God bless Elvis, apple pie, John Wayne, Henry Ford & the V8 motor!

A note from the editor:

Ok... my friends have always thought I was crazy & were wondering why on earth I was starting a car magazine. Well frankly... I’ve been a lil bored... haha! The wife & I sold our real estate company a few years back so Ihave plenty of time on my hands. We produced have plenty of time on my hands. We produced a magazine for the company every 90 days so I’m pretty familiar with that end of the deal andwanted to do a more reader driven rag. I know expensive builds by expensive shops are niceto look at but I’ve always been more interestedin kats & kittens who turn their own wrenches, bust their own knuckles and spill a lil of their bust their own knuckles and spill a lil of their own blood into their project. That’s what our hobby has always been about and what we’re gonna feature; shows, reader’s rides, reader’s photos, clubs and more so let me know what you think or send photos of your ride, tats, clubs, burnouts or something you saw in traffic to... Lonestar Round Up

I wanted to feature Lonestar Round Up since I think it’s the most under-rated and under reported show out there! I’ve also seen other reports of the show and it seemed like they went to a whole different show than I went to so if you’ll indulge me... I want give a visual salute of the show I’ve come to love!

Round Up is presented by the Kontinential’s Car ClubRound Up is presented by the Kontinential’s Car Cluband sponsored by the Continential Club owned by Kontinential’s club member Steve Wertheimer. At nights, kats & kittens cruise and hangout up and down Congress Ave. in front of the Continental club. They set up lawn chairs, video tape and cheer on the parade that lasts until the wee hours.

To me, the coolest part of the whole show is it’s To me, the coolest part of the whole show is it’s incredible diversity. No matter what kind of car you like,(except for maybe ricers), there’s a large contigentrepresenting! Ratty’s.. check, traditional rods... check, gassers... check, kustoms... check, motorcycles...check, dragsters... check. As a matter of fact, there’s another whole show in the parking lot of cars that didn’t meet the pre-1964 entry limit. didn’t meet the pre-1964 entry limit.

Round Up started 12 years ago as a small show that was held near downtown Austin, Tx. on a grassy area. A few years back it rained for nearly a week before the show and the event was denied permission to use that area at the last minute so the show was relocated to the huge Travis County Expo Center. I was afraid theshow would get dwarfed by the venue, but cars just show would get dwarfed by the venue, but cars just kept showing up all day long and it turned out to be a blessing in disguise and has only gotten biggerevery year.

Austin has a vibrant live music scene and the Continental Club has a coast-to-coast reputation as the premiere club for live music in Austin since 1957.I always stay a couple of extra days after the car show to see some of the acts at the club after the big crowds have gone home. As you can imagine, Round Up features some awesome bands and Round Up features some awesome bands and Jimmy Vaughn was on stage this year. Junior Brown played at the club. And one of my favs played Sunday, Hey Bale, a western swing band that’s composed of a group of unbelievable Nashville studio musicians played for the ridiculious cover charge of only $5!

The Rev. Billy F. Gibbons usually has one of his cars there and there are multiple examples by Jesse there and there are multiple examples by Jesse James’ Austin Speed Shop. Enjoy!

When William and Mary Edmonds saw the carcass of this old fire truck sitting in a field in Carmine, TX, they knew they had to own and restore it. All that was left was the frame, running gear, cowl, hood and front fenders. Their sons helped fabricate all the rest. They found a similar truck, made a pattern from the seat and had that made. Many of the other parts were donated by other fire truck loversand friends. William was a fire fighter for 30 years and this just proves... you can take the fireman out of the truck but you can’t take the truck out of the fireman! take the fireman out of the truck but you can’t take the truck out of the fireman!

Tim Elliott’s dad had a shop working on import's when he was a kid and Tim started working on VW's when he was 10 years old. He saved this ‘67 Beetle

“parts car” from the crusher and knowing the top needed a lil massage, lowered

it 5 1/2 inches. He also extended the wheelbase by 10” and slammed in a 1850cc

mill that he built in the late 80's that’s running dual 2bbl 36mm Dellorato's! Tim

also ported the heads himself. The car’s also clicked off a 15.16 sec 1/4 mile.

Like many of you, I thought my project was only going to take 6 mths to a year to complete. Boy was I ever wrong! Always loved the ‘40 Standard front end and love trucks too. I found a ’41 truck carcass in pretty good shape with a straight frame and somehow it jumped up on my trailer & I felt obliged to drag it on home... how could I refuse?! My goal was to chop and channel a early 40’s era Ford truck, drop in asmokin’ big block Nailhead, strap on 3 deuces, throw in some bomber seats smokin’ big block Nailhead, strap on 3 deuces, throw in some bomber seats and hang a quick change rear end out back. I’ve built up other cars and trucks but since I worked so much I was never able to devote enough time to build one frame up. I started collecting the parts and when I retired a few years back, I started work! Five years later... here we are! ; - > I’m featuring my own car in the premier issue to show I’m not just a media type but a avid hot rodder too. I love getting out in the garage and gittin’my hammer, my welder and my spray can on! And I had plenty of help and my hammer, my welder and my spray can on! And I had plenty of help and advice from one of my favorite past times... car forums! I’m a member of the Rat Rods Rule forum and have learned more from the kats that hang out there than any other way. It’s great to know you can get an answer to any question in 10-15 min. or less! That’s where I met Jeff Bates, the Bonehead! He’s the guy who made my cow skull shift knob & air cleaners! Thanks again Jeff and the rest of you guys too!!! BoB
