Robotics
Congratulations to our Robotics team: Ethan Mills, Catherine Murphy, Mia Reno and Ryan Taylor for their participation at the First Lego League East StateChampionship at Carolina Forest High School on Saturday, February 13th. Forty-seven teams competed in this State Tournament, representing various easterncounties of South Carolina. Our Gators placed 23rd out of 47. Congratulations again on a job well done!
We'd also like to extend a big thank you to our Robotics coaches, Mr. Bernie Petkis and Mr. Ron Columbus for their dedication, support, talent, and countless hours in working with the students.
Fish Fry Dinner Tomorrow
Please join the 8th Grade Families from 5-7pm each Friday of Lent in Duffy Center. The cost is $12 and includes fish and chips with coleslaw and tea or water. The meal is dine-in or carry out. Proceeds will benefit the 8th grade class trip.
Due to the small size of our graduating class this year, we are offering a Fair Share opportunity to any parents willing and able to help work the event! www.SignUpGenius.com/go/10C0449ACAB2BA7FC1-fish
Calling All Families! The Auction Committee is seeking go-getters to help acquire donations for our upcoming auction! We also need assistance with our classroom art projects for the auction – which is a great way to earn Fair Share hours. If you are willing and able to help, please contact Meghan or notify the school office as soon as possible. Also, we are again offering advertising space in our auction program. Please see the last 2 pages of this edition of Gator Bites for our auction solicitation letter and the advertisement form. Printed copies of the letter and the form are available in the school office. If you should have any questions, please feel free to email [email protected] or call / text Meghan Dacar at (843) 957-3989.

Principal’s Note
Our school never stops moving in and outside of the classroom. We are continuing forward through the school year at what seems like a lightning pace. Things are progressing quickly for our upcoming Spring Auction, which will be held on April 9th. Our school play, Aladdin, is also coming together as students are practicing to memorize their lines and begin to explore costume options. Likewise, this warmer weather brings promises of spring.
Similarly, our 52-4-5 Campaign is off and running! This past week all families received 4 donor cards and 4 sets of coupons, one for yourself and 3 to challenge your family, friends, and neighbors to join the campaign. Please remember you can give any amount, but $52 is only 1 dollar a week and payment arrangements can be made! Thank you to everyone who has already donated!
Academically, we are in the second half of the third quarter, if you have not had the opportunity to check your child(ren)’s grades lately, this is the perfect time. I am so excited when I visit classrooms and see the great progress our students are making. It’s wonderful to see students who once struggled on their multiplication tables, who are now coming up with multiples so quickly and using this skill for adding and subtracting fractions. Our youngest learners are progressing well; their participation in school masses is quite impressive.
Our Chocolate Bar sale is winding down and we ask for any families who have outstanding boxes to please ensure the payment of $60 as soon as possible. As stated last week, our ice cream party for those students who sold 2 or more boxes will held be after the Lenten Season. Congratulations to our top sellers, and many thanks to all of you who participated in this fundraiser. Our top Chocolate Bar Sellers were Marin and Tony Raynor, who each sold 18 boxes! They will share the 5 pound chocolate bar!

Year of Mercy Mobile App
One easy thing you can do during this years, “Year of Mercy” is to install a new app called “365 Days to Mercy” on your mobile device. It’s a free app, and it includes daily reflections on mercy, Scripture reflections, Pope Francis’ tweets, the Divine Mercy Chaplet, and a lot of other things you’ll find helpful. It’s not complicated or time consuming – in just a minute or two a day you can read a little about mercy. Snap this code or go to OSV.com/YOM and install the 365 Days to Mercy app on your mobile device. It’s a great way to spend a little time each day during the Year of Mercy focusing on God’s mercy toward us, and learning how we can live more merciful lives.

Dear Community Member,
We are writing to ask your support in our upcoming Spring Auction. Each year, the St. Michael Catholic School PTO commits to raise a minimum of $35,000 to support the educational programs for the students. In August 2012, we became an Accredited School through AdvancEd/SACS and are excited about the opportunity to continue our educational excellence. Each spring, our PTO organizes a special evening comprised of both a live and silent auction with many exciting items to bid on. This event, which is our biggest fundraiser of the year, will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Kimbels Restaurant in Wachesaw Plantation.
We realize you must be selective in your choice of charitable donations and we sincerely hope you choose to support the children of St. Michael Catholic School. Your donated item(s) will generate immeasurable good will and publicity. It is also 100% tax deductible due to our 501c3 status. Your generous support will be acknowledged at every opportunity, including our auction Facebook page, Parish Bulletin, Spring Auction program and the weekly parent newsletter. Upon receipt of the item(s), a formal letter of confirmation and appreciation for your tax purposes will be sent to you.
To participate, please mail your item to:St. Michael Catholic School
