TIME FLIES...

In 1971, brothers Wayne and Earl Fletcher had a vision of owning a business; so on a wing and a prayer they mortgaged their homes and took ownership of an antiquated wood mill that once served as a blacksmith shop for the New Vineyard, Maine locals. Many of the simpler items which the Fletcher brothers began manufacturing included wooden nickels, tool handles and toy parts, which are still being manufactured at the modernized Maine Wood Concepts mill today.

Since 1994 the business has been owned and operated by Wayne’s sons Doug, Gary and Jody. All 3 brothers worked at the company for years before taking ownership, slowly graduating from sawmill workers, to machine operators, to mechanics, to supervisors and finally owners. Consequently the second generation of Fletchers know their business from top to bottom and they are quick to credit their dad and uncle for the wisdom they had in requiring them to learn the business in such an intimate way. Currently around 100 people are employed at the factory located in the western mountains of Maine.

Today the Fletcher family business has its own modernized sawmill where the logs are purchased from local loggers and processed into boards, squares and dowels. The wood is then dried in one of 6 kilns. Once prepared the wood is then introduced into the manufacturing facility where it is turned or molded into one of thousands of various items the mill produces. As Doug Fletcher likes to say "From raw logs to the finished product the entire process is done in house and under a watchful eye. That is why the Fletchers are proud to say Made in Maine, Guaranteed for Life."

It’s hard to believe we already have three full years behind us; yet here we are entering into our fourth year with the Fletchers’ Mill Gourmet line. In 2014 we added forty two new items and in 2015 we got even more aggressive and added an additional 53. We are continuing that trend again in 2016, as we are introducing 23 new products and colors. In addition, we continue to update and improve our existing designs. We have made design changes to our Rolling Pins that help assure consistent spacing between the Handle and Pin Barrel. In addition, we have improved the "Lock & Grind" retaining mechanism on our pepper and salt mills. About FLETCHERS' MILL

One of the newest trends for restaurants is farm to table. Offer locally grown food directly from small farmers to their tables. Fletchers’ Mill has used this same approach for many years, only forest to table. Our solid wood gourmet products are manufactured in Maine from the finest New England hardwoods. All of our wood is from sustainably harvested sources. We then make sure the wood is dried to the proper moisture content to ensure it won’t warp or crack. All of our sawdust and scrap is recycled and used in a variety of products, including wood pellets used to heat many New England homes. We are proud to have an amazing local work force who manufactures each of our products like they are going into their own homes.
