Study of Information Systems

in

Heavy Engineering Division

Page 2: Final Project PPT

Founded in Mumbai in 1938 by two Danish engineers, Henning Holck-Larsen and Søren Kristian Toubro.

1938- partnership firm, 1946- private limited, 1950- public limited company

 A technology-driven USD 12.8 billion multinational conglomerate.

Business interests in technology, engineering, construction and manufacturing goods.

35,000 employees all over the world.

Introduction

Deals with defense related projects. Based at Mumbai Manufacturing facilities at :

◦ Hazira (Gujrat) - Manufacturing◦ Ranoli (Gujrat) - Manufacturing◦ Kanchipurum (Tamil Nadu) - Manufacturing◦ Talegaon (Maharastra) – Manufacturing & integration facility

Challenge - Co-ordination among various manufacturing facilities & centralized decision making body at Mumbai

Baan IV ERP - ERP system◦ Used as a TPS & DSS tool

Concerto ◦ Used for CCPM (Critical chain project management)◦ Used as a DSS tool

ENOVIA MatrixOne PLM ◦ Used as KMS

Information Systems used

Page 9: Final Project PPT

Provided by Infor Global Solutions.

Various modules in Baan, being presently used: ◦ Planning & Procurement

PRP’s, MRP’s, Inventory check, delivery status, material withdrawal etc.

◦ Purchase Purchase order, vendor management, service requests,

payment clearance◦ Sales & Marketing

Sales Order, invoicing, D-notes etc.

Baan IV – ERP System

Page 10: Final Project PPT

Implementation of critical chain project management (CCPM).

All project plans are uploaded on central server.

Task managers

Periodic updation of the task status.

According to resource constraints the software re-calculates the project finish date.

Concerto

Page 11: Final Project PPT

Gives a complete picture of all in-progress projects to higher management.

Helps in predicting the future loading of manufacturing units.

Concerto (contd…)

Page 12: Final Project PPT

For managing all product information throughout product’s life-cycle.

Repository - All design documents & knowledge while subsequent manufacturing & installation of system.

Helps in providing post-sales service of the systems.

ENOVIA MatrixOne - PLM

Page 13: Final Project PPT

GUI - PLM

Page 14: Final Project PPT

Standard & customized parts in Baan imported from PLM.◦ Each part is associated with a design drawing.

◦ Prevents duplication of parts in ERP.

◦ Standardization of “part no” and faster processing by purchase function.

Interaction between ERP & KMS

Page 15: Final Project PPT

Planning Phase:◦ Project Plan in MS-Project

◦ Project Kick-off meeting with all concerned functions (Purchase, designing, manufacturing, marketing etc.)

◦ Revised plan as per the inputs from all functions is uploaded on “CONCERTO”

Designing Phase:◦ Design drawings correct in all respect are uploaded on

“Enovia matrix One - PLM” by designers.

Project Life-Cycle

Page 16: Final Project PPT

Procurement Phase ◦ Project manager downloads the “BOM (bill of materials)”

from PLM and makes “PRP (purchase request planning)” in Baan ERP for all items.

◦ Senior manager approves the PRP’s in the ERP system.

◦ Approved PRP’s are transferred to designate purchaser in purchase function.

◦ Purchaser makes a “PO (Purchase Order)” in the system.

◦ Purchase order is transferred to the vendor, mentioning all terms & conditions of delivery & payment.

Page 17: Final Project PPT

Manufacturing Phase◦ All the received raw materials are entered into the inventory

module of ERP and a “GRN (Goods Received Note)” is generated in the system.

◦ Shop floor withdraws material by issuing a “MR (Material Request)” in the ERP system.

◦ Shop-in-charge downloads all the design drawings from PLM and starts manufacturing.

Page 18: Final Project PPT

Quality Check ◦ Quality Inspector checks the conformance of manufactured

item with respect to drawings present on PLM.

◦ The items clearing quality checks is entered into the ERP system as “Finished Goods inventory”

◦ Dispatch ◦ Sales & marketing uses the ERP system to invoice the

deliverable goods.

◦ Goods are dispatched to customer sites with the requisite documents.

Page 19: Final Project PPT

ERP Old archaic UI, needs to be upgraded to recent versions i.e.

Baan V.

No integration of vendors in ERP - delays due to manual transfer of PO’s (purchase order) & invoices.

Inventory management, not completely migrated to Baan, A separate software, being used for material withdrawal – Inaccurate inventory data in Baan.

Recommendations

Page 20: Final Project PPT

ENOVIA MatrixOne PLM

Control over the documents being uploaded.

Bugs in the UI, leading to slow processing.
