I am pleased to know that our Electrical and Electronics

Department students are once again successful in bringing the magazine

“e-Techno Track” for this academic year 2016-17. Our EEE students have

established a joint to venture, in bringing out a technical magazine with

their contributions. I express my compliments to the secretary, the editors

and their dedicated committee for their valuable efforts in bringing out this

issue. I wish them all triumph!

It is indeed a happy moment for our Electrical and Electronics

Department as the students have successfully brought out the Magazine “e-

Techno Track” for the year 2016-17. The most important aspect we could

derive from this stupendous effort is that it brings out the various technical

and analytical skills of the budding engineers. I wish them all the very best

for releasing more such magazine inn future.

It is a noble task on the part of the Department of Electrical and

Electronics Engineering to make it with their frequent issue “e-Techno

Track”. I wish that this magazine establishes to be a flint to fire the

enthusiasm and excite their minds for many intrusive innovations among

the students and inspire passion among the members of the faculty of

Electrical and Electronics committee. My greeting to the editorial board to

keep the good work.

1. Ander Marie Ampere

Lived 1775- 1836

Ander Marie Ampere was born on Andre-Marie Ampère was born on 20 January 1775 to Jean-Jacques Ampère, a prosperous businessman, and Jeanne Antoinette Desutières-Sarcey Ampère, during the height of the French Enlightenment. He spent his childhood and adolescence at the family property at Poleymieux-au-Mont-d'Or near Lyon. Jean-Jacques Ampère, a successful merchant, was an admirer of the philosophy of Jean-Jacques Rousseau, whose theories of education (as outlined in his treatise Emile) were the basis of Ampere's education.

Teaching Career

In 1819 and 1820 Ampère offered courses in philosophy and astronomy, respectively, at the University of Paris, and in 1824 he was elected to the prestigious chair in experimental physics at the College de France. In 1814 Ampère was invited to join the class of mathematicians in the new Institut

Imperial, the umbrella under which the reformed state Academy of Sciences would sit.

Ampere engaged in a diverse array of scientific inquiries during the years leading up to his election to the academy—writing papers and engaging in topics from mathematics and philosophy to chemistry and astronomy, which was customary among the leading scientific intellectuals of the day. Ampère claimed that "at eighteen years he found three culminating points in his life, his First Communion, the reading of Antoine Leonard Thomas's "Eulogy of Descartes", and the Taking of the Bastille.

Work in Electromagnetism

He applied mathematics in generalizing physical laws from these experimental results. The most important of these was the principle that came to be called Ampere's law, which states that the mutual action of two lengths of current-carrying wire is proportional to their lengths and to the intensities of their currents.

Ampere also applied this same principle to magnetism, showing the harmony between his law and French physicist Charles Augustin de Coulomb's law of magnetic action. Ampère's devotion to, and skill with, experimental techniques anchored his science within the emerging fields of experimental physics.

Ampere also provided a physical understanding of the electromagnetic relationship, theorizing the existence of an "electrodynamic molecule" (the forerunner of the idea of the electron) that served as the component element of both electricity and magnetism. In 1827 Ampère was elected a Foreign Member of the Royal Society and in 1828, a foreign member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Science.

Legacy

In recognition of his contribution to the creation of modern electrical science, an international convention, signed at the 1881 International Exposition of Electricity, established the ampere as a standard unit of electrical measurement, along with the coulomb, volt, ohm, and watt, which are named, respectively, after Ampère's contemporaries Charles-Augustin de Coulomb of France, Alessandro Volta of Italy, Georg Ohm of Germany, and James Watt of Scotland. Ampère's name is one of the 72 names inscribed on the Eiffel Tower.

Several items are named after Ampère; many streets and squares, schools, a Lyon metro station, and an electric ferry in Norway.

2. Leon Charles Thevenin

Lived 1857 - 1926

Leon-Charles Thevenin, was a French telegraph engineer and educator. He

was the one to propose the equivalent generator theorem in 1883, 43 years before Norton's complementary theorem. The theorem is commonly called Thevenin's Theorem in his honor, but, in fact Hermann Von Helmholtz proposed it first in an 1853 paper.

Thevenin graduated from the École Polytechnique in 1876 and became one of the first students to enroll in the École Superieure de Telegraphie (EST) to be prepared for a career in the Government owned telegraph service. In the two-year program at the EST, he was introduced to Gustav Kirchhoff's laws of circuit analysis. His duties included administrative and educational activities. Thevenin devoted a considerable portion of his time to teaching, for which he had a liking. In connection with his teaching, he undertook an investigation of Kirchhoff's laws as applied to electric networks. This study resulted in his formulation of the equivalent generator theorem.

