Science:On your daily walk or in your garden, look out for a microhabitat e.g. under a log, near a pond or a small patch in your garden. Look for what animals or plants live in that microhabitat and why the animals might have chosen to live here.

Computing:Pick a habitat (it could be one you learnt about during the week) and research how the animals and plants that live there survive. Use the fact finder sheet to record your findings. In the boxes which have no lines you can draw pictures instead of writing if you would like to.

Dear Year 2

Today I reached the edge of a vast, red canyon named

the Grand Canyon. I could feel the warm breeze brushing

past my face and was excited to explore. First I scurried

around the winding paths at the top of the canyon and

through the prickly cacti. Surprisingly, there were so

many other animals there and lots of people surrounding

me so I was worried that I may be attacked or trodden

on. After a while, I managed to find a quiet place where I

had a delicious lunch of beetles and flies. They weren’t

quite as good as scorpions but close!

This is a great place but I wish I could show you around. It

is not the same without you all!

For this activity we would like you to show us how you can find a half using items from around your house. You could split your toy cars into two equal groups, maybe share out some sweets with someone in your family into two equal groups or maybe cut your toast into two equal parts for your breakfast. Write a postcard to your friends and family about one of your days at home during the lockdown. Include description such as what you could see, hear and feel. Think about what you did. Try to use different words to start your sentences. You could choose a different way to end your postcard like Sunny did. You may also wish to draw a picture for the other side of the postcard.

A microhabitat is a very specific, small home environment for plants, animals or insects. An example of a microhabitat could be a pond, trees or under a stone or log.

On your daily walk or in your garden can you find a microhabitat?
