The Great Thanksgiving... All baptized, believing Christians are welcome to the Lord’s Table. Come forward down the center aisle, pick up a glass and follow the directions of the ushers. Glasses of grape juice are available in the center of the tray. Gluten free wafers are available. If you are unable to come to the altar, please inform an usher so that the Eucharist may be brought to you.

Our readings during November speak of the end times. Zephaniah proclaims that the coming day of the Lord will be filled with wrath and distress. Paul says it will come like a thief in the night and urges us to be awake and sober.

Jesus tells the parable of the talents, calling us to use our gifts, while we still have time, for the greater and common good. In a world filled with violence and despair, we gather around signs of hope—word, water, bread and wine—eager to welcome the good news of Christ’s coming among us.

Thanksgiving Eve Service at St. Paul’s

Wednesday, November 22

7:30 PM

Candle Decorating Thursday, November 30

1:00 pm & 7:00 pm Hearth Room

This has been a tradition since Donald Schupp was our pastor at St. Paul’s. It’s a Moravian tradition. Each color on the candles represents a church season. The “tutus” are made out of colored tissue. Each “tutu” is precisely cut by hand. It’s a reverent tradition held by many of our long-time members, especially when we sing “Silent Night” on Christmas Eve.

This is a true labor of LOVE!

This event is not just for the ladies—men and families are welcome! If you have questions, please contact Joy Lynch.

Seasons Greetings! In the spirit of the season, we are once again instituting our annual Giving Tree! Last year, our effort was a tremendous success, and we were able to provide 160 gifts for families in

need. We would greatly appreciate your cooperation again to help to bring smiles to the faces of children in the local community.

Starting at the Saturday evening service on November 18, you will be able to pick a snowman off our tree located in the Narthex. Each child will have 6 snowmen associated with them and will contain specific information (toy request, clothing size, etc.). You may pick one or more of any of the snowmen.

Please be sure to write your name and phone number associated with the corresponding tag(s) on the nearby table. Return the snowman with the unwrapped gift and place under the tree. All gifts should be sent in unwrapped, with the snowman attached to the gift on or before noon on Sunday, December 10!!

If you are unable to shop, or are planning to shop at a certain store, you can purchase gift cards through the church fundraiser.

If you are purchasing a gift card, there is a box to deposit the gift cards in the church office on Rosanne’s desk for your convenience.

Donations of holiday wrapping paper, gift bags, tissue paper, and sticker gift labels/tags would be very much appreciated!

Thank you for all your support! Merry Christmas!

For more information contact Sandy Sambucci at [email protected]

Please remove all seasonal decorations from the cemetery by November 30. Thank you.

Looking Ahead to Advent

Continuing our anniversary theme, our Advent devotional booklet this year is an updated version of the Advent booklet prepared by the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Women in 1962! It has book recommendations (all the best sellers of 1962), Christmas record suggestions (kids – be sure to ask your parents what a “record” is!) and it even refers to the use of “transparencies” to decorate windows and doors.

Back in 1962, the use of decals was a big fad, but when a decal is removed, it cannot be reused. We have purchased several packets of Christmas window clings, which are held onto the glass by static pressure, and can be reused for the years to come. Each packet of four sheets of Nativity related images is $8.00 dollars. (No Santas – just Nativity scenes.)

The devotional booklet is free of charge, but if you would like a package of window clings, please contact the office and we will see that you get them!
