showing a short slide show of pictures celebrating the 90th
birthday of Queen Elizabeth II.
Please be aware that there is no First Aider on duty at this
Meeting. In line withNational U3A guidelines in the
event of a problem we will immediately contact the
emergency services.

In future there will be no break after the notices but we will pass straight on to
the speaker
Our new membership year begins on 1st May 2016 and ends on 30th April 2017.
If you have not renewed your membership, you can do so at this meeting or by post to the Membership Secretary, c/o
Beeston Methodist Church, Chilwell Road. Stamped self addressed envelope required.
As promised earlier in the year our membership fee for the next U3A year will be £15 and this can be paid either by cash
or cheque which should be made out to Beeston U3A. If you have any alteration to your Gift Aid status could you
contact Margot Gale at [email protected] or inform her by post or at the open meeting.
Note: You won't be able to vote at the AGM unless your membership has been renewed.
Membership Renewal
Please let your Group Leader Know:
1. If you no longer wish to attend a Group. This will allow new members
to join a Group with a waiting list.
2. If you have a reason why you can’t get to Group meetings but still
wish to be a member. Four non-notified absences in a row will result
in your name being removed from that group and the place open to
someone else.

This is essential for us to communicate easily with you.

Coffee at Group MeetingsIf you use the church’s coffee and tea facilities at a Group Meeting, please
remember you need to pay a contribution of 30p per cup per
person towards the church’s expenses .
The coffee and tea is not free.
An Occasion to Celebrate with an Afternoon Tea
20 May at CRMC at 3.00pm – 4.30pmTickets, at £5.00 per member, (first come,
first served) will be on sale at Open Meetings.

Art HistoryArt History is running a trip to Florence from
Saturday 12th - Wednesday 15th March 2017.The cost is £835.00 per person (costs are based on
two people sharing a twin room, single supplements apply) and this includes transport to and from the
airport, return flights to Pisa, return coach transport to Florence, a central hotel, 2 dinners, a full art
programme including tickets to the Uffizi gallery and the services of an art lecturer.

Bowls GroupBowl sessions are arranged for all Fridays at 12.30pm lasting 2 hours - all members welcome.Numbers are gradually increasing and we had 8 persons attending which meant we had 2 lanes open.However, the other 2 sessions on Monday at 12.30 and Thursday at 2.30 are booked, and also available to those who indicated that they preferred these dates. Just turn up to any one or more sessions – you will be welcome, and they are completely for our members.

Garden Visits Group Holiday to Wales Festival of Voice 1000 at St Davids Hall, Cardiff. Saturday 4th
June. Tickets maximum price £25. Over 300 voices will be supplied by Only Men Aloud, Only Boys Aloud and the 2016
Principality Only Boys Aloud Academi as they join forces with three of Wales finest male choirs. They will be accompanied
by Sinfonia Cymru. IF INTERESTED PLEASE CONTACT SANDRA IMMEDIATELY OR
RING 9285031. As the performance commences at 7pm the Hotel will provide
sandwiches to replace the evening meal. Transport will be provided to and from the venue.
Note: The Hemlock Garden Club trip to York flower festival at Castle Howard will now be on Sunday 26th June.

What the Papers Say
The meeting scheduled for Friday May 20th
has been cancelled to allow members to attend the Beeston U3A Anniversary tea.
IT LearningCentral College are keen to link our members with
some of their IT students to establish a kind of Silver Surfers arrangement, where members can get one to
one help with PC. Tablets and mobile phones. It is envisaged that the sessions will take place weekly
during term time. Response has been disappointing so far. If you are
interested, please contact Steve Austin via [email protected] as soon as possible or this may not be viable. Include brief details of your needs, ie PC, Tablet or phone, and what you need help with.
'Readers Rendezvous’ This is the name of Beeston U3As new book group, which is now ready for new members. We plan to meet on the 3rd
Thursday of the month, 2 – 3pm, at the White Lion, Beeston. Our first meeting will be on Thursday May 19th, when we will
plan the books for the coming months, linking with the library, and hope to discuss ‘The Taxidermist’s Wife’, by Kate Mosse. This is currently on offer in Tesco as one of their ‘2
books for £7’ offers!There will be no meeting in June, but we’ll meet monthly
starting July 21st.To find out more or to let me know if you plan to come please

Conversational French and German for Beginners
Guten Tag and Bonjour! There is a good deal of interest within our members in languages. We already have French
and German Groups which are now well established. It’s always rewarding when visiting other countries to be able to
speak the language. If you are interested in “Parlering un peuFrancais” or “Sprechening” a little Deutsch and have fun

Aimed at walking and talking at a relaxed pace over shorter distances than the established
walking groups we have. Walking is the best exercise so if you can’t do the mileage but enjoy a stroll and a natter, then this group is for you.
