Task 3: Task 6: Task 9: Task 12: Task 15:Geography:This half term’s topic is based on survival, watch the following clip which will tell you about habitats.

https://youtu.be/ZrSWYE37MJs Once you have watched the clip, match the animal to the habitat it lives in.

Art:Design a suitable habitat for an animal of your choice. In your design think about the climate this animal lives in, the surroundings and food source the animal needs to survive.

D&T:Bring your habitat design to life! Using your design from yesterday, create your habitat in your garden or by using recycling from around your home.

Share it with your teachers on Seesaw.

Science:On your daily walk or in your garden, look out for a microhabitat e.g. under a log, near a pond or a small patch in your garden. Look for what animals or plants live in that microhabitat and why the animals might have chosen to live here.

Computing:Pick a habitat (it could be one you learnt about during the week) and research how the animals and plants that live there survive. Use the fact finder sheet to record your findings. In the boxes which have no lines you can draw pictures instead of writing if you would like to.

Please read or listen to the story of Meerkat Mail by Emily Gravett.

This story has been uploaded on to the Year 2 page on the website or it can be found as a video on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DcwuTRQ16MU).

As you read or listen to the story, think about the following questions. You could talk about your answers to someone else or write your answers down.

Questions to think about

Why doesn’t Sunny like where he lives?

What do you think Sunny’s mum would think when she reads the note to say Sunny has left?

Why do you think Sunny’s family normally keep look out?

Normally at the end of a postcard or letter someone would write love from, from, yours faithfully or yours sincerely. Why does Sunny write ‘Yours Ticklishly’ and ‘Yawns Faithfully’ at the end of the postcards?

Do you think Sunny has enjoyed his time with other members of his family? Why?

How do Sunny’s feelings change through the week?

What do you think Sunny has realised when he gets to the end of the week?

Bramley Church of England PrimaryTask 7: The purpose of a postcard is to tell the person you are writing to about the place you are visiting and what you are doing there.

Below is a postcard, please find all the things it has in it which tells the reader about where the character has been. You might show this with or by underlining or lightly colouring it.

Then find some examples in the postcard of each of the word types on the table below.

Dear Year 2

Today I reached the edge of a vast, red canyon named

the Grand Canyon. I could feel the warm breeze brushing

past my face and was excited to explore. First I scurried

around the winding paths at the top of the canyon and

through the prickly cacti. Surprisingly, there were so

many other animals there and lots of people surrounding

me so I was worried that I may be attacked or trodden

on. After a while, I managed to find a quiet place where I

had a delicious lunch of beetles and flies. They weren’t

quite as good as scorpions but close!

This is a great place but I wish I could show you around. It

is not the same without you all!

Your lonely family member

Sunny has been somewhere else in the world! Choose somewhere he has visited; it could be somewhere you have been before, somewhere you would like to go or even to your house!

There are some pictures and links below which may inspire you. Please ask an adult before watching any of the videos. You may just use your imagination and make up what Sunny may do at different places.

Pretending to be him, write a postcard to your parents. Include what you (Sunny) saw and what you did. Remember to use conjunctions and adjectives in your writing; there are some on the next page to help you.

Finding a half

For this activity we would like you to show us how you can find a half using items from around your house. You could split your toy cars into two equal groups, maybe share out some sweets with someone in your family into two equal groups or maybe cut your toast into two equal parts for your breakfast. Make sure you show or tell us how much half is.

If you are using Seesaw, take a photo or video showing this and maybe even record your voice explaining what you did. If not, you could show and explain this to a member of your family.
