It’s not often that you find a small town London busker coming through the ranks, already on the release of her 3rd album, but Alexis Spencer has proven that through hard work, determination, and the constant pressure of school life, becoming an Indietronica Sovereign is possible.

It all started in 2010, living in London, expensive, as we know. Busking on the side to make a lil’ bit of money for her family, ultimately, her breakthrough in the music Industry. “The music industry has taught me more than school ever has,” laughs the 19-year-old when asked how music has affected her personal life. Clearly unaffected as an immodest smile tells us she wants to go into more detail.

Born in Bow, Alexis Spencer gravitated towards music as a child. As a teen the likes of, Gorillaz, Mark Ronson & Justice became inspirational figures, courtesy of Father Spencer. “I was really into music as a child, I guess that’s just because my Father was in a tribute band and didn’t stop playing music!”

Spencer’s first faltered steps into professionalism was her first major release of, “Back in Time”, when she first was signed to UMG. The electronica-influenced album was well received by music critics who compared her work with the styles of Lana Del Rey & Sky Ferrerira, peaking at No.5 in Australia. “A lot of pressure came after that, being compared to such big names in the industry was great, but how was I supposed to follow on from it?” She questions, evidently aware of the success from such artists. “I’ll admit, it was hard, I never thought it was going to happen as fast as it did, and in the back of my mind I was constantly thinking that I could fail at any moment in time, and that would be the end”.

Her self doubt, then took a not-so-unexpected turn when her 2nd album dropped, topping that of the first in both New Zealand and Australia once again, however this time reaching number 2. “That was the biggest shock of my career”, she explains, as her facial features drop in a sense of contentment.

“The new album I have just produced is definitely my favourite of the three however the way people are going to react to it is another story...”. Spencer describes her new album as “different to the rest”, now in her comfort zone of producing music, she feels she is able to experiment much before, than when she started. “Once you’ve found yourself, you’ve found your fans, they’re with you every step of the way, which does make it easier, making me much more confident in myself to produce new music, as well as change it up a bit”.

So far this teenage sensation has done well for herself, we think she’ll continue to top the music industry, and whose to stop her?
