The Spring Oak at Atlantic City Assisted Living Program and Social Program has developed a uniform application process. Williams requests those with an interest fi rst contact her directly. In addition to private pay applicants, those candidates cleared by Medicaid or a long-term care supplier must then undergo a physical evaluation by a physician and a Spring Oak registered nurse.

Potential residents must qualify by needing help with at least three activities of daily living (ADLs). These include bathing, transferring in and out of bed, toileting, arranging and setting medical appointments, transportation to doc-tors and reminders to take medications.

Gonzalez will oversee and manage the onsite social com-ponent. She says, "Our fi ve-hour program will be held from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. from Monday through Friday. Some activities will include arts and crafts or a movie and a daily lunch. These daily sessions are open to both our residents and the general public with either private payment or Medicaid."

The Grand Opening for the Spring Oak at Altantic City As-sisted Living Program and Social Program will be Wednes-day, March 1. See their ad on the back cover.

NEWS FROM THE OCEAN AT 101 BOARDWALK

The curved, once green building looms in the skyline in Atlantic City's northern Inlet neighborhood, a beautiful work in progress. The Ocean at 101Boardwalk was origi-nally constructed by the Army Corps of Engineers in 1964 to test its strength against a strong hurricane. In a half century, it has survived multiple owners and hurricanes, and today has a positive future. Purchased in 2011, the new owners have invested mil-lions into the property. For the new ownership, renaming it would refl ect its beachfront location. The comprehensive renovation of all 10 fl oors of the 349-unit, pet-friendly rental apartment complex should be completed in 2018. Four different apartment sizes/styles range from studios up to two bedrooms.

Monthly rental fees include gas, electric and water utili-ties. The Ocean at 101Boardwalk also provides 24-hour emergency maintenance, a fully-equipped fi tness center and secured card access. Renters must pay their own telephone and cable services. Covered and uncovered parking options add a small monthly fee.

As progress continues, Property Manager Jennie Williams is proudly announcing the launch of the new Spring Oak at Atlantic City Assisted Living Program (ALP) and Social Program on March 1.

Led by Executive Director Takola Gonzalez, the subsidiary will continue this program to help the elderly with many personal needs, while also offering recreational activities. Williams hopes to dedicate 20-25 units to this program within six months.

Williams states, "This is the best of both worlds for resi-dents who may need some assistance in their bathing, grooming, dressing, transport to medical appointments or taking medication. Any qualifi ed individual receiving Medicaid or long term care benefi ts, plus those able to pay privately, is eligible for consideration at The Ocean. Unlike many other communities with assisted living envi-ronments, The Ocean will accept Medicaid."

The daily ALP schedule operates from 8 a.m.-8 p.m.. On-site professionals will include registered nurses (RN), cer-tifi ed medication aides (CMA) and certifi ed nurses aides (CNA).

3/25 - Golden Nugget - Bacon Brothers: The Bacon Brothers is the American musical duo of Michael Bacon and Kevin Bacon. Although they have played music together since they were boys, the brothers have only been a working band since 1995. The Bacon Brothers also appear on Sandra Boynton’s children’s CDs Dog Train, and Philadelphia Chickens, on which they sing the title track. Their song “Chop Wood (Carry Water)” is on the soundtrack of the 2004 fi lm The Woodsman, which Kevin produced and starred in. Their song “When You Decide You’ve Stayed Too Long” is on the soundtrack of the 2003 fi lm Red Betsy. Kevin starred in and produced Loverboy with his wife Kyra Sedgwick, which Michael also scored.

3/26 - Borgata - America: America is a rock band, formed in England in 1970 by multi-instrumentalists Dewey Bunnell, Dan Peek, and Gerry Beckley. The trio fi rst met as sons of U.S. Air Force personnel stationed in London, where they began performing live. America achieved signifi cant popularity in the 1970s, and was famous for the trio’s close vocal harmonies and light acoustic folk rock sound. This popularity was confi rmed by a string of hit albums and singles, many of which found airplay on pop/soft rock stations. The band came together shortly after the members’ graduation from high school, and a record deal with Warner Bros. Records followed. Their debut 1971 self-titled album America, produced the transatlantic hits “A Horse with No Name” and “I Need You”; Homecoming (1972) produced the single “Ventura Highway”; and Hat Trick (1973), a modest success on the charts which fared poorly in sales, produced one minor hit song “Muskrat Love”. 1974’s Holiday featured the hits “Tin Man” and “Lonely People”; and 1975’s Hearts generated the number one single “Sister Golden Hair” alongside “Daisy Jane”. History: America’s Greatest Hits, a compilation of hit singles, was released the same year and was certifi ed multi-platinum in the United States and Australia. Peek left the group in 1977 and their commercial fortunes declined, despite a brief return to the top in 1982 with the single “You Can Do Magic”. The group continues to record material and tour with regularity. Their 2007 album Here & Now was a collaboration with a new generation of musicians who credited the band as an infl uence. America won a Grammy Award for Best New Artist at the 15th Annual Grammy Awards. The group has also been inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame and has received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
