All childrenGo on a sound walk around the home. Grownups, help to create some different sounds e.g.
a tap running, the fridge humming, a door shutting people talking
Help the children say a word to describe the sounds e.g. drip, hum, bang, chatter.
Writing for a purpose - Write a shopping list – think about healthy and non-healthy foods.
All childrenWould you like watermelon, strawberries, chocolate biscuits and ice cream on your shopping list?
Make marks to show your shopping list. Grownups, ask your child to ‘read’ their marks back to you. Can they remember what they ‘wrote’?
Preschool children:Ask them to try to hear the sound at the start of the word; can they hear the ssss sound at the start of strawberries? Write S to show them what it looks like.
