Earlier in the day on Friday, May 20th, another group

of students celebrated a milestone…...Kindergarten

Graduation. Fifty-four five year old students crossed over

into a new journey where they can look forward to school

years of friendships, athletics, fine arts, chapels, and learn-

ing to serve others by using their God-given talents and

skills.

The kindergarteners presented a program that gave

family and friends a glimpse of what they had learned this

school year. They sang, read, and played bells to a variety

of songs.

First grade teachers, Esther Berry, Natalie Hardy and

Kayla Dougherty stopped by to share with the families

what is ahead in first grade and how they can begin prepar-

ing their children this summer. Reading is a key to effec-

tive learning and the teachers strongly encouraged parents

to have their children read throughout the summer.

Following the presentation of the diplomas, the young

graduates and their families celebrated their year with a

class party. Elementary Principal Sandy Bryant an-

nounced that Josh Miles could not be with his class on this

day due to having to undergo medical treatment. Mrs. Bry-

ant asked that everyone pray for Josh and his family.

Mrs. Skelton’s class wore orange ribbons which signify

support of those affected by leukemia.

They wore them in honor of Josh.

The 3K and 4K stu-

dents ended their last

day with a presentation

of songs and recita-

tions that reflected

some of the things they

learned this year. Both

grades performed in

front of a full house

of family and friends.

Once again, Florence Christian School experienced a

great school year. Below you will see many of the accom-

plishments and activities of our students. On May 20th,

FCS reached a milestone—our 1000th graduate received her

diploma. Through our graduates, FCS has had the opportu-

nity to impact the world for Christ, and to God be the glory.

Next year, we will be celebrating our 40th birthday. For

forty years, FCS has been offering “Distinctly Christian~

Academic Excellence” to families of the Florence area. I have had the unique privilege of

seeing God work at FCS. I began attending FCS as a first grader in the mid 1970s. When I

started school at FCS, there were only two buildings on the property. During middle school, C

Building was completed, and while at college, the Worship Center was completed. Since

returning to FCS as a teacher in the early 90s, I have had the privilege to see the Preschool

building, ministry center, and athletic facilities built.

It is very apparent that God has blessed the Florence Baptist Temple and FCS physically.

More important, however, is the fact that I have been privileged to see the spiritual blessings

God has chosen to give FCS. I have had the opportunity to see souls saved, lives changes, and

the world impacted by Florence Christian School. I hope you will all be able to join us next

year as we celebrate God’s faithfulness to Florence Christian School. We look forward to a

great year in 2011-2012.

Sixth grade students took an

out-of–state trip to Florence,

Kentucky in April for a three

day venture. Their expedition

began at the Creation Mu-

seum where the 46 students

and 23 chaperones camped

overnight in the museum. The

students and chaperones

later spent free time at

the Laser Adventure

with the group and

spoke to the students on

the boldness of their

SPRING ATHLETICS

The Varsity Baseball team lost to

Wilson Hall in the 2nd round

of SCISA-AAA State Playoffs. Our

squad was young this year...we did however have several positives throughout the season including defeating Ben Lippen in the opening round of State Playoffs.

Next year should be exciting considering eight of our nine starters will be return-

ing. I would like to send congrats to Coach Harris for receiving “Coach of the

Year” in both tennis and soccer this year. A job well done! Coach Scotty Keefe~

The JV Eagles Baseball finished their 2011 season with an 8-4 record. We

had a great season and experienced many opportunities to grow as a team and as

individuals. Several players received awards for their exemplary efforts during the

season. Those players included: Denton Lee, Deonte Arceneaux, Hunter Eason,

and Adam Hill. Thank you gentlemen for your participation during the season.

Coach Shane Ridgeway-

The goal of the 2011 season was to "Always

Compete" our way into another 10

win season, and most desirably another region

championship! For the second year in a row, I'm proud to say we finished 10-5 and were crowned back-to-back REGION CHAMPS! In fact, we

swept the region with a 6-0 record. The emphasis this year was "Always Compete".

The heart of this philosophy is doing your best and executing as opposed to making excuses. It was awesome to see the guys embrace that philosophy in practices and

matches. Senior leadership was crucial this year. I'm real proud of Mason, Zach

Hearne, Hunter, Jay, Chris, June, and Zach Greenawalt. We could not of ac-complished what we did without their leadership.

Two of our seniors played in the North/South Allstar game where I had the privilege to lead the South team as the head coach. In

closing I'd like to thank Mason and Zach H. for their 5 years of

devotion to me and the program. It has been an honor to coach you guys! I'm looking forward to another great season with the

younger guys. "Always Compete.”

Coach Terrance Harris-

Baseball: Brandon Baggette. Soccer: Mason Hattaway, Zach Hearne, Hunter Lowe. Tennis: Alyssa Holbrooks.

TERRANCE HARRIS SCISA “ Coach of the Year” TENNIS SOCCER

This softball season our Lady Eagles

Varsity team featured one Senior,

Brittany Evans, and many underclassmen who played key posi-

tions. They played hard this season finishing with a record of 12-10...with the experience gained this year, we hope to make a run in the state tournament next

year. The Junior Varsity team was a young team that showed much potential for

the future program. I encourage the girls to keep working hard and this summer practice on hitting and conditioning! We look forward to a great season in 2012… Coach John Brown-

Baseball: Brandon Baggette, John Kent Smith, Zach Herndon. Golf: Micah Gold. Softball: Tori Gaskins, Alyssa Holbrooks. Soccer: Mason Hattaway, Zach Hearne, Hunter Lowe, Gordon Mattison. Track/Field: Meagan Wright.

CHRISTIAN CHARACTER

The first year of the FCS golf team was very suc-

cessful. The team members represented Florence

Christian very well. We won a few matches and we were very competitive in our

region matches. The golf team was young, and I look forward to the future of this team. With work and dedication, FCS could be a force in our conference over the

next few years. Coach Robert Hardy-

To excel at distance running, like any challenging

endeavor in life, takes hard work. I asked my ath-

letes to run hard, to run often, to endure fatigue and

pain, to push themselves to be better than they were the day before, and to keep coming back for more. – They did!

I asked my athletes, especially the new ones, to overcome the self-doubt and

fear engendered anytime an athlete is pushed to the limit, not to mention doing it while faced with competing with older more experienced athletes and programs. –

They did!

The support for one another, the attitude before and after the races, and the

endeavor of the athletes not only at the smaller SCISA meets, but also at the large

75-100+ public school meets was exemplary. I am proud of the team and congratu-

late them on their effort and for a job well done! Coach Andy Rush—

Senior Ginny Gause and Junior

Christopher Coker received the Ath-

letic Christian Character Award. This

award is given to the female and male

athlete who displayed a Christ like atti-

tude on and off the field or court through-

out the year.
