Pastoral Letter
What will I do when I first get to heaven and encounter God in all His glory? Will I bow down with my face to the ground? Will I raise my hands? Will I sing at the top of my lungs? Would I dance? I would probably burst out with a combination of everything listed above! I certainly could not resist to sing my heart out. How could anyone in God’s real presence not be completely captured by it. It would be impossible not to express with every fiber in our being our adoration to the Lord. In the Eucharistic Prayer we praise God by proclaiming with “angels and archangels and all the company of heaven” the Holy, Holy, Holy. We acknowledge in that moment that God is there and so is the company of heaven! Is this only during the Eucharistic Prayer? Is God only present when we partake in His Body and Blood? In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus says, “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” When we come together for Mass to worship God we are in his midst. It may not feel like we are in His presence like it will when we get to heaven or even when we are partaking in His body and blood but Jesus is there when we gather together at mass. It is this energy that I try to bring to mass when doing the music. I often fail. It’s difficult to leave the challenges of life and focus wholly on wor-shiping God. However, If I was worshiping God in all His Glory in heaven what would I do? How much passion and vigor would I bring? Could any of my problems distract me from the overwhelming presence of God? Here at St. Joseph over my last few years I’ve tried to build a team of tal-ented musicians who not only can help provide quality music but also bring passion to their worship in each mass. Our goal is to try to lead by example without fear of judgement but simply giving our best to God knowing full well that He is in our midst. As Lent begins this year let us try to imagine ourselves in His real presence. Let us try to worship Him as if we were surrounded by Him in all His glory in heaven. Let us participate more fully in all the parts of the Mass without consideration for who is around us, or what is going on in our lives.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS Bob Alvarado—Grand Knight
Naz LeBlanc—Membership
Meetings: 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month in St. Joseph Parish Hall at 7:00pm Social/Refreshments after Meeting
THE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS is providing $1.4 million to repair and help rebuild churches that were destroyed or badly damaged by the hurricanes and torrential flooding that devastated Texas, Florida and the Caribbean in 2017. In the months following Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria, Knights of Columbus Charities raised $3.8 million for disaster relief. More than $720,000 was used to pay for food, water and other critical supplies in the immediate aftermath of the storms. On a local level, many Knights took the initiative to rescue those stranded by rising waters, distribute food and supplies and help neighbors in a wide variety of ways. Funds have now been disbursed to rebuild at least 14 church buildings in Texas, Florida and the U.S. Virgin Islands. “Getting parish facilities up and running again does not just meet a practical need,” said Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson. “The people in the affected areas see the revival of their churches as a spiritual joy and as an important signal of recovery for the larger communities.” Significant sums are also earmarked for upcoming church repair efforts in Puerto Rico. The Order earlier donated $100,000 to the Archdiocese of San Juan and provided generators, food, water and other necessities to aid relief efforts. The Knights of Columbus also applauded the Jan. 2 announcement that houses of worship, like other nonprofits, are now eligible to receive federal disaster relief funding through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) — overturning a longstanding rule. The students prepare in role playing, music, singing, and the use of technology. Stations of the Cross presentations help our student to reflect on Jesus’ passion. We hope you can join us as Third Grade presents on Friday, February 16th at 2:15pm in the Church.

A Message from Your Faith Formation Coordinators:
Please take a prayer card for our Elect and Candidates who will receive the sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil Mass. They can be found in the
baskets by the exits of the Church. Pray each day for the name(s) you select, and consider dropping off a card of congratulations and Easter Blessings for
them. Directions are on the prayer cards. Thank you for your support for these members of our community.
The “Rite of Sending” the Catechumens and Candidates to their Election by Bishop Vann took place last Sunday at the 5 PM Mass. This special rite allows the parish community to express their approval for the progress made concerning the catechumens’ and candidates’ formation, and pledge of support in prayer and example.
On Saturday, February 17th, these catechumens and candidates appeared before Bishop Vann, where their sponsors and/or godparents attested to their intent and readiness to advance toward the Sacraments of Initiation. Thus, they became our “Elect” or chosen. As a pledge of fidelity, their names have been inscribed on the Book of the Elect, presented to the Bishop, who declares his approval of these candidates for initiation.
Pictured here are the Elect of St. Joseph Placentia, with their sponsors and/or godparents, at their Rite of Sending.
