Erindale Farm has been putting lamb and beef

on local plates for 150 years. Brian knows he can

trust five generations of experience to hand-pick

just the right stock for that mouthwatering experience.

Erindale opened two retail outlets in Bendigo after

friends and family raved so much about the taste - they

say once youve tried it youre a customer for life. Brian is

proud of his top quality tender meat full of flavour, with no

antibiotics, steroids or growth promotants. So what are you

    having for dinner tonight?

Bress Wine, Cider and Produce is the product of Adams love of traditional French bred poultry,

combined with his years of experience in viticulture and winemaking. He is passionate about sustainability and has

transformed the property into a biodynamic farm.

Adam loves sharing his passion for wine and biodynamics with visitors and re-creates the menu each week, attuned to whats

in season. He is delighted with Bress James Halliday 5 star rating and inclusion in The Age Good Food Guide 2010 and 2011.

At The Good Loaf Bakery and Caf you will be in awe of the sensory heaven full of wholesome goodies Cheryl and Laurie have created. After twenty years of friendship, they have given Bendigo the one thing it was always missing - a good sourdough loaf.

Its not all about food though - The Good Loaf recently installed an electric vehicle recharging point and diligently recycles as much waste as possible. Life for Cheryl and Laurie is now wholeheartedly focused on pouring their passion and creativity into delighting their customers, every day.

... and some More Food Heroes

When Brent took over the Whirrakee Restaurant in 2007, his goal was to bring a contemporary French style to Bendigos dining scene.

He and his team fulfill this passion every day, and extensively incorporate local, fresh produce into their impressive menu.

Brent is proud that the Whirrakee is the first Bendigo establishment in over a decade to be awarded a coveted Chefs Hat by Victorias highly respected The Age Good Food Guide 2011.

The Dispensary Enoteca was inspired by the Melbourne eateries Tim and wife, Anita loved to frequent. Tims approach is holistic - along with his local food writing, he finds

The Dispensary Enoteca the perfect way to raise awareness about local produce, which

is the focus of his contemporary menu.

Tim is proud that The Dispensary Enoteca is the only Bendigo restaurant to be reviewed, rated

and recommended by both The Age Good Food Guide and The Gourmet Traveller Australian

Restaurant Guide - two years in a row!

...90 Minutes/100 Food Miles from Melbourne

Rumbly tummies travel V/Line to reduce carbon emissions

To assist you with your food fossicking journey, weve separated the region surrounding Bendigo into four parts within a 70km radius. Each of these regions has its own unique and distinctive microclimate, culture and local characters.

  • Fringe Fossicking for Food gold

The goldrush of 150 years ago not only attracted thousands of miners, but also families and business people with a huge range of culturally rich personalities, traditions and cuisines.

Our Mediterranean climate and fertile soils are the perfect combination for producing abundant food and wine.

These pioneers of our rich food and produce industry have left us a legacy we must continue to build upon to ensure its sustainability.

Over the years, food producers have refined their traditions and methods to adapt to soils once strewn with gold, transforming them to the fertile soils which thrive today.

The end result is central Victorias prosperous local food and produce industry. We call it food gold.

    34

Northern central Victoria is synonymous for its stone fruits, grapes, apples, pears, tomatoes and lettuces. As part of the Murray Darling Basin - one of Australias largest agricultural hubs - grain, rice, livestock and dairy production is prominent. Tatura, for example, is famous for its fine quality cheese, milk and butter. Shepparton and surrounds is home to many Middle-Eastern and European families, giving the regions produce a distinctively culturally diverse flavour.

    THE NORTHERN REGION

Kristy loves that she can give her kids a wonderful childhood at Keans Eggs, the family egg farm, while incorporating work and family.

We stock a range of smoked meats and fish from the exotic to the everyday - kangaroo, ostrich, emu, chicken, trout and more. Our smallgoods which include bullboars, saveloys and ham on the bone are made using family recipes dating back to the 1950s.

Special thanks... to the Food Fossickers Committee for their generous contribution to this project.

The Balgownie philosophy has always maintained that the wine is made in the vineyard. Situated approximately 10 minutes from the Bendigo CBD, the 33 hectare vineyard is made up of several varieties - Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Pinot Noir, Merlot and Chardonnay.

Visitors who tour our Cellar Door are encouraged to taste an impressive selection of Balgownie Estate award winning wines.

Enjoy lunch in our smart cafe using regional produce, complementing and influencing the style of meals and contributing to simple but flavoursome dishes.
