United Societies of Balkans (U.S.B.)
United Societies of Balkans (U.S.B.) is a nonprofit, nongovernmental
organization based in Thessaloniki, Greece working in the field of
youth mobility, participation and facilitating youth awareness about
social issues. It was founded in 2008 by the inception of a group of
active young people who wanted to address the social issues which
affect the youngsters in the Balkans and Eastern Europe. The vision of
the organisation is the promotion of youth mobility, youth involvement
and participation, voluntarism and human rights. U.S.B. has
implemented successfully more than 40 youth and other projects about
many different subjects, having hosted more than 2,600 youngsters in
Greece. Moreover it has been involved in more than 1000 youth
projects and has prepared and sent around 2,000 youngsters abroad
to youth mobility projects. USB is also a very active organisation in the
field of EVS. Since 2009 it has hosted 180 volunteers in projects of 10
months and has sent 35 volunteers abroad. From 2013 USB

coordinating organization for the EVS hosting projects of Fix In Art.
Anazitites Theatrou
Anazitites Theatrou is a notforprofit organisation located in
Thessaloniki,, Greece that aims to foster sustainability, creativity,
tolerance and social inclusion. Anazitites Theatrou organises and hosts
training courses, seminars, workshops and meetings regarding arts and
crafts, culture, rewarding recycling and literature. It hosts all kinds of
art.
Our mission is to create an inspirational space where we find new ways
to lead sustainable lives, communities, households and businesses. A
home for creativity in all its form.
The association puts a special focus on the development of educational
and cultural projects, promotion of nonformal, social and creative
entrepreneurship and networking between organizations in order to
exchange experience and boost their potential. Anazitites Theatrou
fosters youth participation, intercultural learning, active citizenship, but
also art and culture which it more often uses as its main working
method. Within the association's activities, the principles of tolerance to
diversity, open discussion, active initiatives, shared experiences,
volunteering; nonformal education and informal learning are
encouraged.
The association is hosted in one of Thessaloniki’s historical Monuments
in an old beer factory with endless possibilities for individuals and
groups for up to 500 people. In this space, organizations, social
entrepreneurs and artists can host their own courses, events or plan
their rehearsals. Anazitites Theatrou will offer courses in zero waste,
creativity, yoga, upcycling, dancing, theatre, and visual arts.
Fix In Art project
FIX in art is more an idea than a place. The cultural association
“Anazitites Theatrou” , was founded in 2010 in a very small place at
Agion Panton street, and FIX in art is the new generation. When the
association relocated in the premises of the old FIX factory, an artistic /
creativity hub “FIX in art” was born.
This alternative “art-space” includes
3 dance halls
2 theatre halls
Crafting workshop
Library
Fairground
Theatre of 300 seats
Volunteers tasks
The organization operates on a daily basis (09.0022.00) as a cultural
expression space, arts, freedom of expression and communication
among young people. The office provides information on European
programs through which the European mobility promoted, personal
development, the spirit of volunteering and training. The action "FIX IN
ART" in which young people will mainly be involved contains several sub
actions.
The first is to support the artistic workshops carried out in the
organization on a permanent basis and after completion to propose and
implement with the support of experienced volunteers, a workshop of
their own interest.
FIX in art hosts several workshops among which are: Ballet, Jazz, Yoga,
Salsa, Latin, Zumba, Oriental, BollywoodKathak, Flamenco,
Brazilian, Martial arts Najitsu, Studio Opera house, Theatrical workshop,
Biodynamics workshop, Cinema, Recycling art, Mosaic workshop,
Decoupage workshop, Handmade jewellery, Silver and goldsmithery.
The second concerns the implementation of psychopedagogical
activities for children and young people both in the area of the
organization or outdoors to raise awareness and educate young people
on social issues that concern them, but other children and young people
in Europe.
The third concerns the collection, archiving, promoting the library which
numbers several books, that friends and members donated and it is
updated daily.
The last action has to do with the preservation of Fix factory, construction
of several spaces, cleaning the area.
Hosting conditions
Volunteers will stay inside the cultural centre in a dormitory that has
been created for hosting volunteers from abroad. The facilities are fully
equipped with furniture, airconditioners and independent heating
system. There is also internet connection to the whole area.
Volunteers are responsible for cleaning and preserving their
accommodation.
Budget policy
The participants take 140 euro at the beginning of each month and
their pocket money (100 euro). Due to the capital controls the last
years in Greece, the organization cannot pay the volunteers in cash,
so the payment is made through bank transfer. Volunteers are not
receiving extra money for their transportation as the accommodation
and the office are are in the same premises.
Insurance and health
The participants have private insurance by SIGNA, which covers all
their needs for the whole duration of their project and even after that
(for a few months). The registration to the insurance is made by the
Sending organization. We already have created a network of doctors
and hospitals for all their needs, so we can immediately serve their
needs, even the most emergent.
Greek courses
The volunteers can take part in online language courses through the
online linguistic support platform of the Erasmus+ programme,
http://erasmusplusols.eu/ with the support of the mentor.
Daily work
The volunteers will work for 8 hours per day. Every Monday there is a
meeting with the coordinator and every Friday with the mentor (with the
mentor either individual or group meetings), to check the working plan of
the previous week and schedule the working plan of next week.
Days off
The participants have 20 working days free, apart from the national and
religious official holidays of Greece. If they work hard on their tasks, the
mentor and the coordinator may give them more days off, as a reward.
Cooperation between the CO, SOand Ho organisations
It is very important, for the achievement of quality outcomes of the
project, a very close cooperation to be present between the coordinating,
sending and the hosting organisation.
The sending organisation has to communicate weekly with the volunteers
and keep a report of their educational process, their daily life and other
issues. The Sending has to share with the Hosting points of their
discussion, something that also the Hosting should do with the Sending.
