Its a great event this year, and it will bringabout 8,000 people to thehistoric district, saidMary Ann McAlea withthe Folsom Chamber ofCommerce and the Fol-som Tourism Bureau.
Businesses like Hacien-da, Powerhouse Pub, andSutter Street Steakhousewill become show stageson Sept. 23 and 24, just intime to catch the finalwarm breezes of summer.
While McAleas favoritepart of Folsom Live is see-ing so many peopleenjoying two evenings ofentertainment in hercommunity, its the bandsthemselves that drawcrowds to ticket sellers crowds that are ready torock.
Big names are headlin-ing the event this year performers like EddieMoney on Friday andRonnie Milsap and LosLobos on Saturday.
But cover bands likeTainted Love and Stungwill possibly prove to beas thrilling as the headlin-ers bands that peoplecant help but dance to.
This year we have an
amazing blend everygenre is represented, fromcountry to alternative, torhythm and blues, bandsthat are well known local-

McAlea said bands areselected based on atten-dees input, and also onrouting schedules forentertainment.
Who is comingthrough the area (is partof it), she said.
While the events pro-ceeds will go, in part, to
the Chamber of Com-merce to help fund a vari-ety of educational pro-grams for businesses, alarge portion will go tothis years charity partner,Hope Productions Foun-dation.
Hope oversees over 20different charities thathelp children, McAleasaid. And the funds thatgo to the chamber willhelp promote businessinterests in the Folsomcommunity.
Hope has been a greatpartner and is helping puton the event this year.McAlea said that Hopestaff has experience inlarge-scale festivities, andgreat connections forentertainment events aswell.
We really wanted toelevate the level of enter-tainment this year,McAlea said.

Grammy-winning actscoming to town
BY DON CHADDOCK
TELEGRAPH MANAGING EDITOR
Performers such as LosLobos, Ronnie Milsap andEddie Money arent neces-
sarily names associated withthe area, but this years FolsomLive music festival is about tochange that perception.
Those acts, as well at 27 oth-ers, are taking the spotlightSept. 23-24 in Folsoms two-daymusic fest. Organizers areexpecting up to 8,000 people toattend over the two days.
Money, who had a strings ofhits in the late 1970s and mid-1980s, is known for such popu-lar songs as Two Tickets to Par-adise, Think Im in Love, and Take Me Home Tonight.
Money hasnt stopped tour-ing. His concert in historic Fol-som is booked between con-certs in Texas, Connecticut andNorth Carolina.
His most recent album is2007s Wanna Go Back. Heperforms at 9:20 p.m. Friday.
Milsap recently released anew album, Country Again, inwhich he returns to his countryroots. The singer has had 40 No.1 hits and sold more than 35
million records. To his credit healso has seven Grammy Awards, four Academy of Country MusicAwards and eight Music Associ-ation Awards.
I came to town to sing coun-try music, Milsap said in astatement. And when left to myown devices, around the house, its what I love to sing. It alldates back to my roots in NorthCarolina, and its in my blood.
Ive been very fortunate tohave had a lot of successfulrecords. Now its time tomake some more.
Born in the mountain town ofRobbinsville, NC, Milsap wasraised by his bluegrass-lovingfather and his grandparents inthe unincorporated MeadowBranch community in westernNorth Carolina. Each weekend, the struggling family gatheredaround a battery-powered radio
and tuned in to the Grand OleOpry on WSM, listening to Roy Acuff, Ernest Tubb and othergreats. He attended a school forthe blind in Raleigh, emergingwith enhanced musical knowl-edge and a love of rock, pop andother non-Appalachian formsof music, he said.
Milsap performs 8:45-10 p.m.Saturday, Sept. 24.

time Grammy winning LosLobos, probably best known fortheir hit La Bamba, used inthe 1987 hit film of the samename starring Lou DiamondPhillips as Ritchie Valens.
Los Lobos bandmates areLouie Perez on drums, guitars, percussion, vocals; Steve Berlinon saxophone, percussion, flute, midsax, harmonica, melodica; Cesar Rosas onvocals, guitar, mandolin; Con-rad Lozano on bass, guitarron, vocals; David Hidalgo onvocals, guitar, accordion, per-cussion, bass, keyboards, melodica, drums, violin, banjo;and Cougar Estrada on
drums/percussion.A rare example of longevity in
the music world, Los Loboslineup has remained uninter-rupted since 1984, when saxo-phonist/keyboardist SteveBerlin joined original membersPrez, Hidalgo, Rosas andLozano, each of whom hadbeen there since the beginningin 1973.
More than three decadeshave passed since Los Lobosreleased their first album, JustAnother Band from East L.A.
Los Lobos performs 7-8:30p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24.
This is the first year FolsomLive has garnered national acts.
The ultimate goal for FolsomLive is to develop a music festi-val that will be an economicdriver and showcase for thecity, said Mary Ann McAlea, with the Folsom TourismBureau and Chamber of Com-merce. We are a good host city
for events and people arealways looking for things to do.
She said getting headlinersthis year was a natural evolu-tion for the event.
In the growth strategy (forFolsom Live), the opportunityto bring headliners would grow
the event, she said. FolsomLive has always been aboutmusic.
She said reaction has beenpositive regarding the acts.
I think it tells people there is
a commitment to growing theevent, McAlea said. Gettingpeople (to attend) from theregion is huge. If they just driveby us on Highway 50, they dontknow what we have to offer.
Some changes to the layoutare also in store. The mainstage, usually located at the rail-road turntable, will be moved tothe Traders Lane parking lot.
Dianne Rogers, with thechamber of commerce, said
Folsom Live is one of the orga-nizations biggest events.
Folsom Live and the FolsomPro Rodeo are the two biggestfundraisers of the year, Rogerssaid.
In all, 30 bands are scheduledto perform on 10 stages over thetwo-night event.

While overused, thequote provides an aptdescription for what hap-pens at Hope ProductionsFoundation. Hope Pro-

The foundation wasstarted in 2008 by twolocal business men in thearea who knew that non-profit organizations need-

Hope serves non-prof-its, primarily those thatconcentrate on children, whether its advocacy, artsor education, at-risk kids, illness and research, orother aspects that mightaffect youth.
We help the non-profit
become more sustain-able, Gabelich said. Wehelp the charities withbusiness development, fund raising training and
strategic planning. Wealso have a CEO leader-ship training program.
With a small, hands-onstaff, Hope assists non-profits in Sacramento, ElDorado and surroundingcounties. Working withseven non-profit partnersin an intensive three-yeartraining program thatinclude monthly meet-ings, leadership develop-
ment and fundraisingsupport are just some ofthe facets focused on byHope. The non-profit alsohas 15 non-profit affiliatesthat receive fundraisingsupport and abbreviatedtraining. Hopes program-ming is like a stepladderfor non-profits in theirgoal to be sustainable.
The scope of charities in
which Hope partners are wide and varied. TheKeaton Raphael Memorial,an organization that helpskids with cancer, and theirfamilies; People ReachingOut, a drug-free advocacyprogram that mentors stu-dents in five Sacramentoarea school districts; and Wind Youth Services, which assists youths find-ing a way out of homeless-
ness, are just a few of theimportant charities thatHope trains and supports.
Hope carefully selectstheir partner organiza-

Gabelich is thrilled topartner with the FolsomChamber of Commercethis year with Folsom Live

Mary Ann McAlea, withthe chamber and Folsom
