operatingperformance and reliability, life-cycle cost savingscan be achieved. Life-cycle cost savings can alsobe achieved because of the reduced need formaintenance and increased plant and processavailability .

Insert mountingacc. DIN 3337
Centeringplate
DescriptionAll actuators are fitted with drive inserts. This enables actua-tors to be directly mounted onto suitable valves and elimi-nates the need for a bracket and coupling type mounting kit.The use of direct mounts significantly cuts the cost of thevalve/actuator assembly.
Standard actuators are fitted with square drive inserts inaccordance with ISO 5211 (or DIN 3337), but a wide varietyof other inserts are also available. Special inserts may haveoversize or undersize squares, double-D and shaft key wayforms.

Drive inserts can be supplied on factory built actuators or asloose items and are easily replaceable at distributor or enduser level.
Where direct mounts are not possible, for instance on valveswith exposed grand packing, the use of inserts often simpli-fies the design of the mounting kit.

Diagnostic capabilities of FOUNDATION™ fieldbus"Open / Closed" Function module
1.604.021
Diagnostics on FOUNDATION fieldbusThe FieldQ function module with FOUNDATION™ fieldbuscommunication has diagnostic capabilities.
These process parameters can give information about com-munication condition, valve and/or actuator unit. It enables topredict failures in advance and makes maintenance easier toschedule. The following diagnostics are available for theFieldQ:
1 Open Break Time & Close Break TimeBreak time is defined the time from when the command totravel is given and the corresponding switch changes statesindicating that the actuator has started travelling.
The software compares the instantaneous open and closebreak times to a base line time for each. Should the breaktime exceed a specified amount, the applicable test shall fail.
This will return the event action code:Check Valve System.
2 Open Travel Time & Close Travel TimeThe software compares the average open and close times toa base line average time for each. Should the average traveltime exceed a specified amount, the test shall fail.
This will return the event action code:Check Valve System Wear.
3 Time In PositionTime in position is determined as the amount of time that thevalve travel has been the same value, plus or minus a speci-fied amount (a.k.a. Deadband)."
For this test, time is measured in seconds by the device. Thespecified value shall have a typical default value that can bemodified by the user.
The software compares the Time in Position (TIP) Timer to aspecified value. If the actual value exceeds the specifiedvalue, the test shall fail.
This will return the event action code:Stroke test the Valve System.
4 Cycle CountFour cycle counters are available:1.Cycle Count Set Point - Counts how many times the set
point (read: controller) cycles (changed direction)2.Cycle Count Solenoid - Counts how many times the sole-
noid cycles.3.Cycle Count Actuator - Counts how many times the actua-
tor cycles.4.Cycle Count Valve - Counts how many times the valve
cycles.
The Cycle Counter test compares the current value of eachcycle counter with a specified value for each counter. The test fails if any of the cycle counters exceeds its specifiedvalue. The specified value shall have default values that can bemodified by the user.
Customer advantage:Provides indication of wear on the actuator/valve assem-bly
5 IO Communication failureThis feature provides an information to the user that thedevice is no longer controlling the actuator-valve assembly.
The following tests exists when an I/O board is used betweenthe bus interface board and the I/O termination:Board Fault:
This test indicates a fault condition within the I/O board, ascommunicated by the I/O board. Any fault informationpassed by the I/O board, as part of the fault communica-tion, shall be saved in memory for use by the event execu-tive.
Bad Communications:This test indicates when messages received from the I/Oboard contains errors when they are received. Communica-tion errors are defined by the communication mediumutilized. These could include faults such as bad CRC,framing error, parity error, etc.

Diagnostic capabilities of Profibus - PA"Open / Closed" Function module
No Communications:This test indicates a fault due to lack of communicationsfrom the I/O board. A lack of communications is indicatedwhen a message expected from the I/O board is not re-ceived within a certain period of time. The number ofmissed communications shall be stored in memory.

