The Proud and Deadly Award Ceremony will be held at Deniliquin High School in the Multi-Purpose Hall, and will commence at 10.30am. Miss Congram will be attending to represent our school. Behaviour Code for Students All classes will be looking at the Behaviour Code for students in NSW Public Schools this week. A copy has also been placed in this newsletter. Please ensure that you read through this document with your child. NSW Anti-bullying Strategy At school we are teaching students to be upstanders to bullying, and not bystanders. We know that being an upstander is the best way to stop bullying from occurring. Bullying involves behaviours that cause harm and is intentional, ongoing and repeated. At school we are working on a number of measures to ensure that we manage bullying behaviour and stop it from occurring. I would encourage all parents to attend the Bully Zero Foundation’s workshop on Monday 11 th November from 6.30pm-8.00pm. A parent survey is available by going to the following website: https://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/5231898/NSW-Anti- bullying-Strategy-parents-carers-survey Staff Professional Learning Finley Public School are continually striving for excellence and keeping up to date with the latest research is just one of the ways we as teachers improve our practice. Today Miss Lewis and Mrs Schifferle are attending a workshop to learn about Effective Reading and Vocabulary. I will be attending the NSW State Principal’s Conference and professional learning to upskill teachers to achieve and maintain higher levels of accreditation. Although it may feel inconvenient to have staff out of the school, it is important that we have access to quality professional learning to continue on our journey of school improvement and bring these ideas back to our school. Woolworths Earn & Learn Thank you to all those families who collected the Woolworths Earn & Learn stickers earlier this year. Our school received a 3D printer and storage trolley. This will be a great addition to our Science, Technology, Mathematics and Arts lessons. Thank you to Lindsey Searle for setting up the printer and trolley for us. P&C Meeting Thank you to all parents and carers who were able to make it to last night’s P&C Meeting. The next meeting will be held on Monday 25th November at 7.30pm. The P & C will be hosting a car boot sale on Saturday 16th November at the Finley Showgrounds please see the flyer in the newsletter for more information.

Public Education Foundation – Design a Card Competition The Public Education Foundation gives out hundreds of scholarships within public schools across Australia and each year they send out Christmas and Thank You cards to donors, supporters and volunteers. Students from Year 1-6 are invited to enter a competition to design a Thank You & Christmas Card for 2019. Students who are selected as winners will receive 25 copies of their card and the school will receive 100 printed cards. Winners will also be acknowledged with their name being published on the card and will be published on the Public Education Foundation Website. More details, including rules and judging criteria are available from the front office. Please submit all entries to the school office by Wednesday 13th November.

2020 Class Requests Planning has begun for the 2020 school year. If families have legitimate reasons, why their child/ren need to have special considerations as we plan for classes, please make your request in writing and place in an envelope addressed to the Principal. Requests must be in writing. We are unable to guarantee that we can fulfil your request, but will do our best to accommodate them where possible. Requests will need to be received by Friday 8th November 2019. Joffa’s Toon School On Thursday 7th November, Jeff Taylor will be visiting Finley Public School to run “Joffa’s Toon School”. All students will have the chance to participate and the best part is that there will be no cost to our families! Jeff’s books will be on sale for $15 each, should any students wish to purchase them. The workshops will teach students how to draw their very own cartoons, while focusing on resilience, thinking and listening skills. This is sure to be a great learning experience for everyone! High School Transition Finley High School will be holding two days for our Year 6 students to attend in preparation for their transition to High School. There will be a Taster Day, to be held on Thursday 14th November, and an Orientation Day on Tuesday 3rd December. Students will attend FHS for the whole day on both occasions. There will also be a Parent Transition Evening on Wednesday 6th November from 6-7pm. This will be an opportunity for parents to find out more about FHS and ask any questions.

High School Uniform A package of information in relation to the new Finley High School uniform for Year 7 students in 2020 will be sent home with all students in Year 6 today. If you have any queries in regards to this information please contact the high school office on 5883 1344 Bully Zero Foundation Visit All students across K-6 will attend workshops run by the Bully Zero Foundation on Monday 11th and Tuesday 12th November. The workshops will focus on Cyber Safety and Bullying prevention. The Foundation has been featured on all major TV stations and newspapers. We will be hosting a Parent workshop from 6.30pm - 8pm on Monday 11th November. I would encourage all parents and carers to attend the session. A light supper, as well as tea & coffee will be provided. If you able to attend, please RSVP to the school office for catering purposes. A formal invitation will be sent home to all families.

Laptop Bags We have a number of laptop bags for sale for $2. All bags are brand new and would fit a medium to large laptop in them. Please call into the front office if you would like to purchase a bag or see if they are suitable.

Excess Furniture The school has the following excess furniture available for sale 2 x bookshelves for $10 each, 1 x 2 drawer filing cabinet and a quantity of desks for $5 each There will be no holds and items must be paid for on collection. More items will continue to be available in coming weeks.

Uniform Lotto

We are coming into our second week of our new uniform lotto program.

Each student has been allocated a number and our

random number selector each day selects 4 numbers, if

that student is in correct school uniform they receive a ice

block. We hope this encourages our students to come to

school in the correct uniform

P & C News

Uniform shop

Summer is nearly here! With the change of season, please consider donating last year's uniform to the P&C second-hand Uniform shop. The shop is open Thursday mornings from 8.30am in the music room. Payment for uniforms needs to be made in cash. Dresses will be sold for $10, Shorts and Polo shirts for $5 each. Donations can be dropped off at the uniform shop or to the school office.
