This year has already been a far busier one than normal because of the flood situation. For many consecutive days our fore fight- ers were risking their lives and health to boat our employees to the water treatment plant so we could keep providing potable water. Since most of our fire fighters are volunteer this put a lot of strain on the companies they work for so I need to thank the companies who are great corporate businesses by their employees to serve our city through the Fire Department. Thanks also goes out to Chief Ron Tocker and Deputy Chief Dale Feser for their com- mitment and leadership to our city. The next time you see one of our fire fighters please let them know how much they are appreciated. We are certainly thankful of the great job they do. Since my office is next to the fire sta-tion I often hear the fire trucks leaving the station. It occurs a lot more than I would have imagined years ago. Also, with more traffic there are more accidents and they are often involved in case of rescue. This year has already been a far busier one than normal because of the flood situation. For many consecutive days our fore fight-ers were risking their lives and health to boat our employees to the water treatment plant so we could keep providing potable water. Since most of our fire fighters are

volunteer this put a lot of strain on the companies they work for so I need to thank the companies who are great corporate businesses by their employees to serve our city through the Fire Department. Thanks also goes out to Chief Ron Tocker and Deputy Chief Dale Feser for their com-mitment and leadership to our city. The next time you see one of our fire fighters please let them know how much they are appreciated. We are certainly thankful of the great job they do.

• On average, each year in Saskatch-ewan there is a total of 3,100 fi res. There are on average 600 residential fi res every year.

• The direct dollar loss as a result of fi res is approximately $47 million an-nually.

• A fi re death occurs on average every 22 days in Saskatchewan.

• 4 out of 16 annual fi re deaths are children and youth

• Approximately 70 fi re injuries are

reported annually in Saskatchewan. In addition, hospitals see many burn and scald victims who are not included in the 70 reported injuries.

• Cooking is the leading cause of fi re in the home.

• Careless use of smoking materials and children playing with matches/lighters are the leading cause of fi re deaths in the home.

• Cooking, heating and electrical fi res account for half of all home fi res.
