Students will be exposed to:• Phonics- relationship between letters and sounds• Phonemic Awareness- working with sounds

(phonemes):blending, segmenting, and substituting• Fluency - reading accurately and smoothly with expression• Spelling - StoryTown patterns• Robust Vocabulary- introduced through StoryTown stories• High Frequency Words- Bedrock• Strategies for Reading Unfamiliar Words- picture clues, mouth

ready to make sound, stretch it out, look for chunks, reread, skip the word, etc.

• Skills- summarize (brief recap of story) and retell (story elements, details)

• Strategies of Strong Readers- questioning, making predictions, connections & inferences, etc.

2) Informative/Explanatory- topic, facts and closure- beginning aspects of research- procedural writing/“how to...”

3) Opinion - how we feel and think with reasons to support our opinions
