Detail photos:Good details are decisive for a well-working kitchen. Large, simple D type handles make it possible to use fingers or the whole hand to open the cupboard.

Safety is the alpha and omega. The electrically height-adjustableworktops are provided with safety stops preventing injury by crushing when the table is lowered.

Height-adjustable wall cupboards offer functionality in the kitchen. The cupboards may be adjusted up or downward or diagonally down and forward – depending on the need of the user. Automatic safetystops ensure that kitchen utensils do not get squeezed between worktop and wall cupboards. The worktops may be adjusted individually.

Opposite page: Standing and seated users can work in the kitchen together. The table frames are either wall-mounted or free-standing. The wall cupboards may be adjusted vertically or diagonally up/downward or in a combination of the two.

Since 1967 ROPOX has developed and manufactured height-ad-justable tables – primarily intended for users needing rehabilitation. And over the past 25 years we have acquired comprehensive knowledge and experience in the development of flexible, height-adjustable kitchen systems offering elderly and disabled people a more active and independent life. In ROPOX we endeavour to design our solutions to meet the needs and requirements of users, occupational therapists and physiotherapists – down to the last detail. This applies to equip-ment for rehabilitation and for use in private homes, workplaces, hospitals and care homes where flexible equipment facilitates the activities of daily life.

Owing to our long experience we fully appreciate the increasing market demands on design and function. Only by challenging our-selves we can continue to be market leaders when talking about user-orientation, choice of products and technique. This is why the ROPOX products are now recognised and appreciated worldwide for their high quality, flexibility, safety and user friendliness.

“Better ways to better days” – this is the basic philosophy of ROPOX.

KitFrame – the flexible system for institutions and private kitchens

The ROPOX unique KitFrame system is ideal for training kitchens as well as kitchens in hospitals, care- and private homes.

KitFrame is a high-quality stable and safe system with modules that may be combined into a variety of individual solutions: For instance, the modules may form the basic elements of a large flexible training kitchen where several sections and wall cupboards are to be adjusted in height independently of each other. The KitFrame system is also the ideal solution in the private kitchen where a couple of base cupboards may be replaced by a single height-adjustable workplace with sink and hotplates, thus making the kitchen suitable for both standing and seated users.

Also a complete exclusive kitchen layout with the highest degree of flexibility is available. The wall cupboards may be adjusted to a suit-able distance from the worktop ensuring that the upper cupboard shelves are within the reach of the seated user. Also the height of the base cupboards may be adjusted for users with special require-ments. In that case KitKombi will be the solution.

The wide variety of combinations make it easy to choose the optimal solution.

Detail photos:The pull-out board under the ovenprovides support for the arms and may be used for depositing things. The worktop is adjustable in heightto allow pulling out hot things on the table – without lifting. The oven door is side-hung.

Control buttons for adjustment of worktop and cupboard heights and the operation of ceramic hotplates may be placed in the front of the table. The buttons are easy to read and operate.

Free legroom under the worktop isdecisive for wheelchair users andpersons, who have to sit down now and then.

Opposite page:The hotplates are installed in theheight-adjustable worktop and may be adjusted to suit both stan-ding persons and wheelchair users.

The ROPOX KitFlex system is specially designed for kitchens in rental housing and buildings for elderly and disabled people. Kit-Flex is ideal for small kitchens and offers an economical solution in sheltered dwellings where height adjustment of worktops and wall cupboards is required now and then: For changing users, when a new resident moves in or when the need of a user changes.

The system is easy to install and to adjust. Worktop and wall cup-boards are mounted on height-adjustable frames and fastened directly to the wall. The height of worktop and wall cupboards may be quickly and easily adjusted by means of a separate lifting unit, which can be operated by the care assistant or the janitor. Only one lifting unit per building complex will be required.

By means of his lifting unit the janitor may adjust the worktop of one resident and the wall cupboards of another resident so that the shelves are within the user’s reach – and no dismounting or emptying of the cupboards will be required prior to adjustment.

KitFlex – the system that may be lifted with one hand – is a func-tional, flexible and economical solution saving the expense of a workman to adjust the modules.

Detail photos: The single-lever taps or long lever taps are ideal for users with reduced strength in hands, arms and shoulders.

The height of the KitFlex system may be adjusted quickly and easily by means of the lifting unit – by the care assistant or the janitor.

Opposite page:KitFlex is the optimal and mosteconomical solution for senior housing and sheltered dwellings, when the height of the kitchen modules must be adjusted to suit the need of the individual user.

Short distance between hotplates and sink makes it possible to push a pot from one element to the other.

Mobile cupboard modules offer a flexible layout and provide extra worktop. Note that the users are not always able to remove the modules themselves.

General recommendations: • For heavy work – e.g. kneading dough – the worktop should be approx. 25 cm below the height of the elbow, whereas for light work a table height of approx. 5-10 cm below the elbow height is recommendable. • For wheelchair users the table height should be approx. 20-25 cm above the seat to allow room for the users thighs. • Lowest comfortable reach in base cupboards: Approx. 40 cm.• Note that wide base cupboard doors hamper the passage when opened. • Also wide wall cupboard doors should be avoided as they take up space in the room and impede opening of the cupboard.

ROPOX height-adjustable kitchen systems may be ad- justed and adapted to obtain the individually correct working height.

Ergonomics in the kitchen space requirements, working and reach height

* General recommendation – calls for legroom at least one place under the table.** Ideal area (minimum for an electrical wheelchair) in the case of fixed base cupboards.

Turning radius etc.: Turning radius: Length: Width:Manual wheelchair: 170 cm 95-120 cm 58-70 cmElectrical wheelchair: 210 cm 110-135 cm 65-78 cmRollator: 140 cm 80 cm 70 cm

The accessible kitchen must have sufficient floor space for wheelchair users and persons with rollators to pass and turn around. Also suitable working height and reach are imperative for appropriate working postures in the kitchen.

ROPOX kitchen systems may be adapted to suit seated and standing users as well as the specific training situation.De-pending on the available room the layout may be as follows:

One-sided kitchen:• Two persons may work side by side, but the kitchen is not suitable for walking-impaired persons or wheel- chair users.

Two-sided kitchen: • Walking-impaired persons may lean on both sides, but heavy

things must be transported across the floor. Sink and hotplates should be on the same side.

L-shaped kitchen: • A standing person and a wheelchair user may work in the kitchen together. It is easy for wheelchair users to move around, but the shape is not suitable for two wheelchair user.

U-shaped kitchen: • A pot may be pushed/pulled from hotplates to sink. Turning space for wheelchair users and free legroom under the table must be provided.

Flexible design and layout for seated and standing users

One-sided kitchen

Illustrations:Sink, fridge, preparation area and cook-ing area should be arranged in a working triangle with short distance between the elements. Through-going passage in the working triangle should be avoided.

Better ways to better dayslayout recommendations – kitchens for everybody

Detail photos:Glass shelves in the wall cupboards facilitate identification of the contents.

Kitchen drawers offer more accessible room and should be preferred to cupboards. The drawers should have smooth-running rails with full pull-out allowing survey of the contents – and facilitating removal of kitchen utensils and food from the drawer.

The depth of the kitchen sink should not exceed 10 cm. The bottom of the sink is insulated to prevent scolding of the thighs of the seated user. The drain should be placed at the back of the sink.
