EZZ STEEL’S HOT STRIP MILL FACILITIES
Dekheila
Ezz Steel began operations in Dekheila in 1987 and has grown rapidly
in technological advancements and production output ever since.
Ezz Steel’s Dekheila plant houses CSP technology that only a handful
of other mills worldwide utilize. Ezz Steel’s operating performance is
remarkable by any standards.
The company’s original Rebar plant had
a nominal output of 745,000 tonnes per
annum. With continued innovation and
expansion, current annual capacity
is 1.7 million tonnes of steel rebars.
The Dekheila mill is internationally
competitive and exports profitably a
significant percentage of its annual
production.
The transition to HRC products in 2000
was an aggressive one and Ezz Steel’s
HRC products, hands down, are among
the world’s top manufactured steel
products.
The investment in HRC products
embraces a series of major projects.
In addition to the Hot Strip Mills,

control measure that the company
has perfected over the years.
Automation Controls
Plants are designed with the most up-
to-date automation levels that control all
process parameters to yield the perfect
strip; i.e. homogenous sheet both across
the width and length of the coil:
thickness, width, flatness control and
surface quality (consistent dimensional
accuracy).
Laminar Cooling
Control of steel metallurgical properties
is achieved through the laminar cooling
system, which affects the product
microstructure. The result of this

EZZ STEEL’S HOT STRIP MILL FACILITIES
Ain Sokhna
Less than 30 kilometers from Suez and its international ports, Ain
Sokhna is situated on the western coast of the Red Sea. A once arid
desert region with vast mineral resources, the Ezz Steel Ain Sokhna Hot
Strip Mill is a pioneering facility in steel production. With an output of
1.2 million tpy, this thin slab casting mini-mill commissioned operations
in October 2002.
Built to be export-oriented, the mill’s
vision and continual focus is on
maximizing its production capabilities,
reducing costs and supplying high
quality, value-added products. The plant
has strategic transportation links,
providing important logistical advantages
for receiving raw materials and shipping
finished products to its clients.
The project design is based on the mini-
mill concept, producing liquid steel by
melting scrap and DRI. Other units
include a thin slab continuous caster, a
hot strip rolling mill and finishing lines
with a capacity of 1.2 million tpy of HRC.
The plant utilizes conventional,
technological and innovative features
designed to enhance its capabilities and
operational flexibility, producing strip
thickness from 1.2 mm to 12.7 mm and
widths from 800 mm to 1,600 mm.
Ain Sokhna’s mini-mill utilizes a thin
slab continuous caster that applies
dynamic soft reduction to liquid steel
produced by melting scrap and quality
DRI from its sister plant in Dekheila,
which has a three million tpy of Midrex
capacity. Equipped with the latest steel
making process the steel industry offers,
the mini-mill effectively guarantees
product satisfaction.
