Income inequality is a crical factor that prevents access to food. This is why
raising the wage to a living wage is a key component of FOCUS advocacy. This
past week FOCUS co-signed a leer from a state-wide group of faith communi-
es in support of raising the minimum wage and giving local authority to raise
the wage further. See a sample of the leer we signed onto here.
FOCUS advocates also parcipated in a statewide rally, “Capitol Takeover” onTuesday June 17th to push for a raise, indexing, local authority to raise the wage,
and protecon against wage the from employers.

our collecon and distribuon point in August. Volunteers will be needed on
Aug. 26-29 to sort donaons and distribute them to the children. To volunteer

Pantry Guests Garden at HomeSo far this season, the Gardening in a Bucket
Project has reached 50+ Interfaith Food Pan-
try Guests. Pepper and tomato plants have
been distributed to pantry guests– seniors,
adults & children, to take home and grow.Seeds and extra seedlings have also been
available for guests to take home with them.
Soon, Gardening in a Bucket will go on the
road to visit local schools and shelter. More
to come!

Bread Rising Conference
At Bread for the World’s 2014 Conference, a broad spectrum of church organi-
zaons and faith communies came together to advocate for key issues that
impact hungry people: foreign food aid and immigraon reforms. With an enthusiasc delegaon of 15 people from throughout New York State,
FOCUS headed to Capitol Hill and had a full day of legislave visits with sta of
Senator Schumer, Senator Gillibrand, and Congressman Tonko. Read more about the conference here!
June 29 – July 3 The City of lbany, Group Cares and First Presbyterian will help
426 campers from congregaons all over the country, do some good and very
needed work – and have a great me doing it! The youth will be doing home re-
pairs while staying at the Myers Middle School in Albany.
Each of the youth
groups coming to the camp are bringing a non-perishable food donaon to be
donated to the FOCUS Interfaith Food Pantry.