He was a talented violin player. Another favorite pastime of his was angling. He remained single but shared his home with a widowed cousin of his mother's and her two children whom he later adopted.

Thévenin consulted several scholars well known at that time, and controversy arose as to whether his law was consistent with the facts or not.

Shortly before his death he was visited by a friend of his, J. B. Pomey, and was surprised to hear that his theorem had been accepted all over the world.

In 1926, he was taken to Paris for treatment. He left a formal request that no one should accompany him to the cemetery except his family and that nothing be placed on his coffin but a rose from his garden. This is how he was buried at Meaux. Thévenin is remembered as a model engineer and employee, hard-working, of scrupulous morality, strict in his principles but kind at heart.

1. PRODUCTION OF ELECTRICITY FROM ARTIFICIAL NANO TREES The energy harvesting trees are super eco-friendly synthetic trees will make use of renewable energy from

the sun along with wind power, which are an effective clean and environmentally sound medium of

gathering solar radiation and wind energy. The artificial trees are implanted with Nano leaves, a composite

of nano-photovoltaic nano-thermo voltaic and nano-piezovoltaic sources transforming light, heat and wind

energy into eco-friendly electricity.

The Nano leaves transform the whole solar scale converting detectable light, infrared and Ultraviolet in a

unification with piezo-electric generators that alter wind energy into electricity giving you efficient, cost

efficient and attractive looking

solutions, whilst providing the greatest

electric power. The world is reeling

under the severe shortage of reliable and

efficient energy resources. The

profitable energy resources used to

generate electricity so far, ‘fossil fuels’

are extinguished and also effecting the

environment, thus the greenhouse effect

and the global warming phenomenon

that we keep hearing about are the

repercussions. Thus, there is an

immediate call to switch over to a better,

eco-friendly, affluent energy resource

i.e., ‘the Renewable Sources. It

eliminates the problems faced by a

traditional solar panel fields, i.e., non-

availability of solar energy during

cloudy or rainy days and during

nightfall. In case of Solar Botanic Trees,

The more the wind is, the more Nano-leaves are moved. Wind that is moving thousands of Nano leaves in

a tree canopy are causing mechanical strain in the petiole, twigs and branches. Nano piezo-electric elements

incorporated in the petiole twigs and branches are the tiny Nano piezoelectric elements that will generate

millions and millions of Pico watts as these thousands of Nano leaves flap back and forth due to wind. The

stronger the wind, the higher the "flap" frequency, and therefore the larger the watts generated in the petiole,

twigs and branches. Similar is the case of energy during rainfall, the mechanical vibrations in these tiny

generators produce electricity from movement or kinetic energy caused by wind or falling raindrops.

2. New Paper Batteries Powered by Blood

Sheets of paper can be made to work like batteries and power electronics, research now reveals. The paper

sheets could even get power from sweat or blood and, in the future, energize devices implanted within

people, scientists said.

“When we get this technology down, we'll basically have the ability to print batteries and print

supercapacitors," said researcher Pulickel Ajayan, a materials scientist at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

in New York. "We see this as a technology that’s just right for the current energy market, as well as the

electronics industry, which is always looking for smaller, lighter power sources."

To make the paper batteries, researchers first impregnated everyday paper sheets with carbon nanotubes,

pipes only nanometers or billionths of a meter wide—about the diameter of the DNA helix. These make the

paper black and help it to conduct electricity. When the scientists soaked electrolytes—salty compounds that

help supply the energy in batteries, in general—into the paper, they developed working batteries.

A battery the researchers made could power an LED light, the kind now

found in many flashlights. The scientists also created other kinds of energy

sources with the paper batteries, such as super capacitors, which currently

often find use in electric vehicles, helping them last longer on the road. The

paper batteries also worked with many different electrolytes, even

salty bodily fluids such as sweat and blood. The success of this finding

suggests many potential biological and medical applications. The devices

also can be stacked, like a ream of printer paper, to work together and thus

provide more total power output.

The papers are lightweight and flexible. They worked even if rolled, twisted, bent or cut, over a wide

range of temperatures, from "-100 degrees F to 350 degrees F, making them useful in both the Arctic and

Death Valley," researcher Robert Linhardt, a biopolymer expert at Rensselaer, told Live Science. The

researchers have not yet developed a way to inexpensively mass-produce the devices. They hope to print

the papers using a roll-to-roll system similar to how newspapers are printed.

The researchers are now investigating ways to boost the efficiency, reliability and safety of the

batteries and super capacitors, as well as different manufacturing techniques.