PneumaticControlModule
FunctionModule
Description:The Pneumatic Control Module is the pneumatic interfacebetween the function module and the actual actuator. It con-trols the incoming and outgoing airflow. The module is anintegral part of the actuator and is available in two basicexecutions:- Single acting (for spring return actuators)- Double acting
Valve blockThe module contains a valve block with two or four dia-phragm/poppet valves (for single acting or double actingexecutions) . The valves are operated by a pilot valve in thefunction module. To assure trouble-free operation, the valve block is equippedwith big ports. This enables a large air flow and to makes itless sensitive for contamination of the internals. The large airflow also enables it to be utilised for the entire FieldQ range.
Breather FunctionThe spring return models have standard a built in "Breather"function. During the spring stroke, the exhaust air from thecenter chamber is first fed to the spring chamber preventingair from outside from being sucked into the spring chamber. This reduces the possibility of internal corrosion and maxi-mizes the actuators' working life.
Optional Speed Control1.Single Acting actuators
Two integrated speed control options are available:1 Speed control for the spring stroke.2 Speed control for spring- and air stroke. These options are only available for single acting (springreturn) actuators.
2.Double Acting actuatorsSpeed control is achieved by fitting 1/4"BSP or 1/4"NPTexhaust throttles in one or both exhaust ports.
For more information on speed control see sheet 1.605.02.

Pneumatic control module with speed control
1.605.02
Speed Control on Single Acting actuatorsTwo integrated speed control options are available:1 Speed control for the spring stroke.
The speed control screw controls the air flow exhaust fromthe central air chamber and therefore the speed of thespring stroke.
2 Speed control for spring- and air stroke. The speed control screw controls the air flow in and out ofthe central air chamber and therefore the speed in bothdirections. The speed of spring- and air stroke are notindependently adjustable.
These two options are only available for single acting (springreturn) actuators.
Breather FunctionBoth versions have the built in "Breather" function. During thespring stroke, the exhaust air from the central air chamber isfirst fed to the spring chambers preventing air from outsidefrom being sucked into the spring chambers. This reduces thepossibility of internal corrosion and maximizes the actuators'working life.
Speed reduction on Double Acting actuatorsSpeed control is achieved by fitting 1/4"BSP or 1/4"NPTexhaust throttles in one or both exhaust ports.
Valve blockThe module contains a valve block with two (single acting) orfour (double acting) diaphragm/poppet valves. The valves areoperated by a pilot valve in the function module. To assure trouble-free operation, the valve block is equippedwith big ports.
This enables a large air flow and to makes it less sensitive forcontamination of the internals. The large air flow also enablesit to be utilised for the entire FieldQ range.

Top flange with NAMUR inter-face for feedback accesories
Aditional "NAMUR AdaptationPlate" for solenoid connection
FieldQ basic actuator with NAMUR adaptation plate.
DescriptionThe top flange of the FieldQ actuator is standard equipped with a NAMUR drilling pattern. The addition of a NAMUR adaptationplate it makes the FieldQ actuator suitable for mounting all kinds of NAMUR compatible control and feedback accessories likesolenoids, switch boxes or positioners.
Backwards compatibilityWhere the FieldQ is meant to be a integrated concept for valve automation, there are a number of reasons for having alsoNAMUR interfaces:Emergency repairs.- When the function module requires immediate repair and the process can only be stopped for a limited time, it would be
easy to mount standard available NAMUR accessories.Future updates- When a plant is not yet ready for digital (bus) communication but will be upgraded in the (near) future towards this technol-
ogy, it would be easy to mount standard available NAMUR accessories.Available equipment.- NAMUR compatible accessories are easy to acquire. Many suppliers offer accessories that can be fitted to NAMUR actuator
interfaces.
1.605.03 Oct 23, 03
ConstructionThe NAMUR adaptation plate is fitted in front of the actuatorpart of the FieldQ and replaces in fact the pneumatic controlmodule. The IPT sensor is covered by the NAMUR plate toprevent damage and make future upgrades to Conventional,Smart bus communication function modules possible.
Temperature rangesSpecial selected soft parts makes it possible to utilise theFieldQ actuator, with NAMUR plate, for various temperatureranges. Three temperature ranges are available:
- Option code 0 (Standard) :TS = 80°C (176°F) / -20°C ( -4°F)(NBR o-rings):
- Option code 1 (High temp) :TS = 120°C (248°F) / -20°C ( -4°F)(FPM o-rings)
- Option code 2 (Low temp) :TS = 80°C (176°F) / -40°C (-40°F)(MVQ o-rings)
Note:FieldQ actuators fitted with pneumatic control modules andfunction modules are not available for high temperature or lowtemperature applications.
